The Shaftesbury Kensington

The hotel is something of a modern eyesore from the outside, surrounded by much older buildings (mainly hotels) along the rest of the road. The room, a "Deluxe Double" was a lot smaller than I was expecting for the price and while the facilities in it were good for the most part, there were two significant failings: the bed was very hard and lumpy and not at all comfortable, and the shower was very low-pressure and not very effective. We had a good four-night stay in the city, but I don't think we'll be returning to the Shaftesbury Kensington any time soon.

The picture on the internet was nice, but the actual rooms were terrible.

Hotel is dirty, old, and bad service.

Clean & efficient. We had a cheap package and got a room in the basement, which was surprisingly good for a room in the basement but still a room in the basement (without window or natural light). The door did not keep noise on the corridor out well enougn, but otherwise basements are wonderfully quiet.

On arrival the hotel tried to move me to one of their sister hotels in Paddington. They offered complimentery breakfast and taxi there however as a business traveller I book the hotel for location and do not want to moved. Each time I've been to this hotel there is someone at reception complaining

The hotel is close to the tube and to the conference center Olympia

One of the buildings is right next to the railway and therefore very noisy. The room are very small also for London standards. The staff is not honest about things. They preferred I stay in the building across the road and instead of saying so they said there were issues with the rooms in the building I was booked at.

Access to underground, decent accomodations, well appointed room.

Bed was really tiny and poor quality mattress.

Original room had an unpleasant smell. The room I was moved to was noisy. Meal in reataurant was poor.

It was good. The staff was very cordial and though the double room was a little cramped, the bathroom facilities were excellent.

The location to the tube

It took 2 phone calls to reception and 30min wait for towels and no one seemed too worried when I reported a rat running around the corridors. Also the layout of the basement and ground floor rooms are confusing, easy to get a little lost.

Booked deluxe double. Extremely comfortable and very close to Earls Court underground. Spotlessly clean and reception staff very pleasant and efficient. We paid £75 for our one night stay and was more than pleased.

It was a bad experience - on arrival we were told maintenance problems meant no room was available but we would be transfered by taxi to another hotel where a room had been booked. But second hotel denied any booking had been made so checked with a third hotel - again no luck! Having wasted 2 hours returned to the Shaftesbury where no proper explanation was available but surprise surprise a room had been found. Hotel tried to redeem situation by an room upgrade , 30% refund and free breakfast but will not return.
