    - very suitable for family (we were 2 adults + 4 children) - location - breakfast room with balcony - very nice staff - friendly atmosphere - interesting former industrial building

    - room in the basement a bit "wet" but ok.

Good breakfast and 24 hours tea/coffee provision.

Long time guest behaving like headmaster in the common room, e.g. while watching TV.

I liked the considerable effort to take advantage of such a large space. The staff were generally friendly and accomodating.

The lack of perceived management and the inflexibility of the booking system and the uneven pricing and quality of the rooms.

It was the second time in a hostel in birmingham. This time had a much better xperience. The room size was good and was en suite with the best shower ive had. Facilities were good and even had a small entertainment programne on. Well worth going there and will return.

The only moan i have is a very squeaky bed seems to be part and parcel for hostel life.

I stayed at Hatters over night as I had work in Birmingham early on a Sunday and there were no trains early enough. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Walking through the building it looked really interesting with lots of cute cubbyholes for reading but I didn't have much time to explore. Having stayed in a few hostels before I was expecting the basics but was really surprised and happy at what I got. I stayed in a single room as my stay was for work. It was so clean and the bathroom was amazing. Seriously better than most hotels very modern and most importantly clean. There was a tv in the room which was great, no paying for a remote like I've had to in other places, and I even got a bottle of water and a biscuit. The room was small as to be expected and the bed was a single but again spotless. I had a brilliant night sleep and didn't notice any noise. Breakfast was better than expected lots of options and the breakfast room was lovely. The kitchen area was also very clean and big enough so I didn't have to wait to wash up. Staff were again very friendly when I left.

I'm hard pushed to find anything I didn't like. I suppose the window in the room was small but to be honest I've stayed in places where I didn't get a window and paid more. I was really sad that I couldn't stay the next Sunday too as it was fully booked.

Option of single rooms and quiet area if you are travelling for study or business was great. self service breakfast, constant availability of tea and coffee was good. So much nicer than staying in a souless budget B and B or Hotel.

Located in walking distance to most things

Terrible rooms, had a funny smell. Shower arrangement in mixed dorm rooms totally unacceptable (no locked door just a flimsy curtain). Did not feel safe walking in area at night.

    Staff at desk very helpful

Noisy people coming back at 5am etc should not be encouraged to come back. Not fair if like me you are up early for work.

Good clean beds good mattress. Ensuite per shared room. Large communal areas

Windows don't open so very stuffy. The layout of breakfast is awkward and would benefit a move around. Only one toaster .

Staff as ever very good at their job

Large groups of single sexes should be discouraged??? As they can be very noisy at times.

Our room was clean and we had our own bathroom. My 3 grown children and I needed a place for 1 night. We walked to get there, its about a 15 minute walk from the train station in a sketchy part of town.

The windows did not open. We were there in summer, it was extremely hot and stuffy in our room. I was glad we only stayed 1 night. The room was very small and had 2 sets of bunks.

Everything is clean and tidy here. The staff is very polite and willing to help. The breakfast is nice with various choices. If there are Hatters in other places, we would choose Hatters again.
