The grounds where lovelly and peaceful. The staff where very nice.
Very slow service in the restaurant and they didn't explain it was a fixed menu, however the staff looked new and young so likely teething problems. The room I was allocated was in a separate building to the main house, a long walk in the dark to the main house for dinner, not a nice experience for a single female traveller. The room was up a flight of stairs (no lift), even through I had requested a ground floor room. The room itself was clean, however it was extremely cold. There were no heating controls and the radiator in the room was cold even though the thermostat valve was turned up full. All this I can forgive, however there was no shower in the bathroom, just a shower head attached to the taps, which didn't streatch very far, no shower curtain and only one small shampoo. I was gobsmacked that in 2014 there are still hotels without showers! A very cold night's sleep with no warm shower in the morning. Will not be returning.
The spiders The shower cubicles were a bit small
Late night check in and left without checking out the facility so cannot give a full review. But staff were friendly upon check in and room was very clean and modern.
Comfortable room. Nice location.
Noisy guests interfered with my sleep and I had a very early start.
staff were lovely
room was small
Reasaurant closes early.
Responsiveness of staff
Insects in the room
Room was in quiet location.
Room very small and lighting poor. Expensive for what it was with no breakfast included compared to other hotels in the area at similar prices and facilities. Also a long way from main part of the hotel.
I understand it is a wedding venue, but would be great if there was an option to have a quiter room
Our friends arrived from Belgium and because there was a wedding they were put in a dark corner and not allowed to use the bar and also this was before 14.00 so rooms were not ready. We arrived to meet them and then went outside to take further drinks. Then a manager (Male) came and said good news was the rooms were ready and bad news was we could not sit there anymore due to private function. We left, no problem, and went to check into the rooms. They were in the Fir Court rooms and so were told that a car park further down was near to the rooms for them. We went with them and also parked our car in that car park. We then was taking in the views when the same male came and told us we could not stay in that area because of a wedding taking place outside. We said ok and went to our cars to leave. He then stopped us driving up the road and said we had to wait another 1/2 hour for the ceremony to finish. We said why did we get told that we could park there and also his attitude was very abrupt without any apology. He could have also told us that when he said the rooms were ready. I find it very bad that a paying guest is not as important when a function is taking place. We then, fortunatley, spoke to a lady, I think called Kelly, who had the right attitude and agreed that we should have been told about the parking at least and apologised. This apology made all the difference to our embarrasment with our Belgium friends.
Reception staff on arrival unhelpful No one appeared to be in charge of the restaurant with different people (once seated) asking the same questions
The ease of parking close to the room and the fact that a wedding taking place at the hotel was not at all evident. We chose this one as we had stayed at another De Vere Venue and had had the same courteous service as we did this time.
The gurgling sounds and draining water of an overflow above our room (17) almost continuously during the night. (Maybe from over-hot water expanding from a tank?). As would be expected, there were a few noisy guests along the corridor during the night. It would be good to have reminders that rooms are probably occupied by people sleeping!
Friendly and helpful staff
Bar dining was set up temporarily in a meeting room as there was a wedding party This lacked atmosphere and was out if the way but the fruendky waitress tried hard to look after us
The staff were very helpful and polite. \the room as requested was quiet and peaceful. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Very comfortable bedroom. Hotel was peaceful and in very attractive surroundings.
great staff, lovely location set in countryside, very quiet - a real getaway
lack of air con - but still a perfect place
A fantastic view from the room of an air conditioning duct that buzzed all night!!!
Double room in main house (room 1) was like a cupboard, very small and no seating area as advertised with the smallest en-suite bathroom I ever seen
The grounds are very pretty and well worth a walk around. Very quiet area and peaceful
Such a ball ache to have to walk from the stables where I was staying to the main house for breakfast. The hotel is split into two halves.
wifi not good in one room used
The location was nice and although my room was the smallest I have ever stayed in it wasn't bad.
On the Friday night I was not allowed into the bar or restaurant as there was a wedding going on. Allowing guests to sit in a smaller room would have been a better option than staying in my room.
As with all hotels, breakfast during the week is from 7am and 8.30am at the weekend. I always miss breakfast, as I need to be on location for work between 8 and 9am on most of my photo shoots, which are mainly on weekends.
The food was excellent, both the wedding meal and the breakfast the following morning
The room was very small and the bed was up against the wall which was totally unacceptable as we had to move the bed round into the middle of the room at an angle so that we could both get in it! Consequently there was no bedside table on one side and the pillows kept falling off the back of the bed as the headboard remained attached to the wall. The bathroom was quite dirty (floor, walls, taps etc), dirty tiles in the shower and peeling paint on the walls and the towels were of a very poor quality. The lighting in the room was very dim and inadequate. All in all, not a very pleasant experience, although I have stayed many times in De Vere hotels so was very disappointed.
It is a beautiful place, maticulously kept, exceedlingly clean and great price. One of the best of its kind in England.
The location was superb and the opportunity to visit the Church in the grounds was very comforting to those who like such things.
The room was very small. Cell-like. It would have been useful if this point was made on the web-site, so that people could make a choice about going for low rate or paying more for a larger room. The evening meal was a disappointment. The burger was leathery and the bar eating area was made very uncomfortable by the barman`s insistence on playing Sky-Sports darts competition at full volume.
room and bar area
tv in bar could have been better - A phone call the next day saying i had room service when i never?
