just 100 metres from the tube station, beautiful historic building, within a walking distance of many central London attractions, good breakfast, coctails in the bar, attentive staff, large bathroom
Good location and great staff
Nice bar and breakfast was good
I had to move room due to being offered what i could only describe as a broom cupboard and the replacement room was not much better, no way to open the window, dull, dark and very very dated. The worst hotel room i've ever come across. Mobile coverage in the hotel was very poor. And the room where the conference was needed some proper air conditioning.
Our previous stay in this hotel was 50 years ago, so for us, this return visit was indeed a joy. The room was perfect and we enjoyed a very peaceful night’s sleep. Our plan is to make it an annual event.
The location of the hotel was perfect and was very impressed with the building! The service was good at reception and excellent in the dining room. I was very impressed with the package that we received for staying at the hotel as it provided us with not only a bottle of sparkles but also a voucher that we could redeem in Harrods (which I did).
I have 3 criticisms about this hotel with the first one being my quality of sleep. With such an impressive hotel I was expecting a fabulous bed to sleep in with sumptuous pillows to rest my head and I was provided none. I could feel the springs in the mattress and the pillows felt like broken pieces of filling that should have been thrown out many moons ago. The second is the fact that our room was not equipped with an Iron or Ironing Board and Had to wait 45 mins before one was brought to our room. The third is the way reception treated my experience with quite a dismissive manner and did not even offer an apology. If the hotel was to upgrade their beds and pillows to what I would expect of a high class hotel I would be happy to return.
Good location Nice staff
Cost was not commensurate with quality of room. Air con didn't work and had to move beds to get some personal space. Extra towels not delivered as requested
The wonderful foyer - veryy impressive. Very pleasant carpeting and decoration to all floors.
My room had afternoon sun streaming in when I opened the door. Surprisingly big with high ceiling, a small balcony, large bathroom, single bed, and a view of greenery from trees in Russell square... Great area for exploring London. Staff were really helpful... the doorman walked me to the local post office, which I had great difficulty finding. Very sweet.
On the negative side, traffic noise meant I had to shut the windows and doors. Quietened after midnight.
Location Good size room Clean Excellent value for money
Arrived at 4.30pm after a very delayed journey and still our room wasn't ready. We had to wait over half an hour for our room which I felt was unsatisfactory and with no explanation!
Sara of the bar staff
Attentive reception staff, acknowledged by all staff when walking through building in a polite manner. Beautiful staircase.
View from room a disappointment
Alomst, like no slippers, no remote control of air conditioner.
The Hotel was very grand and the room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and the overall stay was a pleasure.
Unfortunately we needed a good night's sleep as my daughter was having an operation the following day, the room we stayed in was faultless, unfortunately there was a function going on and the loud music kept her awake. I don't think this was in the hotel but in the location.
Staff and overall cleanliness
We would have appreciated an early breakfast, possibly takeaway style
Staff & attention to detail
My husband and I stayed here for one night and found it very good value for the money, the room was spacious and clean, a couple of repairs could have been made however for the purpose of our stay it was great. The location was brilliant just steps from the nearest tube station. Watch out for the lifts though, if you suffer from claustrophobia you will probably want to take the stairs!

The room have strange smell
We had a room at the back of the hotel with noisey vents outside. They kept us awake all night. Also heard music coming from a venue near by. Staff were polite but nothing more. Never again!
Great location for Central London and the underground. Looks a bit tired here and there with chipped paintwork and holes in the blind. Rooms Could do with a bit of a makeover but clean , quiet and very good value for or money. I would go again.
Some of the bedroom furniture and furnishings were a bit tired looking or chipped. It wasn't a problem though.
Price was terrific. Great value for money. Everything you need and London sights and experiences on the doorstep.
The premises were in a good location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfy and clean. The whole experience was excellent.
The bed was so comfy, the staff were very helpful and a perfect central location next to the underground. Loved the bottle of champagne & Harrods voucher. I enjoyed breakfast, including the nice touch of a glass of orange juice whilst waiting for a table.
