Room was nice Evening meal in the bar was tasty and value for money
The Sanilav in the bathroom made a terrible noise and woke me up. Breakfast was over cooked and peppery
Very good breakfast
The hotel had no knowledge of our booking when we arrived. The room was cold and had only one bath towel, one bedside table and lamp and overlooked a noisy garage forecourt. They failed to give us the code to get out of the car park even!
location beside station; helpful and friendly staff and being remembered from last time
some old-fashioned aspects of room, though it is due for modernisation inadequate light for reading and working
The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was superb. Downstairs has been refurbished since our last visit 2 years ago and upstairs is to be done soon also apparently. lovely stay. Thank you
Excellent breakfast Great location for shopping Nice bar area and reception Nicely decorated downstairs Friendly staff
Room over looking the garage next door Room could do with decorating and some personal touches i.e. few more toiletries and some tissues Bath quite small especially for the larger person
Hot shower. Comfortable bed. Good service. Excellent breakfast, pleasant dining room
Overly noisy chemical toilet. Dim bedroom bulbs. Marked bedroom wallpaper
ast time we stayed here the hotel was in need of some tlc well the improvements are taking place and so far very nice
workmen taking scaffolding down at 730 on a sundaymorning but was told that was the only time the council would allow the waggon to be parked on the busy A6
Central location, trendy bar area seating could of been comfier, some nice squidgey sofas would be nice and dim the lights to give nice ambiance.
Breakfast was excellent and the staff really friendly and helpful. Location was good and car park really handy
Staff very helpful and pleasant; we arrived early after a long journey and we received entry to the room promptly. The serving personnel carried out their duties in a professional manner therefore enhancing the good English breakfast each morning.
We felt the bathroom fittings were rather jaded and in need of updating, together with the fact the water was only ever lukewarm, which is not what a guest requires at this time of year. The shower was basic but adequate.
reception staff very pleasant ,nothing was too much trouble sorted out the radiator in the bathroom .gave us some more t bags and milk. would defiantly stay again.
Comfortable bar and restaurant. Hotel in middle of huge renovation plan which will only go to make it and even better place to stay
Bedroom had not been renovated.
Good breakfast including plenty of Vegetarian options. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Nice and Clean.
Window wouldn't open. Shampoo but no body wash in shower room.
Nice room very large good bathroom
Needs a clean under furniture , bed very soft ,only enough tea, coffee for 2 cups each
Staff were very helpful. The breakfast was very good. Central location handy.
There was absolutely no water pressure so trying to have a shower was not a nice experience & spoilt my stay. However the Lion Hotel is under new ownership & it was evident that things will improve.
The staff were very accommodating the atmosphere was relaxed and good lunches.
Soft pillows :-( noisy room as we were near the kitchen extractor. The hotel has recently been taken over and is due changes, that said it was far better than I expected.
Size of room and bathroom, breakfast was excellent quantity and quality and service was excellent. All staff were very helpful and cheerful. I didn't use wi-fi
What has put me staying at the hotel was the builders banging on a wall below my room at 06:40 in the morning. A couple of lads were then drilling outside at nearly 10.00 at night - not impressed.
Good value for money. Didn't expect the Ritz, but, for the money, I doubt you could find better.
Water not hot enough
Allocated room was poor state. Given another much better room with no problems. All staff were most friendly polite and professional.
The hotel is still being upgraded so although shabby in some areas this is being addressed .
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Location very handy for the town. Current refurb very nice - downstairs so far.
TV only worked on one channel. Shower a bit of a poor affair - not much power!
Room was lovely and the hotel was very nice and comfortable. The breakfast and restaurant food was very good quality and staff were helpful and friendly. Good value for money certainly, and a great place to stay.
Hotel lacked a few pictures/walls a bit bare and the bar/restaurant was a little bland/lacked atmosphere. (I think there used to be a real coal fire in there once which helped.) The hotel was also a little mean on towels and toilet roll. But overall, it was a really decent place to stay.
Location good and staff helpful Nice breakfast
Bedroom could have been cleaner -( chewing gum stuck on window sill ) no bulbs in bed side lights or towels in bathroom . Initially allocated room with double mattress occupying the bath . All the above put right by the staff ,but felt rooms should have been checked and ready for booked guest .
Excellent bar and restaurant staff. Very good breakfast. Lovely clean rooms. Comfortable bed. A very personable night porter who should go far.
Location for the town was good, Breakfast was excellent and very quick and efficient, good variety
Room was quite tired looking but they are doing the place up. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
New management had just taken over when we visited The Lion Hotel, and had started refurbishing the downstairs areas during our stay, although there was some disruption it was minimal and we enjoyed our visit. We had breakfast in a different room everyday. The breakfasts were very good. We hope to revisit to see all the changes/improvements that will have been made to this Hotel.
Bedrooms at the front of the hotel are in need of double glazing, lot of traffic noise. We were advised that once downstairs was completed then the bedrooms will be refurbished.
