We had a pleasant surprise as we were upgraded to a suite, the view from the room were amazing both of lake and garden and trees. We are both wild life fanatics and were not disappointed with red squirrels and birds. We dont get away very often but the one night stay made our 17th Wedding anniversary very speacial. Hope we get the opportunity to return. Only problem was television in room kept going off or to black and white when telly had been on for 20 mins or so.

The food was excellent for dinner and breakfast. The red squirrels outside the dining room window at breakfast was absolutely fantastic. I was too warm in the bedroom but we were able to open the window.

Choice of food and drinks was very good, rooms were well equipped No welcome information on arrival, nothing given about restaurant times etc, had to pick it up from notices displayed. Had an accident, burnt elbow on excessively hot radiator, no warning signs, when informed reception, reply "you could turn it off" was not really appropriate

The location. The architecture of the hotel. The view from the room. the peace and quiet. The bed was old and the springs completely worn out. The food was expensive and mediocre. The room had an intermittent clicking sound above the bed.

Loved the location, great walking, very romantic. Loved the bar and restaurant, food was delicious. Staff were absolutely awesome, very friendly and helpful. The room that we stayed in (Swine Crag) needed a bit of a refresh.

The location was just what we were looking for, it was remote and the view of the lake and mountains was stunning. The food in the evening was also of a good standard. Unfortunately, our stay at Haweswater was very disappointing and we did not even stay to celebrate New Years as planned because we were so upset with how we had been treated. The standard room we were placed in was in very poor conditions. The wallpaper was coming of the walls, there was a big leak coming from the ceiling and there was a very bad smell coming from the bathroom due to humidity and lack of ventilation. When we complained about this, they did upgrade us to a luxury room which was what I would expect a standard room to look like. We were at first offered a discount but then the manager said that because we booked of booking.com that they would be at a loss if they didn't charge us for the full price. For me, this is very upsetting and not how I would like to be treated. We wanted to pay a fair price for what we received. I would not recommend this hotel, even though it is in a great location and very isolated (which we like), the staff are mainly young and inexperienced and they do not make you feel welcome, only uncomfortable.

we loved it. despite both having colds... the view from Swindale was just fantastic, especially the morning we woke to snow... and we loved the table in the window for breakfast (gorgeous) with the birds and the red squirrels and the view.. and tea by the roaring fire when we arrived in the pouring rain and howling gale... can't think of anything!

Always love this location and the deco style building and interior. Good to see the red squirrels again. Don`t like the new signs - tacky and not in keeping with the style of the bilding.

The period features give it a wonderful old-world atmosphere. The remote location makes for a very peaceful stay. The outstanding memory has to be eating breakfast (delicious) while watching red squirrels enjoying their own food right outside the window. Only minor issues - some facilities lacking in the room - the only rubbish bin was in the bathroom & very small, no hairdryer, no chairs & a lack of hooks to hang clothes on (really needed when you've been out walking in the rain!)

Fabulous, remote location. Only place to stay around reservoir. Art deco / original features. Arrived very early and were welcome to check in Lovely evening meal in restaurant - first class Courteous staff Open fire in bar Would return Not a dislike - just an observation. Stayed in attic room to get lake view. Decor and bed worn. No fan in windowless shower room and no towel rail. But clean, comfy, warm and great view. Fire lit in dining room in the evening would have been nice
