comfort of room The staff should be aware to use fewer expletives when guests are present - even when guests are out of sight.

I loved the friendly helpful staff they couldnt do enough. I stay in hotels regularly for business and this is the best in two years. Olde world charm of the historic building and lovely staff. Food good and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Nothing I could fault and say I didnt like although bathroom could be made to feel a little more luxurious.

The staff at Holdsworth House are truly excellent, and the hotel is a great place to relax and eat well as well as a splendid base for enjoying what the North West has to offer.

We liked the overhaul feel and look of the hotel. The dinning/breakfast rooms and gardens were delightful. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable, but the furniture was very out dated and the room was in need of a total redecoration. I would have given our a room a 3 star rating just.

The history and jacobean design. The comfortable suite, the cosiness of the communal areas. A la catre menu limited as I struggled to find something that I liked.

Friendly staff. Buyer beware! I booked to stay in a suite, and on this website, and on the hotel's web-site, the bed was described as a 'luxurious double.' Therefore, I was expecting a large double bed. However, the beds in the suites are not even double beds, but 3/4 double beds, or 'Queen' size beds as they are officially known. Great if you were a member of The Borrowers... I informed reception who were very helpful and moved us to a smaller room with a much larger bed, but they charged us full price for the smaller room. I felt so disappointed that I had been 'ripped-off' since what was a surprise for my wife had been ruined, that we did not go to breakfast, we just got up and left the hotel and had breakfast elsewhere. I am airline crew and spend many-a-night in hotels, and feel that this accommodation is overpriced. After-all, the main function of a hotel is to provide a good nights sleep, and providing a 3/4 size double for two people is a total fail. Sadly when staying in the area, I will be finding alternative accommodation.

The food and the character of the hotel Possibly due to the two weddings happening on the weekend, we felt like we were invisible to the staff. There is also room to improvements (our room did not have a fixed shower) that are essestial commodoties in a 4 star hotel.

The setting and the sevice. The staff are friendly although due to a wedding being held there the bar was not always staffed and we had to wait to be served. The room was certainly 'snug' and the matress was lumpy. The continental aspect of the breakfast was only adequate and the fruit salad looked like dish water.

Overpriced and lacked real quality. Staff appeared disorganised. Noisy dining area for breakfast-children running around unsupervised. Was seated at a table that had not been cleaned and the waiter started to lay our cutlery on a dirty table.Hotel in a poor location, basically in the middle of a housing estate. Would not return or recommend.

Great hotel, great food, fantastic wine choice no problem recommending this hotel. Have stayed many times and will stay again primarily for the restaurant as the food is divine. Did I mention the food! Rooms slightly dated (but it is an old hotel) could do with modern TV, movies stations etc. Otherwise great.
