Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.

Staff were all very friendly. Breakfast was excellent and there was a good choice of cereals, fruit juices and cooked breakfast; made to your request. The Italian chef Pasquale was great fun also! Tea and coffee making facilities were generous. Overall a very pleasant stay and would recommend it.
A couple of mornings at breakfast, we arrived a busy times and either had to wait for a table to be cleared, or had to split our family of 4 onto 2 x tables. Not a huge problem, but the experience could have been improved by preventing that. Intended as helpful feedback, rather than criticism.
The breakfast is excellent. The chef is a very friendly guy.
Friendly staff. Parking facilities. Close to City Centre. Enjoyable breakfast.
Having to climb three flights of stairs to our room which was ok for one night but would not wish to stay longer as there is no lift.
Easy walk from the railway station, friendly and helpful greeting on arrival, comfortable and clean rooms and an easy walk into city. My husband, son, granddaughter and I traveled by train from Newcastle, arrived at York at 11.00am, walked to Holgate Bridge guest accom, booked in, unpacked, quick wash and brush up and walked into heart of city by noon. Breakfasts were lovely and nicely served.Well recommended. Many thanks
The position of the guest House was very good to site see York.
Breakfasts were nice, and beds were comfortable. Staff very pleasant as were the people of York. Nice to have a private bath with a modern shower right across from room. Very efficient and quick breakfast service with large selection of additional items like cereal. Really helped start the day out right.
Only drawbacks were waiting for staff at reception as they were also working in B&B next door. Room was very warm at night as we had to close the storm window to keep out street noise. Had to request hot water to be turned on in the shower.
the staff were very friendly Guesthouse was clean and warm Beds were comfy Breakfast was lovely
Location and comfortable bed in room
Not being shown to room Not aware of breakfast choices/ shown items for breakfast jams etc Wet shower mat on arrival No soap to wash hands used shower gel complementarys for two days! Not able to use WiFi Tea and biscuits not replaced daily only having one cup of tea each for a day Not informed what to do if a fire was to happen Not asked a choice of how to have your breakfast
staff friendly and helpful. good breakfast. beds very comfortable. plenty of parking..
no where to put toiletries in bathroom as shelf very tiny.
broken screen in the bathroom and other broken facilities. Room too small.
The manager was friendly and helpful, the location was perfect for my needs. My room was very small but adequate for a single night. Fair value for such a busy hotel. Very useful car park to the rear of the hotel and only a short walk into the city centre.
I had to open the window to let some air in, due to it being a small room. This led to quite a bit of external noise, particularly in the morning. There were some black marks on the bedding, although it appeared to be clean.
Perfectly located for walking from the station and then back I nto the city centre.
The road was quite noisy in our room and if your aren't used to road noise (which I'm not) you notice it. It didn't stop me sleeping though! Apart from the pedestrian crossing beeping a bit...
Clean and comfortable, very affordable. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
Breakfasts were lovely. Location very good not far from the city centre itself with a bus stop close by to the accommodation with the number 1 bus running every 15 minutes into town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Eager to please and gave Dad an upgrade after a mixup with our booking. Overall very happy with the accommodation.
Unfortunately no lifts and lots of stairs to negotiate. The room itself could do with a spruce up but was kept clean enough.
The staff were very friendly and chatty. The room was great and very nicely decorated. Really easy 20 minute walk into the centre of York
Good size rooms with excellent facilities. We had brought a couple of bicycles with us and these were stored overnight for us in the large locked shed at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and lots of it! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely book again.
Comfortable room, great breakfast
The chef was the highlight of the stay, he amused all the guests throughout the breakfast and had my 5 year old giggling all morning. He was the most memorable part of the mini break to her.
B&B needs a bit of a face lift and a spring clean, room was quite dusty and you sank into the middle of the very old mattress. Windows need replacing but it was shabby and nice enough.
Friendly staff, easy to walk to town, parking place on the back, 15 minutes walk to the town.
Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent communication. Very comfortable room. Fantastic breakfast Great location to city centre Parking available
Not used to sleeping near roads so could hear traffic
service was good
having to go up 4 flights of stairs
nice qiiet room, lovely breakfasts very friendly and helpful
shower didn't get above warm, and a lot of mould on shower ceiling.
The location was excellent for visiting all Yorks attractions. Staff helpful with local knowledge.
Breakfast in the basement was dark and chilly with no atmosphere. Bedroom noisy from main road.
No negatives to think of
Bed was comfortable. With this staff, it was as if we had a friend in York. They were welcoming upon arrival, came out to help with the bags, taught us best places to go, and made a great breakfast in a super clean kitchen. We were even allowed to use the kitchen to make up our sandwiches do the road.
Our room didn't feel quite clean, dusty around the edges and the bedside lamp was broken. The pillows were old and flat. Glad I brought my own travel pillow. Feels like details in the rooms could be attended to better.
