This place is disgusting. I had (had being the operative word) a family sized room booked here for two nights. I arrived, and found a building that is in serious need of maintenance. On some of the windows the frames are so rotted you can almost see straight through them. The building general appearance is shabby and run down. I have seen better places knocked down. No wonder they use night time pictures, hides everything. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and checked in. The hotel reception is a small area at one side of the bar. The lady was helpful and polite, and directed me to room number one, which was up a flight of stairs through the restaurant. So you need to walk past the diners with your bags, not great. What can I saw about the room, £73 a night for a room that was beyond belief. Peeling wallpaper, a carpet worn through in places and clearly hadn’t been hoovered that day let alone that week, covered in fluff, outdoor debris, and generally filthy. The floor boards were all clearly visible under the thin carpet and every single on creaked. The bed was a worn out mattress with a topper and sheet over it, the bed itself looked like something that could be found in a skip as was the rest of the furniture in the room. Also the room smelt like an old house that hadnt been lived in for years. Do not believe the pictures on their own website, old and full of history? Old and decrepit more like.
I went back down stairs, put my bags back in the car, went back to reception and told them that I was not paying to stay there and left, no argument from the receptionist.
The owners of this hotel need to take a serious look at both it and themselves, how can they charge so much for a place most backpackers wouldn’t stay in?
