The room was ok but the food was abysmal beyond words. I did not realise that in 2012 restaurants were serving such appalling food at such high prices ( just over £40 for dreadful pizzas, the only item on the menu we could face, and two glasses of cheap plonk). There was no where else to eat within walking distance without a booking.

The location is good; within walking distance of York City and there is also a good bus service. The Holiday Inn offers good value for money. The breakfasts we have always found consistently good.

Convenient location. Good breakfast We booked the hotel because it offered a smoking room, specially for my 93 year old pipe smoking father in law. No one bothered to inform us the hotel had discontinued smoking rooms six months ago. Nor did booking.com. Would never have booked it had we known.

Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Very good breakfast choice. Bed duvet on my single (one of twin) bed was a bit small and thin. Wi-fi should be free or a nominal charge - I know business colleagues who avoid hotels that do not have complimentary wi-fi or free access to computers in the foyer.

My partner and I were just having a peaceful break before the hectic Christmas period. On arrival we were met by a lovely smile from the lady behind the reception, she was very helpful and gave us all the information we could have possibly wanted. Our room was lovely and everything we expected after reading reviews about the hotel. We spent two nights and for one of them my partner was poorly, he accidentally broke a glass in the bathroom and on telling the staff they were very helpful and considerate of our situation. In the write up about the room it stated that there would be complimentary chocolate and water, there were no chocolates. Also stated that there would be bathrobes, there were none. These things did not spoil our experience and will definitely visit again and recommend it to our friends and family.

The receptionist was very polite and helpful on arrival. The room was clean, light and airy. The bathrrom was as expected, clean with fresh towells. We really liked the outlook from the window. Parking was ample and we enjoyed our stay. Whether we choose this hotel next time will be dependant on what I have said below. We thought the breakfast area was a bit disorganised, having to wait for fresh food to be brought out. The breakfast plates were well past there best with wear marks on most. We found this a little off putting although the food was plentiful and tasty. The other reason is that we thought this hotel was a little closer to York town center and you need a bus, car or taxi to take you there. We estimated it was a "good" 2 mile walk into the town.

The hotel is in a good location, being close to the racecourse and within easy reach of York centre, plenty of parking spaces and in delightful surroundings. W have stayed twice overnight in the last month, and were impressed by the extremely courteous and helpful staff. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the restaurant has a good breakfast menu and is light and airy. Although there seemed to be many visitors staying at the hotel we had no problems with noise. Highly recommended.

Its location to the racecourse We found that the breakfast was of very low standard, the coffee being totally undrinkable, the price of the room was too high.

Although we arrived early, the reception staff were extremely helpful and offered us one of the two rooms we had booked so at least we could put our luggage away. Reception staff again were helpful in respect of how to get into York centre to visit the Xmas market, which buses to catch etc. Hotel room was clean and comfortable. Break more than adequate.

Very disappointed. Booked an executive room for £150 a night which was of a similar standard to a travel inn room. It was not what I would class as an executive standard at all. The bathroom was so small you couldn't swing a cat, no full size bath. There was a hole in the duvet. There were shutters on the windows instead of curtains that rattled all night due to the high winds. This is the most money I have ever spent on a hotel room for 1 night and it is the worst standard of room that I have ever stayed in. We payed extra for a racecourse or countryside view which from our room was a tree and a church (I would not call that countryside or racecourse). I would definately not stay here again.

This is the first time we have stayed in a Holiday Inn but it will certainly not be the last. We stayed for one night for my sons graduation and from arriving to leaving we were very impressed with everything the hotel offered, even to the directions for the rail museum. Once again thank you for a very enjoyable stay and no doudt we will see you again. Mr A Ord &family. every thing perfect

“Nothing to fault about this hotel. All staff were great. Friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Great room, great breakfast and the Toby Carvery adjacent was a real bonus. Same standard of excellent staff and food there too. The location was superb...Easy access, both to York City Centre (Iused the Park and Ride at Monks Cross..close to the hotel, about 3 minutes drive. And easy access to both countryside and coast. Scarborough from the hotel is about an hour (maybe less).. No hesitation in recommending this hotel. Lovely quiet rooms to the rear.” Robert, Lincoln |
