Once inside Hawthorne Dene, you can experience the elegance, charm and comfort of a bygone era. This beautiful old house has a fine library with an open log fire. Hawthorne Dene serves award-winning full English breakfasts each morning in the grand dining room. There is also a well-stocked bar, and the guest house also offers free parking and free Wi-Fi access. Our superior double, assuring you of a sea view, was on the side of the house but did have a lovely large bay window with a window seat giving o great view overlooking Falmouth and the sea. During the week we stayed at 3 different b&bs. Hawthorne Dene was the most expensive but provided the poorest breakfast.

Location, comfort, bathroom, bedroom and breakfast all good. Our room backed onto car park at rear of hotel and when the curtains were closed the room was fairly dark, but we couldn't draw open the curtains in the morning to allow in sunlight as there was no other window covering to give us privacy which was unfortunate. (An optional pull-down blind would be useful in this situation). Also, an additional mirror for hair drying and make-up near good lighting would have been useful. For some reason, there was no duvet cover on our duvet! Not sure why.

Hawthorne Dene was adequate for our needs and was as described in the booking.com website Hawthorne Dene was a little outmoded, the period features and the photographs were overdone.

The Hawthorne Dene is unlike other hotels we've stayed in. If you want simple Ikea furnished rooms, this hotel isn't for you but we loved the treasure trove of interesting photos, antique furniture, super comfy bed and other touches like teddy bears in all the rooms! It was just like being at home with the added luxury of a delicious cooked breakfast every day and someone to clean the room! The proprietor made us feel welcome, even with our slightly boisterous 14 month old son! The walk to town took no more than 15 minutes (with a pushchair too!) and Falmouth is a brilliant base for exploring the rest of the Cornish coast. We will be back to Hawthorne Dene.

The staff was welcoming and helpful with information and maps. The decor was quite dated and the theme for the b&b was teddy bears, with a bear picture and name on every door and a soft toy on the bed. There was no hot water for an early evening shower and we had to wait an hour. Could not turn the heater on when we arrived - we think it was on a time delay. Breakfast was excellent. We did not like the the teddy bear theme and felt it would only appeal to a limited number of guests. Did not consider it good value for money as we have had better accommodation for less.

Convenient for the venue event that weekend, only a 10 minute walk away, useful Spar shop nearby, very quiet away from the noisy venue on closing, very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. I would definitely consider booking again.

The room was adequate but average and small. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was not very special, but okay. The hotel was, however, clean. If this was a 'superior' room and dread to think what an ordinary 'double' would be! The room was very small, with only one chair. The road the hotel is on is quite busy. Although it was clean it had a slightly musty smell.

The hotel was fascinating with so many items from a bygone era. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast excellent. I only wish I had been staying longer. Would recommend it to anyone.

The style of the hotel was Victorian and every room has been individually decorated. The room was very authentic and beautifully presented. The view was also stunning.

Hawthorne Dene Hotel feels more like a high-quality guest house. It's excellent: clean and well-decorated rooms; great shower; friendly staff; good location, and hearty breakfasts (with variety in the menu). I stayed in a single room. It was quite small but I think this was fairly reflected in the price. And I had no problem sleeping at night....comfy bed and the place is very quiet. So if you're on a b&b budget, but want an experience more like being in a hotel than someone else's home, then you'll be fine at Hawthorne Dene. I'd happily stay there again.

I loved the fact that it was a house full of character - the frontage was lovely too. It told me that the owner cared very much for her property and business and guests. The rooms downstairs were beautiful and had a warm, homely feel with lots of photo history on the walls. Even though the downstairs was 'busy,' the bedroom was unfussy but beautifully presented. I enjoyed the breakfast as well, and parking was good. I would happily recommend the Hawthorne Deane to anyone visiting Falmouth.

Loads to like. A beautiful, spacious Edwardian House with fascinating pictures of the house and town in times gone by. Fabulous sea views from our two rooms at the top front- this may not be so with all rooms. Wonderful service:- rooms and beds very comfortable indeed with every provision thought of. Food excellent! Breakfast -plenty of choice, excellent quality of food, beautifully cooked. Proper coffee, loose leaf real tea. Friendly, kind hosts. Location close to the wonderful Gyllyngvase beach and to Falmouth. The hosts have struck a perfect balance of being attentive yet relaxed. I would say the quality of everything was one of the memorable features. We would recommend it very highly. It has a bar for the evenings and a lovely lounge, though we did not use these facilities. The rooms had eg hair driers, small sewing kits etc provided- useful for us as we were there for our daughter's graduation. We had not stayed there before but we wished we had discovered it earlier. Also, this hotel provided a single room as well as a double. It is not always possible to find that combination and it was one of the reasons for our choice. We liked everything. There was nothing we would have changed.

We were made to feel very welcome. Our room had a lovely window seat with a view of the sea. The cooked breakfast was tasty and beautifully cooked, especially liked the hogs pudding.

Good breakfast, friendly proprietor. Good sea view. This guest house wants a complete makeover. The basin in the first room offered leaked and the room was much too small and with no chair. The whole place is much too cluttered and the family photos can only be of interest to the family.
