Brilliant location with red squirrels! Food excellent & always arrived piping hot. Comfortable beds, nice bathroom, staff very friendly. Lovely place to stay if you like peace & quiet, good walks & great views.
Food quality was very good and nicely presented and plentiful especially breakfasts
Staff were not welcoming and totally in different (one day great next day poor) had to wait for dinner order to be taken and this was an hour after booking time and my approach not there's, and similar at breakfast.
The food was good, breakfast was fresh and hot! The shower/bath room was nearly as big as the bedroom fantastic! Very quiet and peaceful
We booked a luxury double room but were given a twin room
Everything, staff excellent, room fantastic, the view from the room breath taking, location perfect. For a nice relaxing break I don't think it can be beaten.
there was nothing to dislike
Staff were welcoming and friendly, food choice was good and food was excellent. Overall an enjoyable stay :-)
We found our bedroom was too warm which effected our sleep
Location, location, location! To roll over in the morning to be greeted by sunlit fells and sparkling water is a pleasant memory that will last a long time. The choice and range of evening meals offered is good and the dishes were of a high standard and well presented. All staff were exceptional. Warmly greeted on arrival and well treated throughout our stay of 7 nights. Will definitely be visiting for a 3rd time next year.
The tiniest of complaints - please find some more music for the restaurant! Barry White et al for the 12th time in one visit (5 evening meals and 7 breakfasts) was a little too much to stomach. (Excuse the pun.)
How each couple waited in the lounge until their meal they ordered was ready. Also the very pleasant staff who served up breakfast 'with a smile'. Well done and thank you for our very memorable stay at the Hotel.
The old building overlooking the water is very well maintained in a warm and inviting way. The bedroom we had was full of character. Our meal in the restaurant was to a very high standard. All the staff were friendly and attentive - always trying to do their best in a way that says 'it matters'.
There is nothing I didn't like about this hotel, its staff or surroundings.
Hotel is in a beautiful tranquil location. There was no tv in our room, but it's so peaceful and relaxing you don't care, and this was mentioned on the website. The bar and restaurant were great, there's board games and a lounge you can relax in like it's your own living room. The manager was very friendly. Overall va great place to stay for a romantic weekend away.
There weren't towels when we first got to our room but the housekeeper brought them straight away and couldn't apologise enough.
Besides location, we liked the bed and the evening meal best.
Nobody at reception when we arrived, and the noisy bathroom door.
Location is awesome. No car noises the only thing you hear is water and birds. Bautiful location. Not so great if you dont have a car though as the hotel around 6 miles away from any residences. In the morning you feel you are on the tip of mountains as the only thing you see is mountains and water. Rooms are good. Staff is excellent and very friendly and helpful. Poeple who are looking for a quiet away from world break should visit. Will visit again with my wife.
No phone network atleast 3 network but its a good thing if you want to really relax. Wifi is okay but you dont go there to use wifi or to go on social media, this you can do it from your home.
I found the hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly
For the amount i paid for just 1night, i found the rooms were very small and the bathroom was small too. Also, there was no tv in the room which was poor considering the price paid. Also the area was very boring with very little to do, and had to travel everywhere. Would not recommend.
Staff were very helpful. The Hotel has been refurbished but core facilities, pluming etc may be weak. There were several water leaks through the ceiling. The views, if you have one are fantastic and it is very quiet.
Lack of TV in some rooms. Not many electrical sockets, some rooms only have one bed side light.
Outstanding location Superb food Friendly and attentive but not intrusive staff A real home from home feel.
Nothing enough to comment on
The food. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Afternoon tea good value for money. The location with beautiful views over the lake. The terrace and gardens were relaxing to sit in to enjoy the afternoon and evening sun. Some beautiful walks close by. The chamber maid service was excellent, The bathroom was kept gleaming. We had fresh towels every day and clean bedlinen after two days even know we were only staying three nights.
The bed was not very comfortable the mattress felt rather bumpy. There was only a bedside light on one side of the bed.
Stunning location, original art deco furnishings and decor, helpful and friendly staff, red squirrels and birds in garden
Small, awkwardly shaped room with small, sideways on 'lake view'.
Restaurant was good and not too expensive. Beds comfortable. Quiet night. Morning staff were helpful and competent. Red squirrels were an unexpected treat. The house had a sort of quirky charm.
Room (Lad Crag) had a persistent smell - old cigarette smoke I thought but could be something else. Evening staff couldn't get an alternative room made up for us and offered an air freshener which wasn't a complete solution. Checkout staff gave a satisfactory discount. Would probably stay again but would be choosy about the room and would try to arrive a bit earlier.
Lovely refurbished room
1 Poor staff member on reception on arrival
I absolutely LOVED this place! We stayed at this hotel for 3 days and it really wasn't enough. I could stay for weeks! It was heaven. The hotel exterior is stunning in itself, but the location is to die for. Firstly we booked the standard room, I rang the man just to confirm and he was absolutely amazing, upgraded us to deluxe for no reason and was really sweet and kind. The suite was gorgeous, the sleigh bed was big and the decor was tasteful and homely. The bathroom had a big whirlpool bath and a massive shower head. It was bliss! It was extremely clean and had everything you would want. Lovely modern tv, kettle, cups, glasses, paper etc etc nothing was overlooked. Even gave us tasty biscuits which I thought as a lovely touch. The only slight problem I had was the bed was slightly hard and uncomfortable and the pillows are slightly hard, but that is only a slight problem, mainly due to my sciatica. The breakfast was gorgeous, especially the scrambled egg. The waiters and waitresses were so helpful and kind, they would go out of their way to ensure you had everything you wanted and was happy. All smiles and hello's from the moment we walked in. In fact all the staff at the hotel was the same. If they passed you they would greet you and the level of customer service in this place is second to none. Even the guest that were also staying there were kind and cheerful. Always greeting you and very plesant. I had just come back from an absolutely disasterous holiday in Greece with very arrogant people and a horrible hotel, I came here and it restored by faith in people again. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, modern with its amenties whilst still keeping it's character. It an art decor 1950s (??) hotel, which may not be to everyones taste but I found it quirky and characterful. It was an older look but had a modern twist, had all you would need to make it comfortable but made you feel at home.
The welcome was warm. The food lovely and it was s very pleasant place to be. We will be back asap!""!
Cannot think of anything. It was great
The location is just fabulous, so quiet and peaceful. The views from the hotel are stunning. Good food and service from friendly staff. Red squirrels in the garden
Excellent location for a peaceful break with stunning scenery and excellent bird and wild life watching, especially the \red sqirrells
Location and views, red squirrels.
Signage says it is a "gastropub" - it isn't!
Nothing, would not recommend this Hotel to my worst enemy
Food, price, staff ... got food poisoning, could not even sit down in the room, facilities basic and poor.
The location - though remote is ideal for getting away from the stresses of modern life & no vodaphone signal = bonus :-)
Being 'upgrded' without consent or prior knowledge from a double with a view of the lake to a twin without but with more space & no view was less than desirable. A shame because this spoilled a birthday break to the extent that we may not return.
