We loved the location, slightly off the beaten track. Also felt the room was very spacious and the bed enormous. The quality of the food in the hotel was second to none and would certainly like to visit again. The shower was a little on the poor side but the bath was great.

Started off well. Got there and was greeted by friendly attentive staff who were happy to book me in straight away and show me to my room. Had a quick look see, then went for an evening meal. Well, the food is fantastic for what is essentially a pub restaurant. Well cooked, well presented and probably the best tasting chips I have had for a while. Along with a great selection of beers, including real ales and what is obviously a very popular venue for the local population it all looked to be a great choice of hotel. Especially impressed with the staff and the way they presented themselves and their friendly approach. Oh dear Oh dear. The rooms, whilst basic and functional definitely need some work. The one I had had dirty mugs for the supplied tea and coffee, a kettle that doesn't fit under the tap to fill it, so had to be filled by mug. Then there was the decor. The curtains looked as though they had been thrown up straight from a washing machine and were full of creases, as was the duvet cover on the bed, which was just a little to soft for my own taste. The furniture also left a bit to be desired, with the wardrobe looking like it has come from an Ikea 'billy bookcase' collection, as do the doors into the bathroom, but the biggest disappointment, given how good the evening meals are was the breakfast. The menu suggested fresh orange juice, tea and coffee. But the orange juice was pretty obviously not fresh, being more like squash. The coffee was instant 'sticks' which was made using a water boiler in the breakfast room which took about 30 mins to boil. And the food quality, especially the sausages was pretty dire which was a real disappointment.

Good value, decent food, very friendly staff. Close to M1. Room good for the money. Difficult to access, cul de sac location. In a 'neither here, netiher there' type location, requiring a few miles to get anywhere of note.

I liked... The location (good location to the city centre and equally to the countryside) The staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very genuine. Clientelle all seemed friendly too. Room was spacious and very clean and warm and definitely value for money. Food was glorious (particularly the breakfast) I will be returning. Well done to the Hogs Head Hotel - you've got it spot on! There was absolutely nothing to dislike about this hotel
