Main reason for visit was sister's 50th - planned to provide spa treat as gift - only spa was closed. The price of room seemed high for level of standard in facilities. Had better and cheaper elsewhere. Room overlooked busy and noisy road. Nearest bus stop was down this road with no pavements. Lack of sight of staff - on reception especially. Front door constantly locked.
I have phoned several times and emailed 4 times I still don't have a vat receipt. I have now had to pay for the stay out of my own money as they can't be bothered to send or email me my receipt. Very unprofessional
Not a lot
Attitude of owners. Everytime we required help had to use mobile phone to speak to owners and then wait for someone to come to see us. Everywhere was locked up had to leave note to ask for another towel for our room. Room not serviced, when spoke to owner and complained told if we didn't like it we could leave, so we did.
Bedroom allocated was extremely tiny so had no choice but to pay extra for comfortable room. Pillows very poor. Mattress very poor.
Beautiful view from bedroom window. The girl who served breakfast was polite and friendly but alone, so overworked.
The bedroom was unbelievably small - L shaped with a bed squeezed into each leg of the L. As mentioned the view was beautiful but you had to kneel on the bed to see it as there was no room at all. Good job we only had luggage for one night as we couldn't have got more than a flight bag in. We had to unplug the tv to boil the kettle and to put the kettle etc on the floor to watch tv. All far too small! Beds certainly need revamping - the mattresses are at their use-by date as the sides had broken down. The bathroom was fine with a really good shower though the tap on the basin was loose. The water (not the hotel's fault) is yellow but there's no point in putting it in the room in a bottle as drinking water. It looked like something else completely!! Surely supermarket value water could be factored in to the very expensive £95 we paid for b & b. The room had been redecorated at some point but whoever did it obviously wasn't tall enough to reach the top of the walls as you could clearly see the roller marks where the paint stopped three-quarters of the way up!!. The breakfast was sufficient in quantity but certainly not quality - all very cheap ingredients right down to 'plastic' white bread toast. Really disappointed - the website looks very promising. Maybe because it's a 'wedding venue' they hope their guests will be too excited or too hungover to notice that they're most certainly not getting value for money.
Sheets & pillows were not clean-stained. Asked to be changed only 2 out 3 beds were changed & not ironed. On the second night – there was no water! Granted something had gone wrong, but no concern or offer to provide bottled water or any assistance that evening, especially when you have kids – just a slapdash approach & not service driven at all. Light fixings had cob webs as well - wonderful!
too meny steps for my wife
Most disappointed with our stay at this location. I would not class this as an Hotel but rather as a Guest House. On our arrival there were no staff present just a phone number, when we did find someone she was a cleaner (Who was herself very helpful). With no staff present and no prospect of an evening meal we ate at a nearby pub. On our return at 21:30 (Not an unreasonable time we feel) the place was in total darkness and again there were no staff in attendance. The rooms were also dissappointing with shabby linen (One of our towels had a very significant hole in it (Not really acceptable at this price) and very limited space, our travelling companions had a twin room that was so small there wasn't even a wardrobe, all the hanging space that was available to them was a few hooks. Good luck if you want to use the Sauna or Heated Swim Spa as the Sauna was locked and the swim spa was stone cold and again there were no staff to on hand to help. In short the website gives a very misleading view of this "Hotel" and I would never have booked it knowing what I now know, and I would not recommend it at all.
Surrounding countryside and the food was very nice. The chef was also waitress and receptionist a very pleasant hard working young lady.
The towels were not changed in the 3 nights I was there neither was the waste bin emptied. The pillows were very thin. Only one other couple were there at meals otherwise I would have been on my own. The Spa was closed as the beautician was on holiday the hot tub was always covered up and in the open air but nobody around to open it up or switch it on. This is really not a Hotel more like a Superior Guest House.
No one mentioned treatments were not available on the weekend I stayed. Only when I called to confirm 24 hours ahead I was told there was no evening meal due to owners injury. A call earlier would have helped us plan.
A bit disappointed all round really. But they did stay up late to receive us as we had to stop & east on the way there.
