In the Suffolk countryside, between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, this beautiful 15th-century building offers 4-star accommodation and a restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes for its fine food.
Score from 205 reviews Fabulous 8.9/10
Situated in a small town, this inn provides real ale, good home-cooked food from local suppliers, a fine wine menu and live entertainment on a regular basis.
Score from 212 reviews Good 7.5/10
Lovely peaceful setting. Excellent restaurant.
Poor mobile reception
The situation and an atmosphere of a luxurious country house.
Being situated on the 2nd floor.
Friendly staff, lovely surroundings.
Draught beer on fonts but none available. Alcohol a bit pricey.
Good base for seeing this part of Suffolk. Grand old building and country house atmosphere. Very good food, breakfast and dinner. Attentive and helpful staff - one or two waiters were particularly good.
Fading decor & broken sashcord in bedroom; similarly in adjoining passage which was a bit musty smelling.
Restaurant meal was good.
The small room we were given was not the category we had booked. The carpet was dirty, the bed valance was filthy and the bed was covered in dirt which had fallen from an overhead beam. We were given a second room, carpet had stains and we didn't realise that the door did not lock from the inside until the chamber-maid entered without warning. Décor of hotel very tired and in one lounge old coffee stains on windowsill and down radiator, reception like a 1950s railway booking hall and reception staff haughty. Lounge meal very poor standard for the price. They should not advertise free wifi when you have to go right out into the carpark to get a phone signal and wifi hit and miss.
The warm welcome, the friendliness of all the staff and the care and professionalism with which they went about their duties. Nothing was too much trouble. The quality of the food was superb.
After a day out, the long climb to 'Cordelia' was sometimes a struggle.
excellent service wonderful building good food
very hot bedroom not all windows opened poor wifi
Nice location, and rooms.
Reception girl surly. Children not allowed in the dining room for dinner, which seems ludicrous in this day and age. Beds were soft and need replacing.
I slept like a baby
I returned to my room after an evening out to find the bed turned down. I did not like this,
every thing great Location great service hoping to stay again in the future months
We liked the food, the breakfasts and Sunday lunch. We think a spa facility would be a help as there is nothing to do in the immediate area except for the golf club. The staff were very good indeed.
Our room was up in the attic, quite small and very hot at nights. If ever we went back to this hotel it would be primary importance to have an upgraded room on a lower floor.
The food, the decor and ambience.
No toothpaste and wifi intermittent.
Wonderful room with private courtyard. Excellent breakfast, everything freshly prepared, attentive staff.
Large superior rooms with good facilities.
Very poor to non-existent mobile phone coverage in the area, and the rooms at the ends of the hotel have weak Wi-Fi despite boosters in place.
Location very good and very peaceful very relaxing
Room I satay that day was nice but need to redecoration . I notice that room service not much option if I go back there on my own I don't think I will go back there as singel I had been to many hotel on my own I love room service as This one I won't go there by myself
room was far too hot, being located in the roof space but nicely decorated, staff not very friendly, breakfast very basic compared to a best western we stayed in following day.we noted on our booking and a reply was sent back from hintlesham hall that it was our silver wedding anniversary that day ,no body mentioned it,we had nothing in the room even a note or flowers or small box chocolates for my wife,so very poor considering again the best western in peterborough ,where even though a day after our big day the manager found us in the bar and us a round of drinks and chatted for 15 minutes which was very nice.
set in 175 acres absolutely ideal if you have a dog. Lovely old house but with delicious food & service
Wifi wouldnt work!
The hotel and magnificent grounds are very well maintained. Staff were polite and very helpful. Beautiful place to stay and relax. Quality of breakfast was excellent and luxury of a large walk in shower was a bonus.
spacious rooms, lovely setting, delicious breakfast, help full staff, the whole ambiance of the hotel made for an enjoyable stay.
nothing to dislike except the room we stayed in, josephine, could have been made to look less tired regarding decoration and attention to detail regarding state of some of the furniture.
Staff and level of service excellent. Went for dinner and on return bed had been turned down and hospitality tray replenished. Food was excellent with good quality ingredients.
UHT milk! But when we asked for it we were given a jug of fresh milk
We had a cosy room with lots of space, nicely decorated. Friendly staff. A stunning garden in a peaceful surrounding.
The wireless connection was lousy throughout the hotel. No vegan or vegetarian options on the breakfast menu.
Amazing room. Large, luxurious, huge comfortable bed. Very light and bright and also quiet. Gorgeous building and gardens with lots of character. Couldn't fault the staff super friendly an polite. Very classy hotel
The only thing that could improve the hotel in my opinion would be a swimming pool
Loved the fact that the hotel had taken note of my special requests when booking. Our room was fabulous and the staff really looked after us well. We really liked the feel of the hotel grand but releaxed - nice to have a pre-dinner drink by the fire with live piano music.
The A La Carte Menu was disappointing and totally over-priced for what it was, so we were not impressed with the food - especially our main courses at £25 each - 3 small pieces of pork and a "rosti" which was soggy and stodgy. The lounge areas adn dining rooms are lovely but the bar itself lacked ambience in the evening - maybe dim the lights a bit and add some candles for a more romantic feel like the rest of the hotel.
The room was comfortable and well appointed. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The breakfast was first class. The facilities were good. The ambience was excellent.
