Holly Bank HouseBursnips Rd, Essington., WV11 2RD Wolverhampton (Show map) Excellent, Score from 48 reviews“Lovely hotel - delicious breakfast. Staff very welcoming - really nice stay!”
Patrick,
Birmingham
Holly Bank House is a family-run, late Victorian property set on 4 acres of grounds. Guests are welcomed in the impressive main hall, with its fine antiques, suits of armor and, in the winter, a roaring log fire. A paneled drawing room serves as the guest lounge. Again it is furnished with antiques, and has an open fire. All bedrooms are individually and tastefully furnished with antiques and carefully chosen fabrics. Hotel Rooms: 7

Very friendly welcome - Tina could not do enough for me - even carried my heavy bag upstairs. Very comfortable room - quirky and interesting. Beautiful bed linen. Excellent breakfast in great setting - will return in the summer and make use of the beautiful gardens.

This is the best place that I and my wife have stayed during the trip. The proprietor, Tina has been very friendly and provided us with excellent service. The house is large and well decorated. It has a huge garden with nice trees and flowers. The place is very quiet and is excellent place for relaxation without any disurbance from city noice. I would strongly recommend this hotel to any travellers who want to get away from city and have a quiet and relaxing holiday. To me and my wifie, this is not a hotel but a mansion with personal service from the proprietor, Tina. The house is beautifully decorated with artifacts and collections. Breakfast was excellently prepared by Tina. We really enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. We will definitely go back there again on our next trip to Wolverhampton

We were very impressed with the comfort and hospitality provided at Holly Bank House which is a large Victorian house set in four acres of gardens. As our stay was in winter we especially enjoyed the large log fire in the lounge in the evening. The proprietor showed genuine concern for the comfort of the guests - and this was greatly appreciated.

Hotel was beautifully furnished and felt like a home rather than a business. We stayed in room number 1, which was very clean and the bed very comfortable. There was a seating area by the window which was nice to sit in whilst have a cup of tea (tea and coffee facilities provided). On the same road as the hotel (turning left) was a good value pub where we had lunch, and dinner at a recommended Indian restaurant, which was next to a Chinese takeaway, (turning right from the hotel). A family friend of the hotel owner recommended this to us, and again was great value for money. Hotel set in beautiful grounds, furnishings authentic and gave a victorian feel. The owner, Tina, whom we had read much about in other reviews was away at the time of our visit (new year) so I feel our Holly Bank experience was not all it could have been. Her replacements were friendly enough but did not give the warm, welcome, family feeling we were so looking forward to. For example, we had seen pictures on booking.com of the living room and we had to ask about this, and when shown where it is did not feel we could venture into it on our own. Had Tina have been there I think this would have been a different story, as many other travellers have told, and I am sure our experience was a unique one. When we arrived I spoke to Tina on the phone and she matched the character we were expecting and it is a shame we could not have met her, as perhaps we would then have felt more at ease.

Staff were very friendly. Grounds were nice. Unfortunately although we had a confirmed booking the hotel had failed to update their bookings diary so they did not have a room for us. This was more of a problem because we had specifically chosen the hotel because it took dogs - finding another hotel at late notice that wold also takes dogs would have been impossible. They did eventually put us in an attic room (not the superior room we booked) which was ok even if we did keep hitting our heads and there was no curtain on the bathroom window!. Breakfast was fine. However bit disappointed they then charged us for a superior room when we clearly didn't get one!!!

We stumbled upon Holly Bank House by chance after a last minute decision to stay in Wolverhampton for a conference. We were absolutely delighted as we got so much more than we bargained for. The lovely owner is a very experienced hotelier who greets you with a big smile. Nothing is too much trouble and the surroundings were like something out of a set for Anne of Green Gables. We enjoyed spending time looking through the treasure chest of ornaments from times gone by. Breakfast in the conservatory was lovely with freshly cut exotic fruit followed by a hearty breakfast. The hubby even got to watch the Rugby while I relaxed with the big pile of women's magazines with my coffee. Although we have no kids it was great to see the young children that were staying there, relaxed and enjoying the grounds. Planning to go back and take the family - they will love it! If you want something a little special with an eclectic mix of love and treasure this is the place for you. That we had to go home! We loved it there.

We were made to feel welcome by the owner. Holly Bank House is a large building in a beautiful setting and is in a central position making it very easy to visit lots of places. The room we were given was the attic suite which was adequate for us and very clean, but if we were any taller we would have difficulty moving around as the ceiling has very steep slopes on both sides of the room. The breakfast was exceptional with a fine selection of cereals and fruit. The breakfasts were served in the large conservatory. There were a few lights missing in our rooms and the light outside our door not working so when we arrived back after a night out we had to be careful as it was hard to see where we were going. In the en-suite the taps were loose and we sometimes had trouble flushing the toilet as there was something wrong with the cistern.

Our stay here was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a family run Hotel/B & B and you really feel that. It was very welcoming. The House itself is beautiful, very old and antique. We had a lovely weekend and would definitly stay again. Perfect place to relax and switch off!!

Good parking. Good gardens. Interesting decor and contents. Clean. Excellent breakfast. Nice owner and staff. Room 7 was in the attic and the sloping roof was inhibiting, particularly in the bathroom, although we are not tall. The water pressure was very low and no shower. There was a headset to wash your hair and the bath was clean. The owners were lovely but I am not sure they were that aware of electrical hazards. The tv looked as if it had been dropped with a big crack in the plastic case that was probably not safe for small fingers. I would not be happy to have children in this room. I was concerned to find a mains powered mirror/lamp combination next to the wash basin. This was connected by a trailing lead and plugged into the ring main in the adjacent room. Having said that I would stay here again but not with kids and preferably a room with more headroom in the bathroom..

Friendly owner. Treated us very well was attentive and looked after us once we got to know her a bit. Even offered us a glass of Champagne and gave a personal tour around the premises. A real character. Would definately recommend. Breakfast finishes fairly early when you are on a weekend and wanting to have a bit more of a sleep in so be prepared, otherwise you can always skip breakfast as is extra and have it locally later on when it suits you.

The breakfast was good, location good, rooms spacious No wifi as advertised, poor water pressure, no shower as advertised. No dinner dining. Tv was old and reception poor with very few channels. I found the cost of the breakfast was excessive. I really needed a single room, however I'm not sure weather these had on suite bathrooms

The hotel was so unusual, it was worthy of being a trust property with each room set out with antiques. The staff were very warm and welcoming. The breakfast was set out in the conservatory, so lovely. The continental breakfast was well worth the extra £5, lots of fresh fruit, yogert and much more. Will visit this place again. The shower wasn't brilliant.

A world away from the anonymity and personality-free flat screen/ breakfast in a box/ matchbox sized rooms of many a hotel. Wonderful charm and character and amazing owner who managed to perfectly balance the art of looking after her guests whilst not being overbearing at all. Room was huge, linen fresh and had one of the best hotel-night sleeps ever. Breakfast perfect; fresh and plentiful. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

It's a fantastically quaint hotel with some lovely touches but comfortable too.Situated in lovely gardens and realtively quiet consideringthe nearness to a main road. A fairly petty issue but there were part used shampoo's and body wash containers in the bathroom. Would have preferred unused.

“This hotel is ultra modern, close to local amenities, the staff were very polite & helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable and as it was on the 10th floor the view was stunning, however as this was a twin room I do think that there should have been 2 complimentary bottles of water in the fridge and not one. I would recommend this hotel. There was ample to choose from at the buffet breakfast.” Yvonne, Birmingham |
