Very good,
Score from 28 reviews
On a private estate, this relaxing country-house hotel has fine food, upgraded rooms, free Wi-Fi, pleasant views and a history of famous visitors. Heathercliffe has recently been refurbished, and all public rooms and lounges redecorated. The hotel was formerly the home of millionaire John Paul Getty I and the Queen of Yugoslavia. The atmospheric dining room was formerly a concert hall, and has Art Deco-style windows and a beamed ceiling. The Heathercliffe is ideal for banquets and conferences, and a stunning location for weddings. It is licensed for civil weddings and naming ceremonies. the hotel was lovely and quiet but less than 5 min taxi into a lovely town full of restaurants, they put is the wrong room at first (a standard when we'd paid for prem) and I asked to be moved which they did immediately, bed was very comfy!!

The hotel was quiet and peaceful - a great setting to relax. We loved the individual and personal feel - from the autographs on the walls to the stained glass. We were upgraded to the Queens Suite - which was a really nice touch. All the staff were great - helpful, friendly and polite. And the breakfasts were excellent. The actual driveway to the hotel is narrow: it didn't bother us, but we wouldn't recommend it for anyone not used to driving country roads. We dined in the hotel once - the food was reasonably good, but a trip into town would be better value.

A hotel of two halves. The rooms are really great with some having jacuzzi or 4-poster although some fittings have not been checked lately. At the discounted rate it was a real bargain. The gardens and grounds are also lovely. Potential to be a lovely country house hotel. Downstairs it's all a bit haphazard. The staff are young and pleasant but not trained for the job (not their fault, the owner's). The owner is a 'character' apparently and it's great when he's there but midweek he isn't there. I'm sure he entertains all the celebs well (autographs all over the walls) but ordinary punters are obviously not so important. Restaurant was poor with much of the menu reading as though it was microwave or boil in the bag. Wine list unimaginative and bar was poorly stocked. Imho the owner should invest in training, a proper chef and be on the premises more or else he should sell up.

Quite. Breakfast was good. Dinner was not great. Chicken was dry. Fish was not great. Background music reflected the age of the staff and not the residents, mostly older people.

The location is away from the City which is very relaxing, some nice walks down to the local pubs. Staff and management very friendly and hospitable, we stayed for evening meal which was superb. Well worth the money.

The hotel was very welcoming and unique in style. The location is fantastic as it is near enough to towns/city but far enough away to to very quiet and peaceful although the room we used had a 4 poster bed it would of made our stay more pleasant had it been secured to the wall as everytime either of us turned over the whole bed creaked and groaned but on the whole a very enjoyable experiance in a lovely hotel

Room was lovely. Was greeted immediately and shown to room, even though arrived before official checkin. Staff helped out with directions to shops and sorting out taxi. Breakfast - sausages overcooked.

Large, comfortable room with pleasant garden view. Staff seemed indifferent or preoccupied, did not respond to reception bell, had to be found in kitchen; perhaps overnight guests are not their principal business..

Very nice hotel and nice staff. I was on a deal for bed and breakfast and it was very good value for money. Nice room and good breakfast. Staying for business and not many other people about but I was made to feel at home. Will definitely stay again especially if I can get the same deal. A satnav is very handy for finding it unless you have a good map reader in the car.

The house is unique and has an interesting history. It has lovely grounds and is very peaceful and relaxing. Young children were welcomed when visiting a resident and the host was most kind and helpful. The breakast was very good and the ensuite room (a double priced for single use) was light and comfortable with a charming outlook on two sides. I highly recommend it.
