If you are seeking the authentic flavor of the West Country then look no further. This picture-book thatched-roof inn is nestled in one of England's most unspoiled landscapes. This lovingly cared for Grade 2 historical registry-listed Heritage Hotel, under the personal supervision of Dee and Gerry Goodwin, combines character, charm, courtesy & cuisine with the warmest of welcomes and generous hospitality. Set on the Atlantic Highway (A39), this Romantic Oasis is easy to find and the perfect base for both relaxation & recreation. The picturesque village of Clovelly, the jewel of the West Country, is a short drive or a delightful coastal walk from the inn, while Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are within easy reach. The Hoops Inn & Country Hotel is proud of its extensive range and high quality food provided. The menu is varied to accommodate seasonal specialties and is freshly prepared in our own kitchens using the best of garden & local produce. Guests can choose to dine in the candlelit restaurant, in the relaxed bars or, on balmy summer days, outdoors on the covered courtyard. There are a vast array of activities on the inn's doorstep which can be enjoyed throughout the year such as golf, fishing, sailing, hiking, surfing and biking. In addition to the many historic houses, beautiful gardens & quaint coves & villages, The Hoops Inn has more than 8 acres of landscaped grounds for your enjoyment. More energetic walkers and birdwatchers can follow the steps of Henry Williamsons Otter on the Tarka Trail, take a trip to Lundy Island or ramble along the North Devon Coastal Path. This 13th century inn is one of England's most famous, being notorious as the haunt of smugglers and a meeting place for seafarers such as Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Richard Grenville. In winter, relax by one of the inglenook fireplaces, warming yourself next to a blazing log fire, where you can imagine being transported back in time to a less complicated age. Today the inn welcomes travelers from around the world and seeks to provide an enchanting experience for guests and warm memories when they leave. The atmosphere in the hotel/pub/restaurant is excellent. The staff´s friendliness and the service you get is absolutely top class! Rooms in the pub-house/main house gave us a feeling of tradition and we really enjoyed our stay here, and the Hoops Inn &Country Hotel can be very much recommended.

Staff very friendly, service excellent, food very good. We had a very comfortable room on the front, didn't here any road traffic at all. Found some very good walks to do and the men folk enjoyed their golf. We would have liked more vegetables with our meals and not so many chips.

On arrival we were met with a very friendly welcome and immediately felt comfortable. The room was lovely and the bathroom was exceptionally large, with a good power shower and plenty of hot water. All the staff were cheerful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast was delicious and in lovely comfortable surroundings. We stayed for the easter break weekend and we will definately be returning some time. It was very good value for money. The bar food in the evenings was very limited and a little overpriced, but there were other pubs and inns nearby which we could have eaten at.

It's lack of bistro cafe feel, traditional building shown to its best effect, bedrooms that matched the age of the property, and a bar that fitted the overall feel of the Inn

I loved everything about The Hoops, particularly the ancient atmosphere with the modernized convenience and comfort. The staff were extremely welcoming and the food was terrific. Nothing beats a great meal in front of a roaring fire during the bleak mid-winter. And the surrounding area is gorgeous in all directions.

Beautiful thatched building, very quirky, cosy and welcoming. Excellent choice of home-cooked food. Beautifully presented. Rooms very comfortable, spotlessly clean. All staff very friendly and helpful. Very relaxed atmosphere throughout. In all a very recommendable place to stay or simply book for an evening meal to enjoy the fine dining.

Food was good quality but poor selection. On the evening we stayed there was a menu of 7 main course selections and 3 weren't available; therefore we finished up having bar food in the main restaurant. Breakfast was excellent. Room was tired and the water wasn't hot enough for a shower, the shower was reduced to little more than a trickle.

A picturesque & charming country inn, ideally placed to access the North Devon costal path. The accomodation was excellent and the cuisine was superb ( both breakfast & evening ) The staff were very pleasant and accomodating and the fact that our two dogs were allowed to stay ( with use of one of the bars whilst with them ) was an added bonus! All in all a very enjoyable weekend which we would gladly do again.
