Tasteful elegant room design. The main building - lobby and dinner bar areas, and its facade all very attractive. Having to walk outside the building and back in through the main entrance to get to breakfast. Not rude but uninspired staff. Not welcoming. Over-priced by 50% at least.

Nice old cotswold type hotel taht has been maintained well.in lovely countryside, but also convenint for towns. RESTAURANT STAFF EXCELLENT,SERVING WITH HUMOUR AND EXPERTISE. FOOD VERY GOOD PORTER ON THE DAY 6TH SEPT A LIFE SAVER FOR US AND VERY HELPFUL AND PLEASANT.HELPING CALM DOWN INITIAL VERY BAD ARRIVAL EXPERIENCE. On arrival in pouring rain could not park and indeed told we could not park in an area by a car salesman who was working for a company showing its wares!! WE WERE FORCED TO CIRCLE THE HOTEL A NUMBER OF TIMES AND FINALLY SIT IN THE CAR DUE TO THE RAIN.A NUMBER OF OTHER GUESTS SUFFERED THE SAME TREATMENT! ON FINALLY GETTING TO RECEPTION A MISERABLE RECEPTIONIST GOT INTO A DISCUSSION ABOUT MY DINNER RESERVATION WHICH I REQUIRED CHANGING DUE TO MY GUEST ARRIVING EARLIER.AFTER ALMOST WALKING OUT DUE TO THE PARKING AND THIS GREETING.THE PORTER ARRIVED CALMED THE WHOLE THING AND SHOWED ME TO THE ROOM IN A PLEASANT AND PROFESSIONAL WAY

Travelling with my daughter and 4 years grand daughter we immediately felt at home - the staff were charming and had a caring attitude to their guests - our room in one of the cottages was very comfortable, well- designed with bedroom separated from bathroom by a dressing area - very clean and calm to the senses in the honeyed coloured mix of traditional and modern. The bathroom was spacious and modern with a large walk in shower and bath. Molten brown toiletries were welcome as were the little touches of johnsons baby bath and yellow duck! Food was excellent - the lounge areas were very comfortable - A fair few 'verys' here!! I stay in a lot of hotels for work and few come up to the mix of comfort, calm and excellent but unobtrusive service we found here - one small detail - the radiator in the bathroom was on - warm towels - essential in the UK summer :) and so thoughtful - The food was very good taste wise but portions at dinner were tiny - nouvelle cuisine style which is a bit passé - my leek terrine starter with walnuts and apple was a 4cm side triangle with 3 tiny walnuts and 2 tiny apple balls - expectations from menu description were disappointed - on their side were the amuse bouche and sorbet 'additions' which meant in all we wern't hungry - but we are 2 women careful with our diets!! For the bigger appetite it would have been a mere snack - the side of veg consisted of 4 small potatoes and 2 of minature carrots, leek and celery - felt a bit ripped off - and the wine was expensive too - a real shame in an otherwise good experience -

Friendly staff, comfortable room, the grounds, peace and quiet. The pub Jack Hare's is ideal for more informal dining. Large group bookings.

The Hotel is in a fabulous location in Westonbirt, situated in beautiful grounds. The staff are second to none really excellent, the breakfast we had was first class and quality of food prepared to a very high standard The annexe cottage style accommodation was spacious and well specified, however the whining noisy heater system in the Holly Room kept us up all night as it was so noisy we basically sat up waiting for day light until we could leave, I think if the weather had not been so icy and very poor we would have not stayed, We mentioned this to the reception who deducted £20 off our bill. This we thought was very poor our nights comfort meant a lot more to us that £20. Particularly as our room was over £200 for the night so very disappointing and our comfort was the reason we chose the Hare and Hounds after attending a friends wedding in Tetbury. If this problem was not there we would recommend Hare and Hounds.

Very homely and comfortable The attentiveness of the staff was very poor. I was given a wine list at lunch and no one followed up for an order. I had to ask twice for me to place my order

The staff were excellent and very helpful, Our superior bedroom was a decent size and the large or twin bed was very comfortable. It was a short walk from the main building, you would need an umbrella on wet days. The bathroom was a good size with a small separate shower with a large fixed shower head, so to avoid a cold shower you had to stand outside until the water reached your chosen temperature. The elegant restaurant was exceptional, they tried very hard to get it right and succeeded. The wine list was quite good. We would highly recommend this hotel when visiting the arboretum and the Cotswolds. It is also dog friendly in a standard room

The building itself is terrific ,and the grounds and facilities are very well looked after, and kept in order. The evening meal we did have ,was at best very mediocre, veg overcooked and not seasoned correctly . The dish which was supposed to have blue cheese for instance ,had none at all . The waiting and bar staff ,although effient , were to say the least like robots .with flat batteries. . no smiles ,no knowledge of the food ,and miserable . and unable to speak english very well .

The hotel lived up to its rating as a 4* hotel. The staff were helpful without being obtrusive. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel was chosen because of its proximity to Westonbirt Arboretum and the Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge. In this regard it was perfect.

“The staff was courteous and very attentive, especially the front desk staff, Emma and Maria who helped me with a near disaster situation--the loss of my luggage containing passports, etc. They also arranged a stay at another hotel for me as they had no vacancies when I decided to extend my stay in Tetbury. They deserve very high marks for their service.” James, Washington, Dc |
