A late Victorian mansion, Somerton House Hotel bears the distinctive red sandstone like much of the buildings within the town of Lockerbie.

The shower tray was very slippy. Great care had to be taken. A shower mat would have helped.
I liked the retained "country house" atmosphere. The staff were very helpful.
extra fee for paying by credit card
staff great, food was good and served quickly. Rooms could do with a little bit of updating, especially the bathrooms but overall fine
We went into Dumfries and spoke with the bar staff to what the closing time was and agreed 23.00 we got back at 22.10 to find the hotel closed up for the evening.
Room fifteen was rather cold to start with. Bathroom never got warm.aaaa
Lovely staff and a quaint place to stay overnight. A simple good food.
Refurbishment required Heating poor especially bathroom and corridor Bar poorly stocked
Staff Food Location
The room was very cold when we arrived only heated by an electric heater and was also cold through the night. The hot water was only luke warm and there was a lot if mould round the bathroom.
Beautiful surroundings and lovely building in the main part of the building.
\a little disappointed with the menu choice in the restaurant.
friendly staff, nice restaurant and lounge areas. Good location for the Borders country, Solway Firth etc,
Everything. nothing was to much trouble.
Everything we were made to feel like royalty we will stay again in the near future.
Chilly room on arrival . Lack of bar staff in the afternoon. Improperly cleaned bar area. (Food on floor)
The location, staff , food , ambience.
That we only had the one night!
My teenage son and I were on a half term road trip travelling to Edinburgh and around the Borders. We were booked into this fabulous B&B hotel on line by my wife. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel, it's location, the grounds and especially the scrummy full Scottish breakfast with haggis.
Bedrooms are a little tired.
Staff were excellent, pleasant and helpful, food was good. Plenty of choice at Breakfast. Lovely grounds for early morning walk. Loved the hallway and staircase!
Need good refurbishment through out, swimming pool on website not in use over 3yrs but info not on website. Décor tired in very dire need of work. Bar staff went away had to ring bell and wait for service. WIFI and mobile signal 0-1, did my work on golf courses as no good trying in hotel..
Not in hotel for lot of time on golf course. Grounds of hotel good away from traffic.
The hotel overall is a little tired and in need of a little redecoration
The entrance to the hotel is beautiful
Some renovations overdue
Location, food, service, character
Breakfast seemed to have been made earlier and put under hot lights
Matresses could do with replacing Wifi not working
Huge family suite Friendly, helpful staff Good breakfast
waiting 45 minutes for breakfast
My room (family room) - it was very dated - it wasnt very clean The staff were not very well trained - I was given directions to my room rather than being shown - I had to wait 30 minutes for my drink & meal - a party of 10 arrived after me and were served their meals before me - there seemed to be a lack of bodies (receptionist was also helping out in the restaurant) The restaurant was showing signs of requiring decoration - the carpet was faded and thread-bare - The wallpaper was coming adrfit.
The building The main hallway & staircase were well presented and had a real wow factor upon arrival
Food was dreadful.breakfast was fatty bacon..cheap sausages etc...and our meal at wedding reception in nice but freezing room was actually unedible..roast beef dinner that was what looked like piece of shoe leather that was a boiled? Steak.hard veg n roasties and a burnt yorkie.then my pudding arrived sticky toffee pudding that was burnt to a crisp..worst meal I have ever had.left there and went straigbt bar for some crips as alot of thr guest did.shame beatiful facade of building but when u look closely ehind..place is falling down..run down.our room no1was massive..nicely decorated but cold..views over car park n a large falling down shed.wouldnt stay agIn.much nicer and cheaper places to stay..and beware if your ha ing a wedding here
Staff were friendly if in short supplybeautiful grounds
The family suite we booked was unavailable so we had to make do with the kids on camp beds in our room. Thankfully it was only one night.
Lovely setting, lovely grounds, great characterful rooms. friendly and helpful staff.
This was our first time staying at Hetland Hall. We received a warm welcome and there was ample car parking space infront of the hotel. The entrance and stairway was magnificent and beautiful wooden bannister. There was no lift which could make it difficult for some. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable bed. Good quality furniture and clean with ensuite. Breakfast catered for all. Good wedding venue and delightful stay with other family and friends staying over too! We would be happy to book here again thank you.
I have a little bit of a disability and could'nt use the bath in the room - a shower would have been an added bonus, I had to go into my Sons room everyday to have a shower. The bed was really squeaky when turning over and could be heard in the adjoining room. But this wouldnt put me off going back as the staff were lovely - and the Hotel was beautiful.
We booked the Honeymoon suite as we were getting married at Gretna Green - the room was lovely , it was clean , a generous size and the bed was an amazing size.
Door rattled had to put a bag in front of room door.Poor drainage of sink.
Large room for family
Bed uncomfotable . We were going to a wedding there was no mirror in the room and no stool to sit at the dressing table to do hair and make up.
location, style, staff and value for money.
Some of the fixtures and fittings were a bit tired and worn out but this was expected for a building of this age. A broken toilet flush in our room was fixed promptly during the day before we returned for the evening which didn't hamper our experience
The staff were extremely helpful. The building was very quirky bursting with character completed with open fires for those cold Scottish nights. The cooked breakfast was excellent and great value
