Score from 161 reviews Superb
restaurant shut before I arrive so I had zantac for dinner
The room was perfect - the bed, hot tub and room service were especially great.
There were rarely any members of staff in the bar area.
good value for money
Bathroom could have done with a paint job but the Jacuzi bath was lovely. Restaurant staff pleasnt but slow - spent alot of time out of site chatting in the kitchen
Room was large and not expensive.
Started with having to bang on the window to get in (at 18:00 in the evening) and went downhill. The meal was very average and overpriced. The waiting staff seemed to be trying to ignore me - possibly one of the hazards of being a solo diner. The wifi was very poor in my room. The heating control for the shower was broken. There was no milk for coffee in the morning... not even UHT. The "double bed" was two twins pushed together and was spongy and uncomfortable. In a big room with an alcove that could have comfortably accommodated an airmchair and coffee table, instead, there was only a very uncomfortable office type chair and no table .. the only comfortable place to watch TV was from the bed. To get into the annex I was in, meant remembering a six digit alphanumeric code entered into a clunky mechanical lock. Fawlty Towers Exeter anyone?
Staff were good and helpful. Quaint old Manor hous style (but a little worn). Good room sizes and well fitted bathroooms,
Noise is a big problem here. Particularly motorway noise. We were put in a room directly over reception and the entrance hall and could hear everything taking place until very late. Had to get another room just to have a few hours sleep. Second room was better but there was a constant and repeated noise of water flushing through the night.
The location ,rooms clean and food good .
We did not like the fire alarm that went off eight times in all over an hour period one evening. The New Year's Eve celebrations was held in a marquee which was cold I had to keep a thick cardigan on all evening.
We loved the location of the hotel. We could not find fault with anything. Food was really good and all staff were really nice and a credit to the hotel.
Truly a very comfortable hotel. Fantastic breakfasts.
Small issue with the fridge in the room.
The recently renovated bedroom - brand new bathroom suite, fixtures and fittings Delicious dinner at the function (wedding) I attended and excellent cooked breakfast - the eggs benedict was perfect
Compact room - OK for just a night or two but not suitable for a week's stay as the wardrobe was tiny and there was little storage space. The bathroom sink did not drain readily and there was poor water pressure in the shower. No shower cap provided Very poor impression on arrival as the reception was totally covered in autumn leaves that no one cleared up until the next day!
The bedrooms are lovely so roomy and clean
The bathrooms still need updating and re tyling not up to standard
Room was good overall & bed comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. The mini fridge contained pasteurised milk, so our tea tasted normal.
Room was a little small, & bathroom showed signs of wear & tare.
staff were brilliant
ignorant men in the bar being unprofessional with staff there was a private function on and some of the men were discourteous
The location and the friendly helpful staff. Breakfast choice was very good, and staff although very busy quite cheerful.
Had dinner in the bistro, kept waiting for over 15 minutes before we were asked for our dinner order, our wine was forgotten so had to remind the staff. House wine expensive.
Everything was good - location was great for our first time in the area. Breakfasts were excellent.
We had booked a meal in the Tara Brasserie - when it came the food was very good and the meal was a fair price but ordering had its difficulties and despite asking for a jug of water it never appeared. We felt the wine was expensive.
room 51 needs upgrading - bed mattress was very poor.
Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was excellent.
The room was very tired with old stains on the carpet which was well past its time. Needed upgrading.
Lovely bed, excellent food, good location, friendly staff.
Bathroom in very poor state with exposed wiring on the towel rail, broken grout on the floor, no shower curtain, WC with almost no flush! Service in restaurant very slow: 1 ½ hours for our starter to arrive is excessive! A shame the hotel has no gardens or proper outside space to enjoy the views around.
Friendly staff. Lovely location. Attractive buildings, in good order. Very good breakfast. Good quality room facilities, including high quality toiletries, hot drinks, etc in room. Relaxing atmosphere. Pleasant walks available nearby. Comfortable sitting rooms available.
Lack of cohesion across staffing and facilities, suggesting poor (or absent) management. I would keep the staff, but sack the manager (if there is one). No lime in bar (slack). Radio "talk show" playing in background of breakfast - awful. Guest data promised "wellingtons available for loan", but reception said this was untrue. Internet required constant re-logging. Poor evening restaurant service; my burger was to come with "hand cut chips & coleslaw" - the chips were in fact frozen "french fries", and the coleslaw never arrived ("sorry - it's off", I was told when I asked). "Daily menu" was the same every day - very limited choice. Hotel desperately requires solid management, but has great potential if a proper manager can be found.
We stayed for 3 nights. The hotel was in a central position for visiting the attractions in the Cotswolds. Good facilities with excellent friendly service from the staff. Would consider a return visit.
Good breakfast, but limited menu for evening meal in the restaurant. Also on the first night had to evacuate in the early hours due to fire alert (false alarm)- probably just one of those things!
Breakfast was very good that's all.
Leaves in reception all day an night food under table during breakfast. No wifi went to reception for help and they could not get it so waste of time taking mobiles an iPads.beer was off in bar so went to local pub all weekend.
We had a problem with Andys taxis. The hotel has a arrangement with the taxi company giving guests a fixed price into and out of Gloucester city. We had a driver that on two occasions tried to rip us off. We spoke to the hotel staff and they were brilliant. They refunded the difference and promised to speak to the manager of the taxi firm to make him aware of one of the drivers, obviously not been completely honest. Other than that we had a lovely weekend, hotel and staff were great.
Sorry, didn't read the comments box correctly. Everything about the hotel was good. No bad comments at all. Please reverse the my comments in to the order they should have been in. Thank you.
Couldn't fault anything everything was just as we expected. Very pleasant stay
Nice location lovely views fom the dining room, Good well presented breakfast with efficient friendly staff.
Paint peeling off the ceiling and skirting boards in our room. Staff in the dining room took 30 mins to bring a drink which we asked for 3 times, lamb sholder served up as a reconstituted lamb burger, very dissapointing
Restaurant staff superb. Food very good.
Our room 26 was tatty with badly stained carpet and wallpaper stained with water from ceiling to dad rail. The room urgently needs refurbishing!.
