Pleasant and quiet location. Public rooms good but open fire would have been appreciated.
Bedroom and bathroom very dated and need urgent overhaul. They were not very clean, carpet, skirting boards, grouting and tiling unclean.
Convenient location for our purpose
Room had peeling wall paper due to damp, bathroom & shower rubbish
Location was good. Only used the room as I was out in the evening so didn't experience the dining or bar.
Room was a little dated and could use some TLC.
The architecture of the original building
The building added onto original was ugly, badly built and not maintained. The bath was uneven underfoot.the lamp wiring was dangerous. Smell of damp. Plaster coming off walls. Breakfast poorly organised. Staff didn't know who ordered what. One couple were waiting for an hour for their breakfast.
Room comfort Dining room breakfast service Easy coming and going car parking General friendliness and help
Bathroom good but water supply poor and toilet/lighting needs service Room not serviced on day 4 when we arrived back late!
Staff were pleasant.
More isolated than I expected; definitely need a car. Wi-fi in room very poor.
the hotel outside and downstairs was nice and the staff were great.
The corridors leading to the rooms were very poorly decorated and run down. The room itself was fine but not worth the full price.
Nice large bed. Quiet rural location. Friendly staff. Character-full house.
General decor, it's all in need of refurb. General cleanliness of room. Mix-up of bill on checkout.
The location of the hotel, very clean and comfortable bed.
The outside of the hotel was very unkept ,with rubbish in view and empty beer bottles lying about.the corridors up to the room were tacky and needed a good clean and paint. The room was in need of an update , the breakfast room was chaotic, having to keep getting up to refill tea cup and to get butter and jam also needed a paint. In general apart from the reception area the whole hotel was tacky.
We enjoyed our stay very much and were very satisfied with the value for money accommodation.
While running a bath in the morning, the cold water ran out completely and I was not able to have bath as water was too hot, very dangerous !!
Hollin hall looks impresive from the outside. The staff looked the part serving wedding breackfast
Room 36 stank off damp .which you allready know hence the aufull airfreshner. Iwas going to be charged more than 90 pounds .you changed it because I asked why ?.the room dirty bathroom stank off urine. No hairdryer . Toilet seat dirty. I left it cleaner than I found it and had to pay .
Location lovely tasty breakfast occasion went smoothly and seemed organised . Pleasant staff
For the price I paid everything was outstanding, room, comfort, peaceful, quiet, breakfast was excellent, Shall use again.
Bookings .com failed to contact hotel with my reservation, fortunately hotel went out of their way compensate
Some staff were good but major difficulty was NO PHONE out calls possible. Location meant I could not walk safely to a phone. To stay here one must have own phone and lap-top
Taxi needed for every outing as it is in a semi-rural setting and not as advertised' Also I was on 3rd floor and to use the stairs as to use the lift had to negotiate dark walk through messy function rooms.
Setting in a semi rural countryside. Quality of restaurant good.
Shower was either scalding hot or cold, no in between., symptomatic of an aging building. Shower head, although new, gave inadequate water flow. Wedding receptions crested noise disruption.
Beautiful views, nice breakfast and a good location.
Could have been cleaner in the bathroom.
Poorly trained / understaffed Waiting 15+ mins for bar service Rooms done to a very poor standard- shoddy workmanship, dirty and tired. Has the potential to be a beautiful hotel and wedding venue but at the moment is a great let down which is a shame.
In daylight the hotel looks good from the outside and is nicely located in pleasant countryside. The breakfast was excellent and the dining staff were pleasant and helpful.
Hotel signage unlit at night so took ages to find. When I did find it I was told it was booking .coms fault and there was no food as it was 9.40pm and the kitchens closed at 9.30pm so I had to drive into Macclesfield to get a meal. There was no television handset in the room and I couldn't raise reception by phone. Having walked the obstacle course to reception to ask for one the night porter just said 'well I can't take one from another room'! He did bring one 20 minutes later and just gave it to me at the door and left. It didn't work and again I couldn't raise reception by phone so I just went to bed. When I arrived and every time I came or went through it the Hotel entrance was surrounded by smokers and you had to enter via a pall of smoke. Inside the hotel is dated in décor and whilst there has obviously been redecorating taking place it is not to a great standard.
Food was nice.
From start to end my experience was poor.I asked to be moved rooms due to lots of mould and damp, general dirt and grime. Moved rooms into a slightly better room but cleaniness again was shocking. Dried blood on the sink, had to place a towel in the bath to have a shower, dust and pubic hairs on skirtings and floor. Ordered food, it arrived and was the wrong food.breakfast came and when I returned the tray was left on my bed evem tho the bed had been made. The next day I ordered breakfast and it was brought up without a cup and spoon, went to use the ones in the room and they were really dirty with old coffee. Checked out and I was over charged for a two course meal I never ate. I was hopeful it was going to be nice because I would of returned in the future when I am up on business. Rooms are definately an after thought to the wedding venue.
Carpet in my room was old, bit dirty and torn in places. The room itself looked dated and in need of a lick of paint!!
Very shabby, run down & smells of stale alcohol in the reception area. It was noisy due to a wedding taken place & we were awoken on several occasions during the night. All for the whopping price of £94!
Nice location and nice entrance/bar/dining room. Breakfast was very good.
The room was in poor condition. It seems that the photos on the website are only for the rooms they have refurbished and the suites. The one we were given was tiny, old and not very clean.WiFi didn't work. The carpet was quite dirty and the bathroom too. There was also a wedding when we stayed and it was very noisy until about 1am which was quite annoying.
Comfortable beds. Nice and quiet despite a wedding being on each night we stayed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff actually showed us a quicker way to get to reception.
Hotel name in very small print above the restaurant name. Very hard to spot and we were not the only guests to say that to reception. The room was in desperate need of decoration. The shower head moved from side to side when the shower was in full flow.
The hotel has had a lot of attention paid to the public areas.
In fact that the downstairs is lavishly decorated feels like a downside because it is obvious that the hotel make its money on weddings and guests themselves have been largely ignored. The room we had was nothing like the photos - the hotel's own guest booklet tells you how there was a massive extension put in of 50 rooms in the 1980's, and in our room it seemed like no work had been done since then. Instead of the painted white brickwork in the photos, we had exposed bricks and wiring that was hanging off the wall. All fittings were dirty and jaded and didn't make much sense. For instance, the only mirror in the main room was horizontal at waist level. The shower did not work at all, it literally fell out of the tiny 80's showerhead onto the tap below, instead of outwards and the water did not get hot - we didn't shower, as it was not possible. There was a lot of noise from outside the rooms because of the poor quality of the walls which were made of cardboard-like material. In addition, the kettle tasted like someone had put chemical cleaner in it and the room had not had proper attention when being cleaned - we found an empty whiskey bottle in the drawers, there were hairs all over the bath and the tiles in the bathroom had been wiped down leaving smears of dirty watermarks. These rooms need some serious attention in order to not leave you feeling utterly uncared for. The manager gave us 50% off the cost of our room because of the poor quality of our stay, but you don't want to have to have a fight over payment in a hotel that should just be clean and have a decent level of care and fittings.
I enjoyed the location. It was easy to access the Peak district and also other areas around Manchester. The staff was friendly and helpful, despite the 4 weddings that took place during my stay.
The hotel is old and the food is over priced for the quality and amount it costs to stay there. It is fortunate that I enjoy baths as the shower head was broken.
