We were met by Annie who was friendly and helpful. The rooms were small and very basic, but as we only needed a base for 2 nights the property was adequate. Annie only works for the owner so isnt on site all the time, but whenever we saw her she was pleasant, chatty and willing to help.

The staff was absolutely great, very tasty breakfast and the seaside atmosphere has created very nice feelings. Room was a little small however it didn't cause us any trouble and staff really tried to find a solution for us.

the friendliness of the staff and the fact that i was a minute away from the beach The room was small and they didn't provide shampoo or bathing gel. Besides, the tv was placed too high that it was annoying for the neck to watch it.

Convenient location. Wi-fi facilities did not work. Drafty room. Tacky decor. Manager tried to blame my iPhone for the wi-fi not working. Poor customer service.

No commendable comments to make I'm afraid. Very disappointing, we booked for two nights but stayed only the one and found alternative accommodation for the second night. Room was very, very poor, noisy with gaps in the window frame making for an uncomfortable night. Welcome was poor, and while breakfast advertised from 8am was told we could not eat at that time because they were 'busy'. After a sleepless night we were offered breakfast by another, more sympathetic, member of staff but the situation was beyond retrieval by that time. I would not recommend this to my worse enemies I'm afraid.

The place was right on the seafront, easy enough to get to via the 26 bus and reasonably priced. Tv in the room, good shower and ensuite bathroom. Lovely seaside place to stay. The staff were a little abrupt, not exactly rude however. Breakfast could have carried on until a little later and was limited to toast and cereal. The room was quite loud when people were walking past due to thin doors.

This hotel is dishevelled. The single room was very small indeed, with mismatched furniture and no hot water. The cold water from the tap was disgusting, even when boiled for tea. Lavatory was two doors away and bathroom was up two flights of stairs.

The view of the Ocean was nice The smell (incense or cleaning products), we only saw our host 1 time when he took our money, the bathroom was a closet, they vaccummed our room but didn't give us clean towels, the decor was gaudy and it was the most expensive place we stayed. It was also a 30 minute bus ride into the city.

We had a great stay at the Portobello Guest House. The people were really friendly and easy going. We had a nice breakfast and chat in the morning. Then 20-25 minutes by bus to the city centre. And back a walk on the beach and a pleassant drink in the pub nearby. Really a place to recommend if you want to visit Edingburgh and enjoy a stroll on the beach!
