Excellent stay where we could wash away everyday living and indulge in some downtime. The staff made us most welcome and valued. Cant thank the team enough. Excellent location, food, pampering!

Lovely to revisit after 40 years to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The weather helped of course but the response from the hotel team to our celebration was excellent. The food was very fine. Thank you for all of that.

Friendly staff, excellent room and decor, comfortable. I'd recommend hotel, but not the restaurant on our experience.

Food was over priced and did not live up to pretentions. Too many mistakes - dry fish, undercooked poached egg, v small portions of some things.

Lovely situation with views of the lake and fells. Well-kept grounds with plenty of places to sit and contemplate. Sumptuous bedroom with spacious bathroom. Women on the restaurant staff, if a little over-effusive. Pleasant manager. Open air terrace tables (to which I was not invited).

Brown tap water - rather than sloe gin, cleaned drinking water in the room might have avoided tummy upset. Slow service Sunday night, waiting on uncomfortable dining chairs. Disappointingly plain food; there was a "gourmet menu" but conditions applied. Mingy portions.Another customer got 4 scallops, I only got 3! Vague walk instructions. No brochure for Townend. Unclear room guide e.g. how to book the spa. Credit card surcharge - like Les Miserables, charge extra for the lice!

There is no airconditioner in our room and I imagine it would be unbearably hot during hot summers

View over the lake was wonderful

Not able to eat at the hotel as it was fully booked. If you are staying at a hotel you expect to eat there. I asked about bar meals and the response I got back was I will have to ask the chef to do this specially for you and I am not sure he will as we are very busy we have a wedding party as well tonight. It did not make me feel as is I was a guest but more like an inconvenience. I told them not to bother!! This has put me off booking the hotel ever again.

Highly recommended. Great location with fantastic views of the lake. Friendly and helpful staff, who took the trouble to know why we were there, and made us feel thoroughly welcome. The building has masses of character, and makes you feel comfortable. The room had a real "wow" factor, just down to the quality of fixtures and fittings. This is what a quality hotel should be.

Given the fabulous room, the bathroom (specifically the shower) was very tired. An old, cheap and rather worn plastic shower quite out of keeping with its grand surroundings.

Experienced staff giving a very warm welcome and although under extremely tense surroundings (work on an extension/parking area) an enjoyable few days enjoyed by a pair of mature persons.

    Nothing to dislike!

The view! We did not have time to try the Spa but it was so welcoming and relaxing we wished we were staying longer. The food was superb and the attention to detail in the restaurant first class. The atmosphere in the lounge for pre and post dinner drinks is also really good.

The stairs to the Tower Room are very steep but the view is worth it.

A truly beautiful and luxurious hotel, we enjoyed our stay so much. The tasting menu was also amazing, highly reccomended!

Only small comment is that it would be good to inform guests when checking in that the hot tub needs to be pre-booked.

Everything about the Hotel is first class. From the moment we checked in the staff are so friendly and very professional everything was excellent. It was my birthday and we had chocolates left in the room and also a nice touch there had been placed a hot water bottle in the bed. Never had that before. Yes all in all a first class hotel one to come back to when we are celebrating something special.

    Nothing at all.

The staff were very help and there is a nice relaxed atmostphere. Lovely location

It wrongly states that there is a gym on the website which was a major factor in my booking with the hotel. It was therefore very disappointing to learn that there isnt when I arrived. I also feel that the 1% charge for paying by credit card is unnessary given the room rate and amount your guests are likely to spend when at the venue. While its not a lot of money, its the principal.

Of course great food and wine. We also loved the old world comfort, friendly service, amazing views and lovely grounds.

The bar prices (but I guess it is to be expected in a select hotel).

The view, mind you it was £270 a night!

My wife had a massage which was very disappointing. We both had afternoon tea which for a hotel with a Michelin star was very uninspiring.

The food, The destination with the surrounding countryside.

I have eaten at Holbeck Ghyll on previous occasions and always wanted to stay. I therefore decided to book a w/e for my Partner and I. Partly as a retirement celebration for both and partly for my Partner's birthday. I booked on line and there was no mention of a 'lodge' for accommodation. I reserved a deluxe room with a view over the lake. I was extremely disappointed to be shown to a lodge. Had I wanted a lodge or similar I would have booked a 'holiday camp' The room and surroundings were very nice but not want I expected or wished. I was therefore very saddened and disappointed.
