The reception and restaurant staff The quality of the half board meals The beautiful views The cosy lounge
no bath which is disappointing at £129 twin room
Hotel was in a central location for to get around. The area was very beautiful and clean .
The hotel was in my opion was either a 3 star hotel trying to be a 4 star one. The service was very slow , 1 waiter to 14 tables, the waiters were forever apologizing for the delay. The hotel was running on a SHOESTRING BUDGET as far as I could make out. The pool area was under refurbishing, which ment that it could not be used.
Staff friendly and helpful at all times. Room clean and well maintained throughout stay.
Restaurant service at dinner poor. Very long wait between courses. Not sure whether this was a staffing issue or not. Early evening the bar very poorly staffed, relying very much on an already busy receptionist to man the bar. This was all at variance to our previous stays at Hillthwaite. I do know that there have been significant staff changes recently so maybe that has caused the change in service.
Service was excellent food was gorgeous and cleanliness was exceptional and pristine . The staff are very warm and friendly very efficient nothing Ito much trouble, even speaking over the phone to tbe receptionists was a pleasure .
The staff at breakfast wasn't very good we ordered coffee and toast an we were waiting half an hour the breakfast the next day was burnt like it was left from the day before and re heated...we asked for a room with a balcony or a view because it was our honey moon and we got neither.
The facilities and location just perfect
Staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for you especially Jade the receptionist and the Housekeeping staff, very comfortable hotel with excellent food
Pool depth is a bit awkward at the shallow end, not good to swim in, and depth markers are wrong, they are from the poolside not the water depth.
Outstanding views, professional and friendly staff, excellent restaurant. Only a short walk from Bowness centre but feels like its in the middle of nowhere.
Friendly staff , good food
We had a dog with us and there was no where to let the dog have a run in the grounds ,we had to walk quite a bit to let him have a comfort break ,not too good in the pouring rain
The location and the main hotel is beautiful. The views from the hotel are stunning. A very high standard of cleanliness and the staff are lovely.
This was our first holiday in 10 years and we chose it for the pool facilities and the wifi. The kids moaned because the wifi wasn't working properly and we had to keep ringing reception for new codes. My eldest didn't sleep for two nights due to a big dip in a pull down chair bed. Our room overlooked a car park not a garden courtyard as stated when booked and was very dark. The food was undercooked and the kids hated it, hence we booked out a day early. A costly mistake.
Good food. Pleasant staff. Nice views. Quiet position within easy reach of Windermere and Boness.
Room too small. AUN suite bathroom was a shower room.
The staff were excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.
The pool was small. The bar/lounge area was too near reception, it was the main thoroughfare to some rooms and not large enough unless you wanted to go into the conservatory. I believe this area is being remodelled in Dec of 2014 so this should improve on the otherwise excellent hotel. I would gladly recommend a stay here.
Wonderful setting lovely views comfortable rooms Good food We all enjoyed our stay in the lake district and would stay at Hillthwaite House again
climb up to hotel from road but the views are worth the effort. Service at breakfast a little slow.
Lovely room friendly staff great meal and lovely views all in all great stay
Dog friendly room was quiet and easy to access. Friendly reception staff.
Breakfast was average with slow service and most of the cold buffet (cereals and fresh fruit) running out on Sunday.
relaxing, comfortable and friendly, good choice at breakfast
Friendly staff; good food; lovely view.
Room was very warm - no AC or fan provided. Parking is very limited.
This is a bit of a find. Easy walk to the shops and to Bowness, very friendly and helpful staff and the food was a revelation. Really good. we were there to take part in the Great North Swim and asked if we could leave the car there even though we'd checked out. It was no problem. Would definitely go back.
Beautiful location Staff friendly and helpful Clean and comfortable room, excellent room facilities
The location is great, right between Widermere and Bowness. There is a lovely view from the outside sitting area.
We stayed in a pet friendly room and it seemed a bit plain. No bed frame, just a box spring and mattress. There was no air movement, we had to request a fan.
Lovely single room, good meals can be served to room, great views and 10 minute walk to Windermere or Bownness. Would certainly recommend it.
Nothing except the steep drive when walking
Pool and sauna, setting
restaurant- limited menu
