Ambience and friendly atmosphere. We had the top room which was beautifully appointed but retained the atmosphere of the local pub.lovely to see dogs welcome.
No tissues in the bedroom.
Really lovely, very popular village pub. We were made to feel very welcome, together with our dog. Delicious large portioned meals. Generous sized room and huge bathroom with roll top bath in the roof of the pub, with good views both back and front.
Amazing food, good atmosphere! Recommend to all.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food / creative cooking. Beautiful location in Southern Lake District.
Atmosphere Friendliness Room & Views
AWFUL smell on the stairwell leading from the bar/restaurant to our room.
Excellence all round - welcome, food, beer ( Hare of the Dog particularly good ), service and hospitality. Genuinely dog-friendly - a couple of the more recently renovated bedrooms don't allow dogs which is fair enough. If you are staying you have a table for dinner reserved for you automatically which is a blessing as it gets really busy early evening. It worked well for us to eat a bit later as there was just a bit less pressure on the kitchen. You need to save yourself for breakfast though - just perfect for a day's walking!
Room was small but nicely furnished and adequate for 1 night
There was some kind of compressor running on and off all night - very noisy. Husband's food was good (steak and ale pie) but mine was dry and tasteless (lamb shank)
It was very quiet and the food was excellent
The dog smell when one entered, but no problem upstairs.
Friendly and Efficient staff, Excellent food, especially the "Breakfast". Very reasonably priced drinks. Quiet location. Comfy room, no hassle car parking.
the decor and food are very good
no private outdoor seating for guests, no chairs or sofa in our room despite it being "superior"
the welcome, the friendliness, the room, the staff, the food. The whole experience.
Amazingly thorroughly renovated old pub with suites. Big room with a gorgeous bathroom. Extremely clean, stylish and authenticly made pub and restaurant. Gives you the perfect feeling of staying in an old remote inn but with all the modern comfort. We enjoied it very much and would go there again any time.
Fanastic Location and amazing food, especially the Sticky toffee pudding.
everything. Lovely location, beautiful room, very clean and very friendly staff. Will definetely return.
Welcome by bar staff on arrival; reserved table in the bar and quality of food. large bathroom
perhaps think about storing spare bedding outside an actual guest room as when hotel guests needed non-feather bedding , we were disturbed around 10pm.
staff were friendly breakfast was good
no bar fridge no tissues
Lovely room, staff friendly, very informal setting and very relaxing.
The owner (Kerry) and all her staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent - every meal that we had was superb (hold on to that chef [Adam] Kerry!!!!!). The room we were allocated was lovely, and Kerry gave us an upgrade for the last two days of our visit, which was an even better room - spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Thank you Kerry and all your lovely staff.
Country pub with an excellent atmosphere in a quiet location. Food and Ale was first rate. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Locals were very chatty in the bar.
Room we were in was a little cramped although the bathroom was fine. Having said that it is probably no more than one could expect in a building of this age.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Some of the food was very good and my wife particularly liked the pork and scallops.
When we booked dinner we were told we would be sitting at a table away from the bar area but when we came for dinner we were seated in the bar right by the entrance so spent much of the meal staring at people backsides who were waiting in the bar area to be seated. The food which was the main reason for visiting was not as good as expected. Whilst some elements were very good others were not. For example if something is on the menu as being served with sourdough bread you would not expect it to arrive with a couple of triangles of fried bread dripping oil. In addition if you do not like seafood or cheese there is a very narrow choice.
Pub food was very good as was breakfast.
Overcharged for bar drinks and food considerably. When pointed out they did refund and apologise.
Traditional inn hospitality with warm and natural welcome and a great breakfast
Friendly staff,excellent location. Superb
There was nothing to dislike
