Situated in the lively town centre of Hitchin, the Sun Hotel is a charming traditional coaching Inn dating back to the 1500s.

Established since the 15th century, The George at Baldock offers a restaurant and a bar, in the historic town of Baldock. With free WiFi, it is just a 40-minute train journey from central London.
Score from 29 reviews Fabulous
This refurbished hotel with free Wi-Fi was built in the late 18th century. It is located on the edge of the medieval market town of Hitchin.
Score from 90 reviews Good
Quiet location with a lot of history. The staff were fantastic.
Booked to stay here on christmas night for a treat. No atmosphere. Bar very bland and corporate. Only place to sit and have a drink was in the glassed entrance lobby with very corporate sofas and tables. Room tiny, uncomfortable bed, tired bathroom. Some sort of air conditioning/heating fan whirling outside our window most of the night. So disappointed left before breakfast!
Fair price, breakfast quality,
room was rather small
Bed was comfy, nice big room, can turn radiator up and down.
The free wifi was very bad. I could only pick up signal on my iPad from a certain place in the room and not at all on my phone
Loved the location Staff very pleasant Good breakfast
Only one water glass Shower difficult to regulate No coat hangers Wifi not available in room
Location, lobby and dining room. The duty manager listened to my complaints and gave a refund and was extremely pleasant. This hotel should be amazing.
Parking was miles away. The staff who checked us in were disinterested gave NO information about facilities. The room was shabby, the shower tap was stiff. The TV was tiny. We payed £80 way too much. Breakfast ran out of food and second day we were told to get our own tea from a flask
Hotel is right on the town so is convenient for access to shops, restaurants etc. The hotel from the outside looks lovely. Room was large and quite large, was also lovely and warm. The barman Martin was great.
Hotel does not have many facilities, and lacked any atmosphere, no evening food was available on boxing night! Our room needed a bit of TLC as did some public parts of the hotel. Bar prices ok but not much choice. Quilt on bed was poor, very thin.
The bathroom and heating
easy access to surrounding areas
Overall a lovely venue, close to the town centre and in a beautiful setting
Rooms are a bit 'tired' and in need of updating
Architecture of main building. Motel type rooms.
No fresh tea and coffee served. Merely flasks of poor quality coffee.
Character of hotel was enhanced by the blending in of some of the original(ish) parts of the priory
The double mattress was very bouncy! When one of us turned over the other was nearly bounced onto the floor.
The bed sheets had hair on them, the sink was dirty, the mirror in the bathroom had splash marks over it. The guests in other rooms were extremly noisey.
Atmosphere of old buildings and grounds, city centre location, cleanliness and warmth of room, reasonable price.
Unable to get a snack/supper in the evening as the hotel was full of Christmas parties so the other facilities normally available were not to be had - no bar snacks (one packet of open crisps only), no sandwiches, no room service, no newspaper the next morning. It was the same story in town so it would have been good to have been advised on booking so we could have brought our own sandwiches.
The location is good, breakfast was fine though not having a pot of tea is a no,even a premier inn comes with a pot of tea
Our room was unbearably hot, and radiators turned off! Right next to boiler room very loud, had to have windows open, bed slopped at head end giving head rush pillows non existent like cardboard, toilet took @least 10mins b4 u can re flush! No power in shower, previous occupants had set tv alarm this wasn't turned off woke us with a shock @ 8am! Told reception no offer of money back or a upgraded night stay just I'm sorry I will tell manager and b in touch heard nothing and all this on my husbands birthday, not happy :-(
we all know that bedrooms have been used by other people but the art of cleaning means you don't see this...shower head broken, shower hose needs replacing, bath panel, other people hairs...then the tv remote did not work, lighting very poor...staff on reception ok but one was wearing a dirty jacket.
Location Value for Money Breakfast
Really noisy room in the annexe building outside. Room next door had a baby that kept us awake half the night.
Arrived to a freezing cold room at 2pm to be told the heating is on a timer and comes on at 5 pm?? Went to the bar to warm up and eat some good pub grub to be told no food served until 7.30pm?? Not good at all.
The price and breakfast was OK, the staff were very good, the young lady behind the bar was excellent!!
The room is old and dated, the bed linen very grubby, most of all the shower was appalling and dangerous, I did complain, there was on room to move in a shower cubicle and I am not such a big guy, I knocked the mixer tap it was so tight and the water was scolding - very dangerous and health & safety would have a field day!! The lobby area where is supposed to be a relaxing area but it was freezing cold!! I think whilst it is a beautiful building the management really do need to spend a few pounds on correcting some areas and freshening up.
freshly cooked breakfast coffee vending machine in lobby
bar area to very welcoming
Good privacy, excellent breakfast
Breakfast can start from 6:30am instead of 07:00. Poor Shower power.
for the amount I paid, I was surprised at the quality of location. Room need sprucing but all in all, a pleasant stay.
Just a few steps from Hitchin Town Centre, very good breakfast, efficient staff.
While I prefer a firm mattress, the one on our bed way way too hard.
