Loved the location, the gardens and the general feel of the house.

There's absolutely nothing not to like.

The grounds; the building; the staff and the food.

Dinner Menu was the same on both nights. The remote placing of tables to provide privacy was a little 'overdone'. Lack of lift an inconvenience when room is on 3rd. Floor.

    The setting and general ambience.

We specified a quiet room and were given a garden room. There was a wedding reception, which kept us awake until midnight. We were never told about it beforehand. We tried twice to contact reception, without success, and apart from one negative response, all of our subsequent e-mails have remained unanswered. Very, very poor show and very unprofessional. This is a genuine complaint, check it out with the management – if you ever receive a reply.

gym and pool very good, garden room that i stayed in was nice

tv in room tiny, hard work getting fed at night, it was suggested i ate in the bar at the gym, was on my own in there (no staff that night and it shut at 9.30). took an hour to get my dinner...when it turned up it was very nice though!

Staff very attentive accomadating and obliging.

The decor needs a serious revisit. It's shabby and tired, it really lets an otherwise very nice destination down. Mainly the colour variation (or lack of it) with wallpaper, paint and carpets being the main eyesore iritation.

I love to stay at this hotel. I really enjoy the attention to detail that is given to the rooms. The staff make me feel like the most important person they have each time I stay.

The staff are flexible, professional, friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Ripped carpets, water stains, peeling paint, chipped decor, flaking plasterwork and the sense that if the owners care about this hotel - it doesn't show. It is tired and in some places dilapidated...its former glory is, I fear, little more than a shadow of its past. Good time to invest in refurbishing...the garden rooms are more holiday camp than manor house. Shame really...

we could not avoid hearing the couple next door to us having what private eye used to refer to as ugandan relations - we will let you work out what that means...

I enjoy every bit of it, from the time I enter to the time I leave. I have enjoyed the Ninesprings room as much as all of the other rooms I have been in. The gardens have come very well since my last visit. The rooms are so big you can get lost in them. Little touches of class are found throughout the hotel. Staff are very good!!

Not having the opportunity to visit more often.

The staff were very friendly and polite but not intrusive. The bedding in particular was immaculately clean. The dining room was of the standard I would expect for the money paid to stay at this hotel. The food was very well presented and of an excellent quality.

The hotel is a little faded, it could do with newer furnishings. In general the furniture was a little tired. I expected the rooms to be of a higher standard for the money paid (£100 per night).

Location of hotel Room service & food Staff were friendly

The fact we did not get the room we had booked. We had booked a suite but were told we could not have this as we were travelling with our dogs. We were relocated to a garden room, 5 minutes rather unattractive walk from the main hotel. The room nothing like the ones shown on the website, it was very dated and not very clean. The walls were so thin that we could clearly hear every conversation from the adjoining guest room. Having stayed the previous night in a beautiful room at Thornbury Castle, where the dogs were treated as welcome guests, we were very disappointed with Holbrook House. We choose Holbrook House based on various reviews and thought the hotel looked interesting and comfortable. The website states that they accept dogs but did not indicate they are only allowed in the garden rooms (which are not shown on the website).

The staff were really at tentative. I arrived with a heavy cold, and the reception staff asked if I wanted them to provide me with a lemon and some honey to make a warming drink. This they did and made every effort to support me. The room I stayed in was very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.

The dining room was a little dark in the morning, and I think this was only a case of turning up the dimmer switch on the lights. It was probably on a low light from dinner the evening before.

Excellent spa facilities, lovely feel to the whole hotel, lots of character and feels welcoming

Limited menu in the restaurant, I have an allergy to garlic but they couldn't offer me a starter that didn't contain it and only one of the main courses was garlic free. There was no offer of even a simple alternative. We also asked for a side of vegetables to go with our meal but was told that the chef didn't do veg!! Such a shame because the food that they do produce is lovely.... However when you charge £25 for a main course you need to be more accommodating
