The food was good the room was clean greated by the owner who went out of his way to be friendly and helpful. The location was not very good and not in close proximity to anything. Very untidy area.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were well decorated and comfortable. the continental breakfast was adequate but uninteresting - had to pay the full cooked breakfast price for scrambled egg.

Room was spacious and the sea view pleasant. Food and service in the Restaurant very good. Room looking a little tired. Would benefit from redecoration. Bathroom particularly would benefit from being updated.

I dealt with two members of staff during my stay and they were extremely helpful and polite. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the bathroom looked like it had not long been refurnished.

A very good, old-fashioned hotel, which makes a refreshing change from the modern 'chains'. The staff were welcoming, and the food was excellent considering there were so few guests. The location was good and our room had an excellent view. Parking was good, although it may become more challenging when functions are taking place at weekends. We stayed midweek and it was great for trips into Liverpool by train.

It has a fine location, near the New Brighton seaside and it is possible to get to Liverpool in less than 15 minutes, by car.

The reception staff were lovely. The room was spacious and we loved the 4 poster bed and the overall cleanliness and facilities. The hotel was well situated and quite grand with all its olde world charm and original features. Breakfast was dry and quite poor.

This was a friendly comfortable hotel which was quiet, traditionally built so no problem with paper thin walls of some new hotels. Excellent location for the centre of Ipswich and good off-road parking. Slight criticism was that the wash hand basin was in the bedroom area outside of the wc and Shower Room: not a problem really

The owner, so friendly, helpful. As a lone lady staying in the area due to business, was made to feel very welcome. I stay in hotels a lot and often find going to the lounge or restaurant not too nice when you are on your own. Not here, chatted to other guests as such a nice relaxing atmosphere. I must praise the owner, very hardworking, polite and will defintely go again, on a personal basis with my husband. The hotel itself has so much character. Location is fantastic so close to rail links into liverpool £3.25 return into Liverpool can you beleive that no need to take car in. Close to the sea. Just perfect, please stay you will not be dissapointed

We booked the Hollins Hey as we had travelled up from Suffolk to visit friendsin Wallasey, close to New Brighton. The hotel surpassed our expectations in every way, location, sea views, friendly staff and comfortable beds. Cannot comment on the restauarant as we did not in fact use it, our friends took us out for dinner and we did not stay for breakfast, but would not hesitate to return or recommend to others. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

The Hotel was great! Nicely furnished with old style sofas and tables. Welcoming staff, cosy atmosphere and good position 'cause it's very near the station. I recommend it to anybody who would like to spend a relaxing holiday in a quite elegant environment!

Nice room and lovely bathroom, all very clean and very comfortable bed. Quiet residential surroundings but handy for underground train to Liverpool and extensive promenade on the Wirral penisular with views of the Irish sea. Some redevelopment in the area and view from room possibly needed to be partially screened in some way as it looked onto a derelict site. Other rooms may be different.

The hotel was lovely - very clean and decorated in Victorian style (which I like). There was a noise (pump/boiler/central heating?) that went on and off all night and kept me awake. Very unfortunate as it spoiled an otherwise perfect hotel for my requirements.

“The location and tranquillity are just two of many aspects which greatly enhanced our stay at the hotel. Moreover, the staff were very friendly and helpful and it was clear that there was a genuine interest in looking after their clientèle. Our room was very nice and the modern design mixed in with an element of antiquity worked very well. The bathroom was spacious, light and always very clean. The breakfasts were lovely and the chef is quite a character (again: a genuine interest in ensuring that the customer was satisfied was displayed). A very good stay and well worth a visit!” Matthew, Stockholm |
