The house was lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful and the location is brilliant. Next door to a sainsburys express. There's a pub across the street and an Indians down the street (bring your own alcohol) over all a fantastic place to stay.
the only thing that was a let down was the shower. I've been wetter when caught in the rain!
Very friendly service.
Staff were nice, room was comfortable and clean and it was an easy taxi ride to the city centre.
Not sure if it was because it's a cold time of year but the room was very cold! Literally shivering at times and had to use an extra blanket in the bed.
Great Room, Breakfast & Friendly Geoff.
Close to city centre. Comfortable bed, pleasant proprietor. On site parklng
Breakfast bland scrambled eggs tastlless bedroom rug stained ,bathroom in need of refurbrishment. Could hear guests in next bedroom .
Outside of main town within a lovely 10 minute walk along river (first right out of holly lodge). Nice breakfast with extra toast and butter! Owner very helpful. Seen complaints about shower pressure... Ours was perfect....small but perfect pressure and temp. Room cleaned each day
Would have liked bigger bathroom with sink (rather than sink in bedroom) but with period properties like this I understand you don't want to knock them about too much so not a problem
Location, owner and breakfast
Sink in bedroom, plastic shower, some areas needed a good clean
Geoff very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful.
Shower clean but almost useless. Sink situated in bedroom. Breakfast good apart from poor quality sausages.
The location was fantastic, just out of town promoting a relaxing walk alongside the river into town.
The bathroom was the worst I have ever seen in a hotel. It was impossible to shower as the shower didn't work and the bath was so old it didn't look clean (it was). Needs some investment to make the hotel a fantastic place to stay.
Fantastic location easy walk to City centre
payment as we came in the door
The staff were so helpful and building lovely. Could do with bigger car park. Shower facilities need update. All in all lovely time.
Shower. Toilet cistern hard to flush. Car park small.
The owner was lovely and very friendly.
The room we stayed in was not a 4 star room. The shower had to run for at least 5 minutes before it was warm enough and then the water only trickled out. It was all a little dated.
Location. South of city centre so a good route to the A64 (and other roads) avoiding the city centre. Satnav gives destination 200 - 300 metres short. Good breakfast, nice sausages. Good proprietors.
Sadly for me, the shower cubicle was too short and too small. The shaving mirror could only be used if I kneeled down! Trivial complaints, yet overall I would be happy to stay there again.
Location was great
Room and en suit was not clean, shower was high to enter and exit, water power was non existent, bags from some other guests down back of cabinet, sponge at back of headboard, noise from other rooms,
Breakfast was excellant
Bathroom needs modernising and shower had very poor power.
The location, two minutes walk from the river, and fifteen minutes walk to York centre. The full English breakfast provided was excellent .
Brilliant weekend stay, staff were most welcoming and willing to help, breakfast was good. Didn't have a car with us but parking was available, and just a short walk into the city. Will be back!
External building is very pretty
The room was old and in need of improvement. The sink was in the bedroom rather than the bathroom. It didn't seem like a 4 star place.
Absolutely fantastic hotel! We stay in York quite often, however this hotel has been by far the best we have stayed in. Geoff was incredibly helpful, really warm atmosphere upon arrival. Breakfast was included and was made to order rather than being left out on a hot plate like most places. We would definitely stay at this hotel again, absolutely nothing to fault it on. Thanks for making our stay even better!
Fairly close to CBD, carpark,
Rooms were small with no ventilation, windows could not be opened, so was quite stuffy. Hot water took ages , and shower base did not empty quickly so nearly stood in a bath by the end of the shower
The location was great. 10 minute walk to the town centre didn't use the car once we had took our bags out. and there is a little shop across the road. Pubs all the way to town that serve food to. And York town is really good day and night. The owner is great and very helpful. Would recommended to anyone thinking of going to York to stay here.
I felt the price was a little high for what we got. Having to be up and down for breakfast between half 8 - 9 was a bit much.
A lovely old building. Owner was polite
The cleanliness. Couldn't have a shower it was cold with very low pressure. Couldn't open window when we tried it was full of dead moths. Carpet was really dirty and worn. Owner took payment before we even got to see the room. No wonder. Sorry but it really needs a good clean. That's all...
Good location to access York.
There is only a half hour window to have breakfast. Bathroom is very small.
Owner, location, the period property, off road parking
nothing we did not like
This place is lovely and quiet; good parking & comfortable, the owners very friendly.
