Good location in Russell Square Once I got the past the chandeliers and pillars of the grand foyer, the reality of my room was a big disappointment. Dingy describes it pretty well - marks on the wall, faded carpet, rotting window frame and very old TV. Breakfast was in a vast dining room with too many tables crammed in. The staff did their best in adverse circumstances, but it was not a relaxing start to the day. Overall I thought this hotel was very overpriced for the standard provided.

The room was very small and dingy and not at all worth the large sum of money charged. I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to others at this price.

Liked the location, very close to the tube. The room I stayed in was not a 4 star room. Felt old and very tiny and I was rather dissapointed considering the price. Have stayed in many other 4 star hotels in London where the rooms have had a much higher standard. Same goes for the breakfast, it did not match the standards of other similar hotels and there were not enough healthy options. Was supposed to recieve a shopping voucher, but did not get one until checkout when I asked about it. Was going straight to the airport and did not have time to go to Harrods in Knightsbridge, but was told I could use it at the small harrods at the airport. Not true. Voucher was only valid in Knightsbridge and I ended up having to pay!

Nothing My hotel stay was a nightmare. The first room they showed me was a garret with a tiny single bed, scuffed furniture, stained ceiling. Literally the worst room I have ever seen. I had to request a new room. I cancelled the last two days of my stay because the hotel was such a terrible experience. I ended up paying 300 pounds for one night and 240 for the next night. A complete ripoff.

Interesting building, nice room, good bed, good shower, friendly staff. No Wifi in the rooms (yet). Free Wifi for 30 minutes in the lobby; thereafter to be paid for (not so easy to arrange). Hotel staff explained that the absence of Wifi is due to the thick walls of the old building in which the hotel is located.

The facelift that the hotel has recently undergone has only happened to about one half of the hotel - which happened to be the half the room allocated was not in!

very nice comfortable and clean rooms. We stayed at the 7th floor, (highest floor) and the design was very modern. The room was very spacious and had everything insight- even an iron and board! the location is excellent as it is next to the russell station. The price comparing to other hotels of same category and location was very good. what else is left to say? -we went earlier at the hotel and wanted to leave our luggage at the store area but the guy there was slow and keep coming and going and we had to stay there 20 minutes. -My card was charged twice- one at the registration and one at check out. they explained that the amount of the registration will be refunded because it was made only for security reasons, but my bank account is now two times less than the amount I paid and I have to wait until they refund the money.. !

I chose the site because it was close to the railway stations, so from that perspective it was great. The most comfortable bed on the planet! And the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted! Didn´t get much sleep though because of noise... So don´t get a room at the back of the hotel. Also wanted a room easily accessible with a heavy suitcase and though they thought they had given me one, it was actually up about 10 steps - very hard to manage.

I liked the location the best. It's right beside Russel Square station which makes things very handy. I got a single room. It was tiny. Much smaller than I thought. I didn't like this. The shower wasn't good either. It was too narrow and you could barely move in it. Also the plug hole didn't drain properly. It just wasn't right. There was no fridge in my room either which was annoying since it was a heatwave and I wanted to keep some water cool. Air conditioning in the room was noisy and I don't think it even worked. I couldn't reduce the temperature on it so it must have been preset. I know this is fairly common but the amount of times the cleaning staff knocked on my door was getting really annoying. Twice in the morning before 11 of the check out time and on the Saturday before I wanted to have a sleep during the day so I put a do not disturb sign on the door since I had a terrible hangover. In the middle of my sleep I was called on the phone to ask when I wanted my room cleaned...I Just got sick of it.

I love the Russell - my parents always used to stay there when in London and I do too, now bringing my daughter, so it's a real family tradition. Old-fashioned elegance, amazing architecture, excellent service, wonderful breakfasts and a superb location. This time there were two things I wasn't so happy about: the room was very warm and the ac, though noisy, did not really get the temperature down and as the room opened on the noisy back yard opening the windows was not an option. Also, the dining room was closed so we had our breakfasts in the Woburn Suite - a disappointment.

The Hotel was ideally placed for what we anted to do in London. In particular it was close to the theaters and also the sights which we wanted to see. We were able to walk to all our destinations. It was suitably priced for a London Hotel. The only problem we had with our room was the noise from outside, both during the night and in the early morning. I actually had to put in ear plugs to get a decent nights sleep. Double glazing I would say is essential.

Pleasant door man. Nice bar area. Room comfortable. Bar staff were surly and provided a curious mixed drink when we had ordered rose. Bar did not have English beer on tap.

Location Heating was via air con so had a choice of being cold in morning or keep waking up in night as air con clicks on. Room request not received and was advised that this was because we did not book direct with hotel. Shopping voucher not received when checking in and had to go back and ask for it.

The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious and lovely towels. The price for a Monday night seemed high. We would have had breakfast if the price was more reasonable than £20. a light option -toast, coffee etc would be helpful rather than all or nothing.

The position of the hotel, and breakfast staff and concierge and cleaning staff were all very polite, the reception staff are more business minded and not that helpful. I have stayed at the hotel last year booked through your company and it was very nice we had a nice room with complimentary wine, water and fruit in a very nice room. Because of last years visit we booked the hotel again this year, it was very disappointing, the room was basic there was not even a complimentary packet of biscuits! I needed extra pillows which were brought for me. I have arthritis and the pillows were too soft, I respectfully asked at reception if they could give me some firmer pillows, but they never did, neither myself or my husband got a good night sleep. I dont think I would book this hotel again, I paid the same amount this year as last year but the room this year was really very standard, I mentioned this to the reception that there was no complimentary water etc and she just said that I had booked the standard room, actually there was no wording saying standard room on my booking just "Double room Shopping Package"

Location Too expensive room and not appropriate to justify the cost. No option to choose the room view while booking online. Our room was poor, not worth that money which we paid. Rooms were not refurbished as said on website. Furniture in an oppressive dark brown color. The wardrobe door did not shut as it was too small to hang anything up. No enough light. No fridge in room. Windows can not be opened. Bed smell and damp in the room. The darkest hotel room we have ever stayed in. Breakfast quality not valuable the price. Great disappointment.

As an oft-visitor to London, I look for the best combination of convenience, value, convenience and price. I have finally found all this in the Hotel Russell. Particularly, I'd like to cite concierge Bernard for his unwavering service and courtesy. Use of business center facilities is a bit awkward and inconvenient and front location was a bit noisy at night, however, this "grand old lady" of a hotel is an excellent mid-price value.

The location, good atmosphere, friendly staff The breakfast tea should be made to order not left to stew in the pots waiting to be pored. I did ask for hot water & tea bags separately and the staff were only to happy to get this for me.
