Staff is outstanding, Wifi is good
This is an old home and the single rooms at the second floor are small. The floors are not even, bathroom is small and low. Somebody above 1m85 will have problems.
Much more friendly feel than big chains. Food great. Rooms comfortable.
Location , quiet , good breakfast clean. Helpful staff
Room a bit small but perfectly adequate
Friendly efficient staff Excellent food
Period building and lovely grounds, warm, friendly staff and service.. would be first on my list if I needed to stay in the area again..
Staff is very very friendly Clean rooms
The owner Tony The staff The bathroom Nice building Nice room setup
Little room Needs more isolation in windows Too much light in the morning, need blinders or something
Staff and food absolutely superb. The chef is excellent.
Charm of the building, not the usual 'sterile' hotel.
Having only one night stay!
The staff were very welcoming and the hotel was clean and comfortable and suited our needs for one night. Breakfast was good.
It is a hotel used mainly by single business people so lacked atmosphere in the evening so we opted to eat out. The house is old and the rooms at the top of the house had sloping floors which at first was a little disconcerting
Georgian house with loads of character. Well run with very friendly efficient staff.
Because of the location, Hook House seems particularly geared to business people who don't return for lunch. As such, Hook House doesn't 'do' lunch. At the owners suggestion we took a 4 minute walk to the Crooked Billet pub and had a good lunch there by the river.
Staff really friendly and helpful. The build had characture, was personal and unque and was well maintained
Beautiful room with nice en-suite bathroom
No A/C in bedrooms - not surprising since this is a country house, but a little uncomfortable on a hot day. Luckily windows opened fully allowing some natural cooling.
Helpfulness of staff
Not a good location if you do not have a car
Pretty property, well maintained old rectory style house, although room facilities a little dated, but not without charm.
I am guessing the reviewer who had the most comfortable bed wasn't in room 4. My bed was impossible to sleep on. It was unbelievably hard, with the what was remaining of the springs causing lumps and it sloped left to right (I had plenty of time to examine, even download an app to measure the angle - averaged 5 degree slope if anyone is interested). I stay in hotels 3 - 4 nights per week and can honestly say that I have never experienced anything worse. The following morning on check out I explained to the the supervisor on duty my experience, only to be treated to the classic customer centric line "we've never had that before" and "well this is an old building with sloping floors, we can't help that". (Basil lives!) I reiterated my dissatisfaction, to be told, "well I'm sorry you feel that way, that will be £79, you can have a banana from the buffet if you like". Perhaps foolishly I paid my bill, asked if there was an owner or manager who could call me with a response to comments. I was told that her boss Tony? the owner would call me later. How much later I'm not sure as three days on and still no call. What a shame that a potentially lovely property can be ruined by a failure to deliver on the most basic of basics (a comfortable bed) and a complete apathy to feedback. Everyone can get things wrong now and again. Mistakes happen, but given the opportunity to respond Tony and his team at Hook House do not seem interested. With this level of response it seems no wonder the endless creep of the homogeneous Premier/Holiday/Hampton Inns look set to continue - what a shame
The staff was very attentive. They took time to visit with us and answer questions. It was a lovely setting and the room was immaculate. We hope to stay again.
The ambience of the building and surrounding. It felt very personal, unlike the Apollo and Premier Inn where I had previously stayed.
Gravel ground, small stones getting in section of my car. Noise from traffic on main road
Perfect location, very friendly staf, all in all a real pleasure to stay at Hook House. We were there with friends and our classic cars, they can be parked safely.
Lovely, clean room. Very friendly staff and freshly cooked breakfast. As a female travelling alone I felt very safe.
Friendly staff and even had gluten free bread, I am very impressed !
Staff, food, location, house.
Mine was a late booking so I got the smallest room they had. Being tall made it a tad awkward.
The service, the food and staff are first class
Lovely Location, experienced staff with a "can do" attitude, warm and friendly Good quality food at both dinner and breakfast. Will certainly be back here!
Nothing I can think of
Small and friendly, v good service, excellent staff, good value for money.
Nothing, I stay for business purposes approx. 1 night per month and would always book here. Thank you.
Very friendly staff who make a stay pleasant.
Lack of fitness facilities.
