The woodpecker flew off before I could get my binoculars out.
Hotel was easy to find being right next to the A36 but traffic noise was not a problem. Carpark is 50m away from door but there is a signposted dropoff point, it seems some reviewers did not see the sign. Staff very welcoming, reception was spotless and tidy. The suite was also spotless, very comfortable bed, everything worked, fresh milk available for coffee (you only have to ask). The spa was as you would expect from a small hotel, the sauna and steam room would hold about 6 people in each in comfort, the jacuzzi pool was warm and had room for 8, the outdoor pool was great for a dip after the sauna. The 20m walk to the spa was through the garden with birds singing, would be lovely in the summer when the roses are in bloom, thank goodness they have not built a covered walkway. Garden was lovely, saw woodpeckers and a range of other birds. The food was very tasty, freshly cooked breakfast meant you had to wait a few minutes, much better than a lukewarm buffet. After some reports about the cost of the food in the evenings I was careful to check the prices, they were what I would expect for a meal of this quality and originality, if you want huge portions of sausage and mash then go to the pub in the nearby village. The chef made a happy birthday message on my partners dessert in chocolate sauce.
