Ambience, whereabouts and staff friendly
Room in desperate need of re-furb
It was the perfect place to stay our last night in Devon Country. So typical of the old homes in the area. Craig was especially nice and helpful. We had breakfast and dinner there and enjoyed both.
Staff very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable Good separate restauirant away from bar area Breakfast very good
It was like stepping back in time in the suite, but the bathroom gave all the modern facilities.
This is a splendid country inn with accommodation and good food. Staff were very welcoming and the bar is very pleasant. The standard room I stayed in was comforatable and clean. Sufficient space to work in room, with reasonable speed wireless internet connection.
Breakfast is not served until 8am which is a little late for the business traveller moving to appointments in Devon. The pine furniture in the room made it look a bit dated but it was of good quality.
Staff most friendly and helpful Lovely large double room, lovely restaurant, evening meal and breakfast excellent , great bar area with friendly knowledgeable barman Paul, good location on A39 within easy reach of many resorts and attractions.
Food choice was good and bedroom was clean and comfortabe
Well kept establishment. Clean and up to date. Great food in restaurant. Really nice place to find.
A little noisy as room on road side, but quiet during sleep hours so not a problem.
The Hoops is not one of your antiseptic concrete box hotels with all mod cons and full aircon. Rather it is a collection of clean and well-appointed, but rather small rooms where aircon. is achieved by opening a window and letting the cool Devon air flood in with evocative scents of the countryside. The attached restaurant is great for dinner, and once you've finished, you can take your drink to one of the many sheltered tables in the gardens above the buildings to talk into the evening as the sun sets. That was our experience and hard to beat anywhere.
Loved the room no 5 so pretty and spacious, beer garden beautiful, food great beer cold, staff very very friendly, great place all round. Beautiful thatched building built in 1215, you gotta see it to believe it, so glad we booked there, would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.
Quick tip don't try and fit 2 slightly drunk adults into the bathtub, very funny outcome and ribs will hurt from laughing so much lol
The food in the restaurant for the evening meal was exceptionally good. Breakfast was pretty good too. Staff were efficient and polite. The room was cosy.
Our room was small, considering the price we paid. We did use the hotel during the school break, so a premium may have been charged. The spa bath didn't work, although the shower was a good powerful one.
Very Helpful staff and very good food.
Clean large room. Good parking.Very good meals.
A fine old thatched building. Very friendly, efficient staff, good food with excellent ingredients. Real ale in the bar. A beautiful and comfortable quiet room. A wonderful weeks holiday!
We stayed here at the weekend whilst attending a family wedding. A pretty thatched, traditional pub, located in a beautiful part of North Devon, the one aspect about 'The Hoops' which really amazed us was the incredible warmth and welcome of ALL the staff; such lovely people. The breakfast is also a selling point. Our daughters loved their 'Stateside' style pancakes and the traditional English was VERY good.
The family room was spotless, spacious and very economical - but a tad gloomy. Brighter lighting would be nice!
A good homely small hotel with attentive , pleasant staff. A lot of charm and atmosphere coupled with very good food served with a smile. Would stay here anytime just to have a pint and cream tea in the beautiful garden.
The Food was excellent The room was clean and well kept The bar was friendly and cosy The staff were excellent.
To noisy if you have one of the rooms in the courtyard near the main entrance. Walls of rooms not sound proof enough can here people to easily.
This is a 'peach' of a hotel, thatched roof, old world charm and truly excellent service. The food was first class, the room and en suite were spotless and the staff were very werlcoming and friendly.
Staff exceptionally attentive and handled a rather complicated family booking very easily. Food excellent; wine v. good and reasonably priced. Breakfast service really outstanding.
One of the local ales wasn't available - but a small point
Everything except the exit onto the road. Staff were something special!
The exit onto the road (on a curve at the bottom of a hill, potentially exciting if you are not paying attention - but then you maybe should not be driving!)
an absolute dream if you like old English Inns and country pubs
Lovely room, lovely gardens, good parking & lovely atmosphere.
Really loved the room, very spacious. Breakfast lovely.
The restaurant menu was limited for vegetarians.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
