Hotel information

Hilden Lodge was originally named Castleton Villa and was allegedly built as the lodge for Castleton House at the end of Hearne Road. The original building was constructed in the early 1800s and retains a number of original features including cornicing and plaster coving. The Lodge became a guest house around 30 years ago and was then extended in the early 1980s.

All rooms were tastefully renovated in 2006 to offer comfort, security and modern conveniences; such as a flat screen TV, Freeview and access to a DVD library.

Area information

All Saint's Church (2 miles / 3.2 km) - considered one of the most elaborate and beautiful of Britain's churches. Gustav Holst was a Chorister at All Saints; his father, Adolph von Holst, was Organist and Master of the Choristers.

Cheltenham Racecourse (3 miles / 4.8 km) - home to the prestigious 4-day Cheltenham Festival, featuring the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Sudeley Castle Gardens (9 miles / 14.5 km) - amid 14 acres of award-winning gardens, Sudeley often stages a variety of exhibitions. The location is perhaps best known as the home of Queen Catherine Parr (wife of Henry VIII), who is entombed at St Mary's Church, within the grounds.

Travel information

By car:
From the M5:
- Exit at junction 10 and follow the A4019 (Tewkesbury Road) into Cheltenham.
- Once in the centre, keep to the A4019 by bearing left at High Street onto Poole Way and then Swindon Road.
- Keep straight on through St Margaret's Road, Fairview Road.
- Bear right into St Johns Avenue and then follow the curve into Albion Street and then Berkeley Street.
- At the T-junction, turn left onto the A435.
- Continue until you reach a fork in the road - bear left for the A40 (London Road)
- The hotel is situated just off the 8th turning on your right.

- N.B. If approaching along the A40 from the opposite direction, the turning is the 4th left after the Dowdeswell Reservoir.

By rail (from Cheltenham Spa Railway Station, 3 miles / 5 km):
- Direct trains from Paddington take around 2 hours.
- A taxi from the station will cost approximately 5-8 GBP.
- Stagecoach bus service Q runs from the station to London Road.
