Having seen the web site I was looking forward to our stay whilst we attended the northumberland plates race meetings. We were very disappointed indeed. The bed was comfortable but small and was placed almost against a wall in quite a large room. The furniture was very dated. The bathroom was very small as were the towels. No shower cap for Ladies to save their hair do.The worst thing was we were unable to study the "form" as the old television offered teletext and other services but these could not be accessed or were not available. . The breakfast was the best thing about the hotel, it was self service and the quality and quantity were very good.WE Will never use holiday inn again! If the website had stated "no frills" then we would not have made a booking. It was not a cheap hotel and certainly not value for money. Mary Cooke Norfolk.

I liked the location, which was perfect for my needs (working with a local business in Brunswick Village). The room was very comfortable, and I liked the 'pillow menu' which was a nice touch, though the pillows already provided were fine for me personally. Breakfast was superb, always a good benchmark for any stay. Food and choice of food was generally excellent, though on the high cost side I felt. Same with the bar pricing (£2.90 for a glass of Pepsi - not even Coke!). Staff were excellent all round - cannot fault them. Good provision of power sockets and temperature controls - also a good benchmark for me as I do a lot in my room. There isn't anything I didn't like, though it would have been nice to have conditioner as well as shampoo (I didn't read the label properly and ended up putting bath gel on my hair after the shampoo!), A flannel is always appreciated, though I generally carry my own now, and there was no enclosed wardrobe space, where I like to put my case and belongings when I stay for more than one night. I didn't find a drinks vending machine which would have been nice as an alternative from paying bar prices and taking them to my room, though there was an ice dispenser near the snack vending machine.

It was very convenient in terms of location. It was far too busy. There were two weddings on that day we stayed which made dinner, the bar and especially breakfast extremely overcrowded. However the hotel did offer reimbursement of breakfast as there was a queue of over 25 people

Reasonably priced by comparison with Hilton. Reception and bar staff were pleasant as were breakfast staff on Sunday. The female on Saturday was not helpful. As above, the attitude of the young woman on Saturday and having to make meal arrangements around the movements of OAPs paying far less than us! Also when my wife asked for an aspirinn we had to go to the local garage!!

Convenient location for our requirements; enjoyed breakfast. Room decor a little 'tired', especially bathroom. Tv didn't work. 1 nights stay was probably enough.

We were attending a wedding in Earsdon and the reception nearby. We travelled up the A1 from Wetherby and were travelling onto Edinburgh the next day on the A1. The hotel was ideally suited for us, and everything was first class.

Everything about the hotel was excellent, the welcome on reception to the bar staff everything was good No instructions for air con unit and the room (133) was absolutely sweltering and uncomfortable. Ran out of pizza on Saturday night at 2350 but this was only a minor point

Lovely location, friendly staff, very helpful and genuinely interested in ensuring customers are happy. As I stay in hotels often through my work, I am able to say quite honestly this was one of the best hotels I have used in the last 3 yrs, next time I come Ill bring my bathing suit lol and find more time to enjoy the facilities on offer. Supplies of sugar and milk were poor in the room, yet coffee sachets were plentiful. I am aware we could have asked at reception but, it wouldve been nice to have more generous supply in room. After 4 hrs travelling, and no lift in the hotel I didnt feel like fetching any from reception, and I certainly would not have bothered room service for something as trivial.
