We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and willingness to help also the understanding of my gluten free dietery requirements. However we did not enjoy being kept up until 5.30am on the Saturday night by other hotel guests below us with their drinking and noise, although the hotel night porter was very aware of these guests nothing was done to keep them quiet would probably not stay there again because of this. We chose this hotel for its location away from the main hub of Torquay centre and were very disappointed by this and when mentioned to staff they were also very aware of the situation and informed us the night porter had had problems with them. Everything else about the hotel was satisfactory

Staff very pleasant and very helpful. Certain aspects of the room were not of very good quality. The shower in the bathroom was very poor, ranging from cold to scolding hot and the water flow was poor. The shower curtain was old and stained. The skirting boards, particularly under the wall heater and on top of light switches, was very dusty and dirty. The room however was warm, bed was clean and reasonably comfortable. Good breakfast in the morning.

No complaints at all. I was a bit concerned after reading other reviews (After I had booked !!!) but I personally had no problems at all. Room was good for the money, possibly a bit small but I didn't need to swing a cat coz I left him at home. Downstairs area was exceptionally good as were the reception staff. I had both dinner and breakfast and this was superb with the young lad on waiter service being exceptionally professional. I certainly will stay again just hope I dont end up in one of the rooms which seem to of caused previous guests problems.

Beautiful decor of the ground floor This Hotel was a disgrace. For Breakfast the toast had green mould all over it, when we reported it no apology was given. It was just taken away and we presume a new lot put out. The evening waiter tried to take our sweet order before we had our main course. The most challenging thing though about this Hotel was the en suite bathroom!!!!!! The wc was between the outside wall and shower and the space so tiny that you had to go sideways to get to the seat and then when you got up you had to meet the challenge of the gigantic loo roll holder before you could get out

Hot breakfast which was good! Room too small and could hear your neighbours snoring. Booked the room on the Wednesday and arrived on Thursday. Had to print arrival form. Went to check out on the Saturday and had no records of us staying in the room for 2 nights. Couldve left without paying and they would've been none the wiser!

Bar, restaurant etc decorated well Good choice of breakfast Had a lovely 3 course meal in the hotel restuarant (discounted for hotel guests) We got a great deal of 3 nights including breakfast for £107, and on arrival were upgraded to a sea view room for free Terrible nights sleep on the first night due to very poor sound proofing between adjoining rooms and between rooms and corrider. No water pressure in shower Dirty bowls at breakfast ok for the price we paid but would not be happy to pay full price

We loved the beautiful art deco lounge area and the fact it was not too crowded. The price was excellent for a night away while visiting friends. Very noisy from 8:00 all Sunday morning until we checked-out at 11:00! Terrible banging coming from upstairs - a chambermaid furious with a broom perhaps?

Car parking. Staff were friendly and helpful Room was cold and radiator didn't work. No hot water in the shower and it made an awful racket so we couldn't use it. Lift was next door and it banged and kept us awake late at night and early in morning. Bathroom was very small with toilet wedged between shower and wall so very uncomfortable Wi-Fi didn't work

Well-situated. Adequate parking. Helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable room with balcony and small, but adequate en-suite. Excellent breakfast! Room was slightly noisy with other guests coming and going. There were notices up requesting that other guests be considerate when closing their doors.

we found the hotel lovely and friendly .But evening dinner menue was not enough choice the deserts stayed the same .So would get board on a long stay ..However the bar snacks were good and afternoon tea is to die for and lots of it . we found our room lovely but the shower was just a trickle. but there was a large bath and the view of the sea was lovely .the only problem was we were to far from torquay as we like to shop and try diffrent resturants for lunch .So we had to use the car a lot ,as it is on a steep hiill. and as we have bad hips and are mature couple 'it was difficult for us .

Location The walls between individual rooms are not insulated. You can hear the television in the next rooms even if it is on very low, you can hear people talking, you can even hear them go to the toilet. We booked for three nights. On the first night we got about four hours sleep, The hotel boiler[went off at about 1.30am and came back on at 6.00am] made a terrible noise, so could not sleep except between these hours. We were moved to a different room but this had 'neighbours'. They played the television until about 3.00am so very little sleep that night. Third night although the tv went off at about 10.00pm we could hear our neighbour snoring all night - result virtually no sleep. On the fourth night we arrived back at our room at 6.00pm and could hear the tv playing very loudly. We decided that enough was enough and cut short our holiday, driving 300 miles home . Altogether the worst stay anywhere that we have ever had. I play on the Chess circuit so am away from home for around 50 percent of the year. And have never before felt the need to leave early

The dining experience was excellent When I booked I requested a bottle of Mumm champagne as it was our wedding anniversary celebration, nothing was done about that, it would be good if more attention could be paid to booking requests & an e-mail to inform us if our request was possible.

“It must be 10 years since I last stayed at the Palace. I was very pleased to see that it was just as nice as I remembered it. The decor of all the public rooms has been kept looking fresh and modern, but the character of the hotel has been maintained. The reception area is warm, welcoming and luxurious. The staff are friendly and efficient. I saw 'high tea' being served to the youngest guests and they were being given as much care and attention as any adult in the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, both in quality of food and service. Our room was good, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was a little tired but it was spotlessly clean with loads of hot water. The Palace is a very calm, relaxing place to stay. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept. Too much 'modernisation' would spoil this hotel and I think they have got the balance right.” Sue, Solihull |
