The rooms and beddings could be better
the diner was amazing. Quite expensive but worth it !!!

The corridor at the second floor was a bit smelly They don't serve cappuccino or hot milk for breakfast
The dinner at the restaurant was really good and the studio facing the cliff was the best location for a nice beer and some chat before the dinner.

Food was average seeing as this was a restuarant rated for Culinery excellence. Bath water was brown but manager dismissive of the reason and was told this was due to water being over boiled.
Location of hotel, beautiful scenery and well kept gardens. Very quirky hotel with its own unique decor of memorabilia.

The only negative for me the bed was a little bit hard but the positives out way this.
This is a stunning location. The hotel is lovely, we'd been upgraded to a room looking over the sea. The owners and staff we very helpful at all times, nothing was too much trouble. We'd definately go back.

Being the only guests not given a window seat at breakfast and then having two separate tables served before us. Choice of menu limited, would like to have seen a couple more mains to choose, hence did not eat at Hotel. Rather dated fixtures and fittings throughout and old broken furniture on our landing.
Location - the views are incredible. Lots of character in the hotel - rather quirky. Pretty, small garden with plenty of seating.

The most uncomfortable hotel bed I can remember- hence not a good night's sleep! Rather a small bedroom with tiny bathroom
Lovely staff very friendly & attentive . Nice warm bar area with proper open fire and comfortable chairs. Good lounge as well.

The position of the hotel
10 October 2014
The bedroom was very small and tired. The bed was too high and the hairdryer was practically impossible to use on my own.
The views were amazing, the welcome and service from the staff was excellent, the food was superb.

The place looked tired, but with very little outlay could be transformed.E.G updated notices, old papers removed etc
The view and the friendliness of staff
26 September 2014
The rooms clearly need a complete refurbishment. The owner was not friendly at all, specially when we arrived.
The location is fantastic.
24 September 2014
Due to the location, it meant we had to do lots of driving to get around. The room was a little small due to the ensuite, the space between wall and bed, a bit of a squeeze.
Unique part of the country with amazing views of the lizard lighthouse. Sit on the slopes of the garden overlooking the coastal path and dramatic coast. Hotel was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.
23 September 2014
Thought room was over priced, fairly basic.
Great location by the sea. Very friendly staff.
6 September 2014
Quality of beef was particularly poor (tough) Restaurant was not value for money (somewhat limited choice and quite expensive eg. '"fish & chips" was circa £16 compared to local pub price of circa £12)
Scenic view from our ocean-facing bedroom Convenience for immediate access to coastal footpaths

Needs updating all round and more focus on customer service generally
Great views, good food and staff

If you look at the ratings you will understand what we the considered the problems were. The laundry soiled, bed linen not clean, towels and table linen soiled.some of the staff not very friendly. We had been looking forward to our visit to the housel bay hotel,as the first time we visited here was40years ago.

The hotel location is absolutely amazing!

The price of the food and beer and lounge a little dated
Location, the view the closeness to a beautiful beach and friendly staff.

Nothing - just bear in mind that Lizard Lighthouse operates at night and seaward rooms do catch the regular flash of the beam as it rotates. However the rooms are fitted with black out blinds so the light is minimal and did not disturb us at all.
The staff were first rate and the Owners. Very friendly and helpful. The restaurant provided excellent food in the evening and the breakfasts were also of a high standard. The location was superb and the views from the seaward rooms were stunning as we're the views from the terraces and gardens. Lovely walks in the area, with the Coast Path running across the front of the hotel's gardens. A couple of miles walk via the most southerly Polpeor Cafe to the National Trust's Kynance Cove was well worth the effort and we even saw the relatively rare Cornish Chough. A lovely stay in a superb location. We would not hesitate to recommend it.
