In the heart of Oxford, opposite the Ashmolean Museum, The Macdonald Randolph Hotel offers sumptuous bedrooms and a luxury spa. With an award-winning restaurant, there is also a famous bar.
Score from 731 reviews Very good
One of England's oldest inns, with a history dating back over 700 years, The Shaven Crown is located in Shipton-under-Wychwood, 7 miles from Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds.
Score from 12 reviews Superb
The grounds on which the hotel were situated were delightful as was the hotel itself
The bathroom was a little dated. Party goers were disturbing for 30 minutes at an unreasonable hour.
The location is stunning and the house is beautiful.
Prices of the drinks and the rooms were dirty and infested with flies that we were told were a problem. Not good when they are found in the bath and sink and the overhead light was infested with them.
The history of the building. Certainly a hotel not like many others.
The newer rooms in the archer wing are too small. Especially if you have a baby.
The setting was perfect; just like out of a fairy tale. Perfect location and setting for weddings.
Staff were friendly. Conference facilities excellent.
First time I came to this hotel I drove and all well. However if you come by train not so good. I had to pay £40 for taxi from Oxford and returning went to nearby Charlbury and gap of over 2 hours between London trsins on a Saturday. So marked down on acessibility. Food not all that. Didn't get a room until early hours because of computer mixup.
the room was very modern, and the bathroom was lovely. Very impressed by conference facilities, and the food they provided was lovely.
The sink waste was leaking, so I had to use a towel to soak this up. The wardrobe appeared to have a track above it for a door, which wasn't there. There was no mirror at the desk to sit and get ready, a minor detail that would go a long way. Especially for drying and styling hair. Extortionate call costs to UK landline - 85ppm (no mobile signal). Don't be tempted to call anyone from the hotel room phone!
The leisure facilities were excellent
The twin room was small and dated
Conference room was good, nice facilities Etc. waiters very good.
Room very shabby, wallpaper hanging off wall! Only plug socket was under desk so had to get onto knees to plug anything in. So far from mirror that hopeless for hairdryer. Lovely staff but mostly very poor English which is fine unless you are trying to ask a question!
The delightful 18th century mansion with its large hall staircase and stylish bar and afternoon tea rooms. The extensive grounds with woodland walks the golf course and pool, what's not to like.
There was no hot water on the morning. I had to have a cold shower
every thing but...
staff were quite rude also small bedrooms in old part of hotel.
All staff very pleasant as well as the venue
Nothing not to like
Black and white dining room
The fact we were given a lower standard of room than we had booked and paid for.
Really helpful Frenchman on reception who guided me in by phone and was great. I had been "parked" on the motorway for 2.5 hours due to an accident and ended up arriving really late and got completely lost on the sat nav as the hotel isn't in Heythrop and the postcode is wrong.
The postcode is wrong on the booking.com website and led me to Heythrop in the middle of nowhere. Not great when driving on own and at 11.40pm in the dark. The hotel is actually 5 miles away from Heythrop. Put "The Drive, Enstone" into sat nav to get there. Also, when you arrive, there is the Crown Plaza hotel and then the De Vere Venues. You need to know which one you've booked. Signs very small, poorly lit and difficult to read in the dark from a car. Bed too soft for me personally. Bathroom wasn't very clean and mould around the shower/soap dispenser. However, I was so shattered, I couldn't be bothered to check out the rest of the room in great detail.
The website failed to show the real look of the room I stayed in. The building my room was in felt like a student dormitory and the room was very small. Apart from that it is a beautiful hotel.
Pretty location in woods in old mansion.
In the middle of nowhere. If you want a beer you must eat here. The receptionist said we must eat in the restaurant. Later, in the bar area, we found there are pretty good bar meals, luckily found it before the dinner in the restaurant which was pricey.
Excellent value for money with great facilities. Very friendly staff and guests.
Very big site so a good walk to the spa. WiFi poor.
Staff attitude very good.
Lack of communication between the High paid Staff and junior members. The bar prices were out of touch with the real world.
Location is everything we wanted, the food was excellent and the Concierge Alan is very Knowledge able, the surrounding really beautiful , requires a lot of work. Slept like a log no noise . Will come back later when it is done
The receptionist not a smile, no explanation even though we did not have the rooms we booked, very sad unwilling to help. The spa same story not helpful at all. The swimming pool cool not warm. A shame They could do so much more.
The walk around the grounds was quiet and picturesque. Beautiful house, inside and out. Good if unspectacular breakfast. Lovely, welcoming atmosphere and staff. Huge room.
One radiator was stick on in our room and made it a little too warm. Resorted to having the window above it open to mitigate the heat
Stunning location The concierge fellow was absolutely charming Great breakfast Amazing bathroom and shower!
The man on reception was unfriendly and not very welcoming. only way to plug in kettle was placing it on the floor!
Grounds were beautiful as were the public rooms
On the ground floor . Woke up to ""activities "" above. Could hear everything
The hotel has an outstanding building and it looks historical.
The location is a bit far from Oxford
The estate and the main house are stunning, but normal old house issues. Quiet.
Felt like they were geared towards the business visitor and on-site conferences. No good if you don't have a car unless you are a serious walker.