Nice family run B&B. Lovely views, tasty breakfast, relaxing hot tub and close to Sidmouth.
On a very noisy road. Dinner completely average. No wifi in bedroom.
View very good Breakfast very good Young lady receptionist / cook very pleasant and officiant
Bedding had dog hairs in it Headboard not fixed to bed Shower unusable design Most of the hotel looks like it's been built by a novice DIY'er and a strange smell almost everywhere
The room was an L-shaped space and rather small. The beds were well past their sell-by date
Location Extremely helpful and friendly staff Clean Great food and breakfast was delicious Would definitely stay again
Greeted by a man whose trousers could not have been more torn. Asked for a meal but was told not possible. In the room there was a menu. also the next morning in the breakfast room there was a board with 'specials'. Charged for extra cup of coffee on top of an expensive continental breakfast.
Modern, clean decor. Big large room for the 5 of us, 2 of the single beds were behind a wall, so the younger kids could go to sleep earlier. The 2 hot tubs were brilliant, we spent both evenings in them, lovely view too.
The double bed and sofa bed were very hard, so disturbed sleeps for those who slept in them. The full English breakfast was expensive, so we had bacon sandwiches instead.
The hotel was newly decorated, quiet, clean and appeared to be a peaceful country hotel. A family run hotel which is more in tune with a B&B than a hotel.
We expected a quiet hotel in the country. Our room faced onto the busy Sidmouth Road with constant traffic noise all night. The bathroom had a very low ceiling which made moving around very difficult. We were told that the spa was fully booked when in fact it was closed.
We checked out and so cannot comment
We booked on the basis that the room was of a 4-star standard. It may be that most of the rooms are of a 4-star standard. However, the room that was allocated to us most certainly was not. There was no wardrobe in the room and the only facility for hanging up clothes was a set of hooks on the wall. The room was pokey. There were no chairs to sit on. There was nowhere to put our suitcases. It would not have been possible for both of us to watch the TV from our beds. The owners advertised that the restaurant was open for lunch and dinner. However, we were advised that it was open only for breakfast which was not included in the room price. When we decided to leave, the owners were not prepared to refund any of the amount which we had paid for our room. We recognise that the terms of the booking stated that the whole fee is forfeited if the booking is cancelled later than 48 hours prior to the arrival day. However, this has to be on the basis that we are offered what we paid for. As stated above, we were not offered the 4–star accommodation that we paid for.
Huge family room and bathroom, lovely breakfast, great spa facilties and staff who were very helpful at all times.
Pool and hot tub
Not informed before arrival bar and restaurant wild not be open ! Very small double bed for such a large room . Very lacking in atmosphere. A b&b not a hotel !
Beautiful views, flexible staff and good position for coastal resorts.
A little difficult to access from the busy road during heavy traffic flows - only at peak times.
Sometimes I find travelling on my own difficult, but certainly not here, I was made to feel so very welcome and relaxed, nothing was too much trouble and the owners made me feel part of their family, it was like being at home. The nightly rates here are very competively priced when comapred to other Sidmouth Hotels, and it includes free use of the Spa. Many thanks Wim.
Nice views to back of hotel
On a busy main road, no reception. Hard to request help when required as no method of doing this-no-one around.Restaurant Closed for evening-chef injured.Spa area could do with sprucing up. Owners dogs kept in small gym area.More professional customer service required
I liked the big family room. It was clean and furnished nicely. Location was great with lovely views.
For such a big room a king size bed would be wonderful. The bed was very hard. I know everyone is different but I didn't sleep well on it. A little bit expensive as no breakfast in our package. The previous night we paid £20 less in Exeter.
Location , Food ( but presentation needs to be looked at ).
Hand wash in Bathroom not working, Having to ring a number to gain entry. Lack of bin by tea/coffee making, had to bring bin from Bathroom or take items to bathroom, nice as the young waitress was at Breakfast ,the top she had on was dirty and paint? stained. These things may appear small but do add to an enjoyable stay.
