Breakfast brill Staff spot on
The staff. Location Breakfast good but when busy a long wait.
No lift. Shown to the attic on the fifth floor a superior room. Had to take the luggage up. Found the room a total disgrace. Bedding ripped. Carpet dirty. Bedding appeared dirty. Pillow cases frayed. Bathroom was awful. I complained and was shown a room on the ground which was just as bad. Then shown another room on the third floor, still no lift but the room was a lot better. I would not stay again as the rooms are not consistent in quality.
Lovely sandwiches made for us in the bar area The whirlpool was good
the wifi was poor. Only managed to get on line for a short time the whole weekend
Short walk to the walls. Staff were very helpful, nothing too much trouble. The breakfast was of a high quality.
Although in a quiet street, there was some noise from trains in the morning - we had a room at the front of the hotel. Friends staying in a room at the back of the hotel were not disturbed by the trains.
The location was really good, only a 5 minutes walk to the minster and the lovely shops and restaurants are only a few minutes walk away from there. Checking in was swift and easy; we actually arrived 45 minutes before check in as we misjudged the traffic and, as our room was ready, we were able to park and check in at this time. The staff we met were all very friendly and the room we stayed in was ideal and fit for purpose
Cozy B&B style hotel, friendly staff. Free parking
Not very easy to find the hotel or to park at the back. Wifi is only available in the living room
Convenient location. Comfortable. Good breakfast.
Staff a bit overwhelmed the hotel was full. First room given on top floor had no windows, only velux in roof.Bar closed at 10pm
This was our 2nd visit to Headley House, has everything that we wanted for a few days away, the location is great, just a short walk into the town, will be back again
Nothing we didn't like
the location and the bed
Breakfast very good. Restaurant evening meal very nice.
Service in general was slow, particularly in the bar ! This is not a criticism of the staff who were obviously under resourced ?
Too many stairs!
Staff very helpful and personable
Limited parking space Ordinary breakfast
Idea base for visiting York and its attractions, 10 minutes on foot and your inside the gates and the historic City unfolds in-front of you or if the National Railway Museum is your thing, 10 minutes and over the river and Mallard, City of Truro and the rest of the collection are waiting for you. The Hotel has an off-road car park, so no need to drive at all. The beds are comfortable, clean and the rooms have WiFi connection, breakfasts are cooked to order and plenty of it. The staff are friendly and efficient and we had an evening meal which was excellent.
The hotel is in an excellent location, being near enough to the center to walk to all major attractions but far enough out to avoid the bustle and noise. The staff are extremely helpful, eg with parking, and the hotel is clean, comfortable and cosy. We will definitely be staying again when in York.
There was nothing we didn't like.
light hearted, playful signage. Staff has helpful in locating places and routes for sightseeing
Extremely poor quality and worn out beds. Towels although clean were grey with old dirt. When we asked for the bed to be looked at to fill in the large indentations they said they would but they never followed up. Our bed was in worse shape than any we have ever slept on. Our towels were replaced on one morning with only one bath towel for two people. We were told they would bring another one up but we had to ask again. This place does have potential but those running it need to get organized and place more emphasis on their customers. In addition, they need to replace thier beds and towels. Although we were not effected by the lack of a lift, This should be included in their description of their hotel, as we had to walk up several floors and the steps were quite narrow. This would be a major issue for some individuals we know who have mobility issues.
Hedley house was able to provide us with easy access to York city centre, great breakfast, amble space to relax.
Front room had some noise from trains, not often but would have been nice to be informed when checking in
Food was excellent. Comfortable room, upgraded from a standard room to a superior room for the same charge which was an added bonus. Competitive price for what we received. Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel very clean and well run Excellent parking facilities.
I can`t think of anything I didn`t like
Staff were really helpful Room was very clean and well appointed Easy walk to city centre Off street parking
Stairs to room No light bed cover for warm weather
It had a lovely atmosphere. Everything was spotless. Loved the decor. Our room was amazing! Definitely will be staying with you again.
The Hedley was well located for walking to the core of York. Kind of a funky charm to the common areas that suggested a fun young attitude.
Our room was a very plain experience. Had all the normal stuff and worked fine but was very forgettable. Did not reflect the common area at all. Just a room.
The hotel is in a quiet location within easy walking distance to the city centre. Our superior room was large, warm and very well appointed. It had a shower as well as a bath. Parking was available at the rear of the building, very good for a hotel so close the the Minster.
The superior bedroom was in a basement, below street level. We were not advised of this at the time of booking. I wonder why!! The evening menu was very limited and did not appeal to either of us so we ate elsewhere. A good breakfast was spoiled by a dirty chair, a dirty cup , a cold plate and a very long wait for the food. A faulty towel rail was not made good, and I was asked had I switched it on!
Breakfast was good and served efficiently. Information booklet very good and a good sense of humour. Staff helpful and friendly
Carrying my suitcase up 56 stairs.
The staff were friendly and welcoming.
In my opinion Hedley House needed to address some house keeping issues...such as very noticeable marks on walls, peeling paintwork and general lack of care. I wasn't sure the bedding had been changed,so asked for clean bedding. The towels, though washed, had seen better days and needed a 'boil' wash. On two mornings I had to ask for clean cutlery at breakfast. It was just a general lack of care and I felt the price of my stay did not reflect the hotel.
Good location. Staff very friendly. Breakfast good quality.
Decor was a bit what you would expect at a B & B not a hotel @ £109 a night.
lOCATION ROOM SIZE
The fact they refused to accept my change from 2 to 1 nights over 30 days in advance and they had deducted the full cost from my debit card 2 mths in advance. Phone system did not work. parking poor. Rooms tired.
