I liked the friendly people and I loved the cliff railways.
I liked the friendly people and I loved the cliff railways. The 2p amusement arcades were fun too.
My highlights:
Going on the miniature railway in north bay
Trip on the pirate ship where we saw a dolphin
The two working cliff lifts (funicular railways)
Fish and chips
Lots of ice cream
The castle

Scarborough has sone lovely buildings and history.
Scarborough has sone lovely buildings and history. The beaches are nice but weather was bad so they were closed due to high tide flooding street at harbour.
Lots of places shit so we struggled to find places to eat breakfast not many cafes open, evenings not many places to eat as lots shut early as seems out of season. The Scarborough arms pub we found near the apartment was the best, great food and beer, lovely building and atmosphere. Best food in town.
High street lots of shops and pretty bustling. Police about so felt safe.
Just found did most of it in 2 days so long enough for us

Scarborough is a traditional British seaside resort with 2 fantastic beaches to enjoy. There is so much to do in both areas, the North Bay beach is less commercial with beautiful and colourful beach huts and a few fantastic restaurants and bars and places to get ice cream. At the very end of this bay is the Sea Life Centre which is a great day out, especially if the weather isn't great. Peasholm Park is also on the North side where you can enjoy a walk or a trip on a dragon pedalo and just over the road is the Open Air Theatre. Take a walk or a bus around Marine Drive to access the vibrant South Bay where you'll find a lovely harbour, amusements and another beach. Plenty of varied places to eat and drink. Be aware of tide times as the tide comes nearly all the way in (sometimes all the way in and over!) so this can influence your beach day! This review just scratches the surface of things you can do! Plus Bridlington is just a short drive down the coast and Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay up the coast - the North Yorkshire Moors and all the wonderful things you can do there makes Scarborough a great base to explore the area!

We loved the arcades/amusements.
We loved the arcades/amusements. Fish & chips on the beach, fresh donuts. It was very busy when we went so this impacted our enjoyment. Enjoyed Marisco lounge & capplemans chippy (both great gluten free options)

Scarbrough is a secret haven.
Scarbrough is a secret haven. There is something for everyone. Arcades, shops and cafes close to the beach. A bus ride from south to the north of Scarbrough. Peasholm Park at the north bay has lovely walks, cafe and boat rides. The town is ten minutes walk to the beach. Tramway down to the beach at the South Cliff. South cliff has beautiful gardens and walks.

Great place to visit and I love the fact you can get on the trams up and down from the beachfront seaside part of the town to the main shopping part of the town its very well set out with a good selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Scarborough has outstanding scenery and to take a different approach to that scenery they have boat trips which are very reasonably priced and great crew. Thers a lot to do in Scarborough there's a small fair picturesque walks a castle arcades and many attractions including a sea life centre, peasholme Park and a open air theatre, close by is Robin hoods Bay and above there is whitby and York is only a short tide away on the train making Scarborough a great location.
The location and value of this property are the main features. This was my 4th time staying there and Steve has taken this over from his lovely Mother 5 months ago...you can see he has started the refurbishment and is going through the hotel a bit at a time. The lower rooms have been done, but the top floor hadn't as yet, but Rome wasn't built in a day and I wish him all the best.
Parking is only 10.00 for 24 hrs and the breakfast is worthy of staying put, rather than venturing out
All the best for the future and I will return
The Red Lea is an excellent hotel. It's location makes it an easy walk to Scarborough town centre and to the beach. There is no problem with parking, as there are plenty of on street parking spaces in front of the hotel.
The reception staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
Excellent breakfast, with friendly, helpful staff in the dining room.
I would highly recommend and will definitely book again.
Far exceeded my expectations after reading previous reviews in here. It is by far the only decent Britannia hotel we have stayed in (deffo avoid The Grand in Scarborough). The location fir Scarborough Open Air Theatre was perfect. The staff were lovely. The room was very clean, & although the double bed was tiny it was very comfy! Yes the hotel building is old & could do with maintenance but the staff are doing their best!
I booked the grand Hotel not expecting much as I've been before but it was only for 1night and its my sons favourite hotel in scarborough. Check in was quick no waiting. Reception has been renovated. The bedroom was huge, clean, it has also been renovated. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Happy with price we paid £74 for a family room and it's ideal location close to town centre and beach
Amazing renovation on a staple hotel/building in scarborough. I truly think this is the best location in town, the views of the spa bridge and sea are unmatched. The amenities are vast and all brilliant, room comfortable and really nicely decorated, bed very comfy. The breakfast was great including vegan croissants! We had dinner in the restaurant one evening which was brilliant.
Our 3rd time here, we would never stay anywhere else when we come to Scarborough, it's perfect for my family. They think of everything. Steven, Margaret and their son are all delightful, so friendly and helpful. Ashburton House is firmly in my children's memories, and my son says it's his best holiday. Which makes me laugh as he has been to universal also this year.
As we were staying in a ground floor apartment, and not a hotel breakfast wasn’t included. We had to walk 5 minutes down the road, to a cafe for breakfast which was lush.
We liked the fact that the ground floor apartment, was a short walk from Scarborough’s open air theatre as we were attending the Tom Jones concert for the second time at that venue.
I didn't have to meet the owner as there's a system where the door code and then the safe box containing room keys are given in order to allow you access to the hotel and room.
It has the best view in Scarborough, and real good location, for a pretty respectable price.
Also: good amount of tea, coffee, sugar and milk in rooms.
The location was central as the name suggests and it was great for getting around Scarborough. The staff were very friendly and did their best when interacting. The Hotel looks like its in transition and the kitchen was having a refurb and although a little dated it was clean and comfortable.
The hotel is ideally situated to get into Scarborough. Town centre and beach front within easy reach from the hotel. The hotel has a great charm to it. The rooms were spacious and had tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms were clean bright and airy
Jeremy and Sir Ian found The Weston Hotel in Scarborough UK to be one of the best hotels in the world. Elegant, refined in the public rooms and the bed rooms with properly cooked and beautiful breakfasts for six consecutive days.
First small single room had sunny disposition on first floor, two reception men were kind enough to move me to another double room that was spacious. The hotel was opposite a sports bar and only a 15 minute walk to the beach.
The hotel was like a bomb site when we arrived, the owner wasn't expecting us the room was dirty 2 half drunk bottles of water on the table in the room, sink was minging we decided not to stay and found somewhere else
I used to work at the Palm Court Hotel 42 years ago. I’d never been back to Scarborough since I left in 1983. Wanted to see how much the hotel and the place had changed. Brought back memories I’d forgotten.
Very friendly hotel with some of the best views in Scarborough. The room was warm and the bed was extremely comfortable. Great to have the opportunity for parking as well.
Everything
Amazing place to stay, warm and huge comfy beds, fully kitted out.
Spotless clean with all you need
