Unfortunately on booking we were not aware that the swimming pool would be closed during our stay which we would have liked use during the stay.
The rooms are spaceous, modern, clean, and very quiet (the hotel is located outside town). The beds are very comfortable with a selection of soft/hard pillows (I booked the standard twin bed) Dinner and breakfast were well prepared and the staff prompt and polite. I liked the extensive sports facility including pool and weight lifting equipment. It is definitely recommendable if one has his own car around.
1. The hotel is not inside or within walking distance from Cambridge town. I did not have my own car and I had to pay 12 pounds by taxi (each way). I was not informed by the reception whether the hotel runs a minibus service so I suppose it does not.In addition to the cost, next time I would consider the implication on planning and restriction on movement.
Check in was straightforward and the receptionist was polite and informative. The executive room was quiet, well laid out and had everything we needed. Breakfast was tasty and continually refreshed so nothing looked or tasted old.
On checking out, the receptionist was perfunctory to the point of asking whether there were any issues without even looking at us. I reminded her that in order for that enquiry to seem genuine, she should try to make eye contact.
The Iacuzzi and swimming pool included with free access is a nice touch. The hotel is far from town, you need a taxi or your own car, but it's quite and relaxing.
Possibility to include only 2 devices to the free wifi. Internet was down when I was there. Staff is not particularly caring nor smiling.
Nice hotel, good location
£5 an hour for pathetically slow wifi
* helpful reception staff * got free wi-fi by signing upto loyalty scheme * plenty of parking * nearby bus if you didn't want to pay for a taxi to the city centre
* breakfast was a "busy" affair
Convenience Friendliness Bar
Room was freezing and heating didn't work Despite telling reception where I was because I was expecting a taxi, they told the tax driver (10 minutes later) that they couldn't find me
Very comfortable beds, we paid to upgrade. Not sure how the beds in the executive rooms compare with those in a standard room.
Poor quality of food in the restaurant the first evening we were staying. all the food appeared regenerated, it looked and tasted disappointing.
Upgrade to executive room offered for a fair price
Toilet didn't flush well & seat was wobbly
friendliness, helpfulness of staff, qualityof menu and service in dining room, dealing with emergency(power cut on the saturday evening)
Pool closed for entire week. Inconsistent staff messages.
Was planning to have a nice relaxing swim in pool but upon arrival was told it was closed. Also was short hanged in the bar and didn't realise until we was in Cambridge, tried calling hotel, impossible it get through !
Terrible site, grim and miserable. My room was in the 'executive' wing....what this really means is that I had to walk half a mile from reception and up two flights of stairs with bags and large case, with NO LIFT in the place whatsoever!
Ease of booking and good layout of hotel. Good selection for breakfast Good room temperature controls with fresh air option
Looked a little tired for a Holiday Inn Corridors not heated Noisy and crowded at breakfast
Despite requesting a double bed we were given a twin room, but staff quickly changed our room. Breakfast was very good and staff were very friendly and professional.
It was a really long way from our room to reception and dining area. The swimming pool was closed all weekend.
We ate in the restaurant and the meal was terrible, served on a piece of slate rather than plates
Every thing went well with the stay my partner spends lot of time in Papworth Hospital as she not well so hotel was fantastic place for us to stay thank you so much & will be seeing you in new year
Size and comfort of the room The staff in the restaurant were excellent particularly the manager The choice at breakfast
We were extremely disappointed to find the spa facilities shut earlier than advertised on their web ,even on the day of our arrival, as this was the specific reason for selecting this hotel, knowing that we'd have to pay the taxi fares in and out town. If we had been informed earlier we would have chosen a hotel in the city
Location was good, staff were excellent, breakfast yummy!
Comfortable room, good breakfast
Not impressed that the swimming pool - one of the reasons for opting for this hotel over others - was too full to accomodate us on Sunday morning. I had to replace a lightbulb above my bed (replacing it with one from a sidelamp). Slightly surprising that nobody had noticed before me that it wasn't working!
Breakfast Reception staff v helpful
The staff were the best thing about the hotel though to be fair everything was good except the length of time we had to wait for a meal on the Friday evening
Some of the other guests. Two of us in different parts of the hotel were woken in the night by drunken guests. in one case the noise went on for two hours between 2-4 am. This is not acceptable and we felt that the issue was not resolved properly at the time or when it was brought up again in the morning
Room was clean and comfortable, staff were helpful.
pillows on the bed were not great, they are too small and soft, would make great ear muffs. Had to fold pillows over to make them firmer.
