Fabulous hotel. Quiet peaceful location with great views and walks direct from the front door. The service and food both excellent, really friendly and helpful hosts and the little extras such as toiletries, refreshments including fresh milk, sherry and chocolates added the finishing touch.
Being picky, only complaint was the shower head kept slipping down and wouldn't lock in place.
The house is stunningly beautiful and the rooms are decorated in an elegant manner. The breakfast and dinners were exceptional and Gary and his staff were helpful in everyway. We would definitely return!
We cannot complain about anything except that we can't come back soon!
The warm welcome plus the best ever G &T was what we needed after a few awful weeks. The bed was so comfortable in a lovely clean, warm room. The good was quite amazing with great service from a delightful waitress who had a sense of humour. We returned home in a much improved state of mind, thank you.
The shower was a bit uneven and we were disappointed with the bathroom compared to the rest of the accommodation.
Food, service, room all excellent.
No criticism at all.
Everything is perfect. Nothing left to chance.
Breathtaking views in a fantastic location and spoilt for choice with all the walks within a stone throw from the doorstep. Stunning house with outstanding service from Donna & Gary who were attentive hosts. Amazing 5 course meals cooked to perfection by Donna and presented by Gary. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel more than welcome in their beautiful house. The rooms were comfortable and homely with a luxurious feel. The grounds were kept in an immaculate condition. We can not recommend the Hazel Bank Country House enough, it ticks all the boxes for a true Lake District retreat. We are looking forward to our next visit, we wouldn't dream of booking any where else to stay when we return to the lake district. Scott & Emma
There was nothing to fault about our stay. We liked the location of this small and friendly hotel which was set in lovely gardens which we were able to enjoy because of the lovely weather we had.l hope that we can stay again soon as this is a beautiful area.
There was nothing to dislike exept that one evening the hotel could not accommodate us for dinner which was disappointing because the food was so good.
extremely friendly and helpful owners
Excellent food Excellent location Excellent ambience Wonderful place to relax Well equipped for walkers who want to return from a walk to luxury
This is a delightful place to stay. If you prefer small and friendly hotels with character and high standards, over soulless and large "branded hotels", it's difficult to find better than Hazel Bank.
Lovely hotel in a beautiful location with fantastic facilities. Gary the owner was brilliant at hosting and always ensured we were both comfortable and wanted for nothing. His wife organised the catering and we had some of the best food we have ever eaten during our stay. Well done to everyone at the hotel for making our weekend so memorable!
Everything was perfect!
The initial greeting was warm and friendly The setting and the hotel itself was excellent The food was magnificent Value for money not cheap but worth every penny Will return for second helping soon
The shower was a pain half over bath kept moving when showering leaked water onto floor Not sure what idea of sherry and 2 glasses in room was ? They would not let us take chef home with us!
This is a lovely small hotel in a beautiful setting, the staff were all very nice, and the food was very very good.We enjoyed our stay and would go again.
Great hospitality Fab food
Think room rate is a little pricey
Very friendly service and excellent food
We liked above all the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, and the excellent food in an unforgettable location.
very friendly and informative hosts - the dinner was very imaginative and good. My husband's dietary requirements were well met.
Friendly & informed proprietor. Excellent Michelin star quality food in the evenings. Relaxed, tranquil setting.
Lack of amenities in Rosthwaite.
Excellent hosts, fantastic food, brilliant wine selection, fabulous views. What a way to spend my Husbands 50th Birthday. Donna, Gary and all the staff made it a most delightful time. Thank you so much.
Just what is there not to like
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Borrowdale in this beautiful country house. The location in the stunning Borrowdale is outstanding with access to wonderful walks from the door – no need to use a car and there is a regular bus service through stunning scenery at the end of the drive. The reception and service were extremely friendly and very efficient with Donna and Gary being the perfect ever-attentive hosts. The food was stunning cooked by Donna and wonderfully presented by Gary. We would definitely recommend taking advantage of the evening dinner as the perfect conclusion after a day out in Borrowdale and the Lakes. The bedroom was very comfortable and relaxing with a very homely feel. The large lounge with log fire is a highlight of the hotel with dramatic views and wonderfully therapeutic ambience. A great place to sit, relax and read. We cannot recommend Hazel Bank Country House highly enough and would like to say thank you to Donna and Gary for making our 25th wedding anniversary so perfect.
superb food, superb host, faultless hotel.
