our jacuzzi bath was nice and the tv in the bathroom was a nice extra but unfortunately the reception was very poor so wasnt able to watch anything on it. The bedroom tv wasn't any better either and that was also a shame. its not really a complaint but i think a mirror in the bedroom somewhere would be useful for ladies using straightning irons or hairdryers!! also it wasn't very nice to see broken chairs on our balcony or the scaffolding, but im guessing that was only a temporary issue.

Absolutely lovely. All bedrooms modernised to a high standard including bathrooms. Art deco original style downstairs. Mobile phone access not good but the hotel provides free wi fi with no problems! Food good. Lovely breakfast spent watching red squirrels, woodpeckers etc at bird tables only feet away. No sound, no light pollution. True peace and quiet in an outstanding area of natural raw beauty. Definately go again. In the afternoon we watched a golden eagle only a few miles away! Fantastic stay.

The Haweswater has been much improved since our last stay. The bedrooms and bathrooms have been very tastefully refurbished. The chef produced excellent meals and the hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. We will (already have) recommend to others.

The location is perfect, solitary and peaceful with wonderful views looking out over Haweswater reservoir. Our room (Lakeland) had everything we needed including a luxurious whirlpool bath (perfect for relaxing after a hard days walk on the fells - eagle spotting). The garden also attracted a wide variety of birds including the odd woodpecker and nut hatch as well as red squirrels and bats. There was a good choice of evening meals (including vegetarian) which were well presented and very tasty. All the staff, bar one, were friendly and helpful and we wouldn't hesitate in returning to such a beautiful and tranquil place. The hotel can be difficult to find as there are a lot of narrow, winding lanes to negotiate after leaving the M6 (the price you pay for its beautiful, solitary setting). Perhaps a few more small, strategically placed signs might be useful. However the locals seemed happy enough to point us in the right direction.

We love the location of the hotel and have stayed before , but the brochure's description and the reality are two different things. The first floor bedrooms may be luxurious and high quality- we don't know we didn't see them. We were on the second floor in a standard room and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls in several places and the room look tired and neglected. The window pane was cracked in two places and the curtains had two large burn holes in them , probably from cigarettes. The Hotel could be an amazing place in an amazing location with more investment. We know it is for sale , so maybe the new owners will give it the attention it deserves. The staff did their best but one couldn't even speak English , we still enjoyed it because we love the area ,and the quirkiness of the hotel , but we would love to see it realise its true potential. The red squirrels are a delight. Wallpaper peeling off the walls , cracked windows , burns holes in curtains , general lack of atmosphere in the bar downstairs , as they don't allow walkers in for some reason. Staff who can't speak English.Very small child's wardrobe in our room , not in keeping with the rest of the furniture , being very cheap mdf type of wardrobe. No hangers for clothes in the bedroom or bathtoom.

Although a little remote the location by the lakeside cannot be faulted. The food ,particularly from the evening dinner menu was excellent and very good value too.Our room 'Burnbank' was a little small ,a little tired ,but comfortable and clean, the spa bath did wonders for the aching limbs. Though not at the front of the hotel as we thought when we booked ,we did have an excellent view down the lake. If you think you may be eating in be sure to book your table before you go out for the day as the restaurant can be very busy. The staff were a little aloof at first but mellowed after a touch of 'jollying up' and became more than helpful.the manager even lent me his personal shaver adaptor plug ,thank you! Silly little things like not removing used plates before the next course ,or serving white wine without a cooler need to be addressed. Little issues but they did not spoil a very pleasant stay ,again Thank you to you all.

The Staff were very freindly and the hotel itself was superb. The rooms was luxurious and the jacuzy bath was great. Fantastic views over the moutains and lake which could be viewed from our balcony. We also dined at the hotel and the food was fantastic very well presented and quickly served. Allround superb escape for anyone seeking a relaxing break. There's nothing bad about this hotel.

the location was terrific though access to the hotel from the a6 north is not great and god knows what its like in wintery weather. the art deco style fits perfectly within the setting of the hotel and the local wildlife is wonderfull. the staff were friendly and the breakfast was ample. I would consider coming again in the summer months but access is a problem. would deffinetely recommend. access to the hotel is a problem and the bed is a bit low and bumpy.

The balcony and lake views were amazing and well worth paying slightly more for (Haweswater suite). The room, at £109, was a real bargain and we loved the bathroom (complete with tv and whirlpool bath!) as well as the size of room and seating area. The location of the hotel is excellent, we loved the quite surroundings and sense of being away from the overcrowding that you find in other parts of the lakes. Very enjoyable stay, no negative comments about any aspect of the weekend, and will definately return. We may hopefully see the golden eagle next time...

The hotel location is fantastic if you like remote areas with great views from the rooms and good walking all around. The location is unbeatable. The menu was acceptable although some of the food wasn't warm when it arrived. The invoice for the stay was hard to follow and upon returning home, I discovered that I had been overcharged by approximately £40. So check your bills !

Staff excellent, scenery at front of hote fabulous. Red squirrels the highlight of the weekend. Room very disappointing. We booked a luxury room, and if luxury is only T.V.shower & bath we got it. Room very small nothing but bed and bedside tables, no room for anything else. No view the room overlooked the flat roof of the kitchen and up on to hillside so quite dark and uninteresting. We did ask for an up grade but was told they could not accomodate, appears they have only two better rooms. (quite happy to pay the difference) Not suitable for disabled. No lifts and we had to carry our cases up two flights of steep stairs indoors and one set of steps outside. So beware if like us it was a special wedding anniversary get away, make sure you are clear about what you want.

I booked this hotel for my wife's birthday weekend which also was an Easter weekend. If in one word I had to describe the Lakeview Suite I booked would be "luxurious". Super king size bed with all three windows having the lake view. Awesome bath with Jacuzzi and small television where we enjoyed the wine and watched Alvin & The Chipmunks, not that we hav'nt seen the movie earlier. I know I paid a premium for the easter weekend but at the regular price the hotel is a steal. Only thing to remember is that it is not in Windermere, which is all touristy, it is around 20 miles from Windermere and 17 miles from Ullswater, so nothing around this area. Hotel bar is good and reasonably priced but not much vegetarian choices in the restaurant. Breakfast was very very good. Awesome for taking a break from hustle and bustle of the city.

The locatiion, the spa bath in the deluxe room. The quietness of location, albeit off season. Breakfast was good too. Arrived at 7.30 pm and felt discouraged to eat in the restaurant. Went to the pub in Brampton instead.

Hotel positioned in quiet and attractive location. Friendly and helpful staff. Room comfortable, well laid out and of good standard, particularly en-suite bathroom, no doubt recently refurbished (to a high standard). Food of good standard and reasonably priced. Prices of accommodation, food and drinks regarded as good value for money. Red squirrels and wild birds encouraged and catered for in balcony area, which was an additional appealing attraction for visitors. Room occupied (Wet Sleddale) has external access from garden area and is presumably designed particularly with disabled visitors in mind, but it was noticeable that there is currently no external slope provided up to the entrance door of the room to more appropriately accommodate easier access for wheelchair users. There was evidence of a small amount of apparently discarded items in the vicinity to the external access door, which could easily be collected and removed, as appropriate. There was evidence of leakage from the external downpipe from the room above, which could (presumably) be relatively easily rectified. Floor in hotel dining room has apparent uneven patches, resulting in some of the tables being inclined to unexpected movement. Available car parking may be at a premium when hotel fully booked.
