Food was really excellent Good selection of quality wines Bed was big, comfy and clean Room had usual facilities including hairdryer, iron and ironing board Price was excellent - great value for money Staff very friendly Other guests in restaurant friendly, helpful and chatty (they were locals)
Found hairs in drawers Broken toilet pull, mould and limescale on shower suggesting not cleaned No remote control, then remote provided didn't work Guests in neighbouring room very inconsiderate, dirty and loud (not hotel's fault but perhaps is suggestive of clientele) Dirty spoons - had to change Broken window in room 3 guests at breakfast got wrong order given to them (including me) Couldn't get WiFi in room
Breakfast was excellent in variety, quality and content. Hotel location good.
There was a party on in a function room below ours, and although it didn't finish too late, the doors to the adjoining corridor were open letting noise spread up to our room. A lift would be useful.
We had a very nice meal in the restaurant in the evening and an excellent breakfast.
The restaurant was very small, the tables were rather close together
Breakfast was great with really good sausages and all freshly cooked. Our bedroom was spacious. The hotel has recently changed ownership and the new owners are clearly working hard to restore it to its former glory
late night staff was friendly ..
hotel had no confirmation of my booking (thanks booking.com)and gave us what I can only describe as the room from hell .. We stayed in room 1 the only room they had left and wasn't told the room was above a condenser unit for the fans to keep the cellar cool which kicked in every 10 minutes or so for around 15 minutes and the noise was so loud it woke myself and my husband up after an hour my husband went to complain and was told it was the radiators heating up ... The second time he complained he got told the same , on the 3rd complaint my husband noticed the unit just under our window and was told .. Yes sorry about that we don't normaly put people in that room !!! ... Myself had my husband manage to get just over a few hours of broken sleep between getting woken up by the noise , this completely ruined our Sunday as we had planned to go out for the day to visit the sights but ended up driving home as we were so tired we couldn't enjoy our day out .. The room had damp patches on the walls and ceiling the window cill was cracked and crumbling and the on suite shower was dirty and rusty but as we was only staying the one night and sleeping there we over looked this as the bedding was fresh and clean and all we wanted was a good nights sleep !!! If the room wasn't normaly let they should have informed me of this they have obviously had complaints before hand .. Wish I could post pictures as the pictures shown on here are nothing like the hotel and must have been taken years ago .. Take my advice book somewhere else!!! When we complained again in the morning we was told the night porter mentioned our complaints and an engineer was going to be called to stop in disturbing anyone else ..... Then asked for payment .. No apology will never stay again
Location was very good. Sunday morning receptionist Sunday 12/10/14 was excellent he was the only member of staff totally switched on.
Due to parties food was not available after 7.00pm. Although board outside stated food 6.00pm to 9.00pm. Receptions with disco until 1.00am more than disturbing. Whole place needs updating - Very tired. Train somebody how to clean beer pipes. Beers tasted of cleaning fluid. We were forced to use a pub down the road.
A very friendly welcome and very helpful receptionist that answered any queries and booked us a taxi for our evening. One of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time.
The room was a little tired and could do with a facelift.
Clean room, great breakfast. Good location. Cheap and cheerful without being rubbish!
Friendly staff and good location, value for money.
Room could do with updating and a thorough clean.
Wi-Fi did not work reported but not willing to do anything Noisy kitchen fan kept us awake, switched off at 1.30am after a phone call Restarted at 7am Smoking area below room window with smoke coming in to room
Staff friendly Food very good , just not a lot of variety
Dirty rooms , old outdated decor , dirty bedding and mattresses, broken taps in bathroom, broken light in bathroom , dirty bathroom ,
Staff were really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was gorgeous!
Shower didn't work very well and not much hot water but that could be contributed to time shower taken.
Polite friendly staff. Bath In the ensuite. Central location in Belper. Good breakfast.
Noisy wedding, lots of parking spaces but all in use until wedding guests started to leave. Very poor shower.
The food and the staff were amazing, would definitely stay again. Great value and so friendly.
Shower in the room wasn't very good
we have stayed at the lion several times and it has been fine, the staff are helpful, breakfast was good
we stayed in room 3 and to be very honest it was very dusty the tops of the furniture and window sills had not been wiped for what look like a while, the bathroom was the same the toilet flush handle fell off everytime used.its a shame as it is the only hotel in belper,we went to the bar for a drink and a look at the evening menu but after waiting 8minutes we went else where,
Friendly staff, efficient staff and accommodating staff. Arrived late, tired and fed up after a long journey. Just wanted a simple meal and a good night' sleep. Both provided.
Wasn't offered a copy of my bill but no big deal.
Everying was good
Staff were very pleasant and attentive. They tried their best to please despite the fact it was clear they were facing a loosing battle. Did have a surprisingly good evening meal.
Downstairs was dirty, carpets clearly not vacuumed and appeared stained. 2 pints of larger rejected in the bar, the first was warm and the second had black bits in it. Bedroom carpet felt sticky, the bedroom decor was very poor. The bath at first look appeared dirty however on a closer inspection was actually very scratched.
Breakfast was nice, family room very spacious.
Extra bed in the room cost £15 and was very uncomfortable with springs that you could feel. My child wouldn't sleep in it. Travel cot cost £10 too. I think the room was very expensive because of this.
Ideal location for exploring the Peak District, Belper is a lovely town and the Lion is right on the A6. Food was very good both at dinner and breakfast.
The pub boasted 5 handpumps which was true but on my visit none of them had any beer on! I had to visit a pub nearby.
Good breakfast Ideal location. Clean room Good shower.
Noisy kitchen extractor fans running till late. Every time anyone ordered food the fans would kick in, the noise when running was fine, just the abrupt loud startup would wake you. Couldn't keep window open due to the smokers and patrons in the central courtyard as the smoke would stink the room out along with the extractors.
Some staff were helpful and pleasant, and served my family champagne on the morning of my wedding
The staff that booked me had no idea what they were doing and had lost the key for one of rooms - turned out they hadn't checked out the previous nights guest who then returned to the room during the middle of the night and petrified my elderly grandma who was sleeping there. She could not sleep after that and staff didn't even apologise. Facilities are poor and the hotel is run down, the rooms are very hot and stuffy and the noise from downstairs prevents you from getting any sleep. Also the wifi is non existent and the lady on the desk said it's always like that
Suited our needs admirably as we were visiting friends and relatives in the region. Excellent breakfast! Stayed for three nights.
The 'intermittent' Wifi that never worked. There are refurbishments planned in the near future which should resolve the problem.
Clean sheets Great breakfast
The room was opposite the petrol station which was busy all night long So make sure you don't get any if these Rooms 456789
The breakfast was excellent. The staff were very good.
The room was not a good standard. The bed was uncomfortable and and the window sill was falling apart! The shower needed a good clean inside and outside.
