Big room. Nice bathroom. Fresh milk and tea
The atmosphere at breakfast was lacking. Tables too close together. Very soft background music may help. Burnt toast not great.
Food and staff were excellent. I was a Hilton customer service manager for a long time and was totally impressed by your guys
The general atmosphere of the place... I stay in many hotels but there are few where you feel a connection with the past while enjoying modern conveniences.

Room nice; staff lovely and friendly. Spa facilities were modern and clean.
Weird ... couldn't buy a drink at the bar with money or a debit card after 11pm ... weird or what?? Evening meal had a cracking starter, gorgeous dessert but disappointing, bland main course ... thought Jeremy could have tried harder!!
Stayed for five nights whilst going to the Commonwealth Games. The first night was not good as all we could hear all night was noise from the boiler room behind the bed (room 69). Told staff in the morning we could not cope with staying in the room for four more nights. We were moved immediately to room 64 which although smaller, it had the best bed we have ever slept in when staying in hotels. Just wish we could have taken it home. The only other disappointment was the fact that we were at the games for all but one day so didn't get to use the hotel facilities as much as we would have liked as we left the hotel early in the morning and returned late at night. On the one day we did get to use the spa, it was absolutely wonderful. Would definitely stay again.
The first night we got very little sleep because of the boiler in the wall behind the bed in room 69. We were moved to another room the next day but had to hang around the hotel while this was sorted which meant we were late getting into Glasgow for the games. Caused a bit of an inconvenience but the staff could not have been more helpful.
Poor choice of bar snacks drinks a bit excessive as is the case with Macdonald hotels
The staff were excellent - very helpful and friendly - I only stayed one night but wish it could have been longer
Lovely setting, luxurious rooms. Delicious food!
Staff were over busy! Very slow service at the bar. 2 broken windows in the bridal suite!!
Friendly and keen staff. Dinner was excellent, good selection of wine. Do you have rooms with larger beds? The wifi access - excellent.
Bedroom chairs uncomfortable and dirty as was the bed throw. Water and biscuits not replenished daily. Room service hot meals were not available after 2130 and late Bar meal times mixed up by staff resulting in us eating nuts from the bar instead of a meal. Ice bucket good but why do we have to walk so far to get some. Try not to leave breakfast eggs under the hot lights before serving, toast was never hot, breakfast was better on our visit last year.
The property was excellent - historical but comfortable house in beautiful surroundings. Majority of staff excellent and very attentive and friendly with good understanding of service. Occasionally staff rushed off their feet at breakfast, but next day delighted to see that management helped out. Excellent swimming pool, water temp a little high.
Small double bed and mattress too small for bed base. Over bath shower poor- lacked power and plate was loose. Bath height and grab rail position poor for those with access difficulties, some disability awareness training would be useful for staff. Cracked shaving mirror on both sides- positioned too high for shaving. Water pressure seemed low in room and leisure area in general Bed left unmade on one occasion. Long wait for poor Caesar salad and bar(man) unable to provide Guinness or cider shandy! Starter portions tiny for evening meal! Request to pay extra for kippers and other items at breakfast , unexpected, unacceptable and unreasonable. Does not occur at Holiday Inn where rates are generally less. Guests allowed to smoke outside reception doors and under bedroom windows at front of building. Closing windows not an option on hot day/night - provision and enforcement of a smoking area away from bedrooms should be mandatory. Request for easily accessible room with few stairs not actioned. Receptionist did best when we arrived early pm to provide us with lower , but not ground floor room, so am not sure room and rate paid were comparable.
Excellent spa including tennis and 18m pool. Lovely grounds. Good quality food. Secure
Very slow service in restaurant for dinner Lots of small mistakes with food orders Limited choice on fixed dinner menu if eating on consecutive nights.
Hotel ,Staff and Food world class with every attention to detail and nothing was too much trouble from front house to restaurant ,one other thing was the approach to the hotel and the vision of the hotel was just Devine
The stay was just not long enough Eva ,Jean and Peter Great Budsworth Cheshire
Nothing except the premises. The grounds were nice.
The staff are not rude but not well mannered. Staff walk past you and do not greet you. In the morning staff to not say good morning at the reception they ignore that you are even stood in front of them and after a minute say you have been checked out.
The hotel and gardens Friendly staff Restaurant Peace and quiet
No air con in the executive room we had. It was a very warm day and night.
Located in a small park away from the street. Traditional building, modernized. Perfect room service at dinner-time. One of the very best breakfasts during our round-trip.
Lovely hotel, lovely room, lovely staff, nice spa and awesome breakfast
The 7AM fire alarm was a bummer but the staff dealt with it quickly, efficiently and calmly and we were back in bed before long!
Too short a stay as arrived at 1am and had to leave by 11am
Relaxing atmosphere comfortable room
Too small a bar fly area
Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfasts, and elegant surroundings. Special thanks to Anna on Reception for all her help.
Excellent breakfast and dining. Very lovely surroundings.
It was very warm, so an option of a blanket rather than a duvet would have been good. Air conditioning would have been even better. Matress could have been more comfortable.
Hotel setting in beautiful location. Main hotel and restaurant is cosy and immaculate. Friendly staff.
Fixtures and fittings and general condition of room - wobbly taps, mould above shower, shower head broken, window fittings loose, cracked tiles etc...
Food was very good, facilities and ambience also very good
Paying £9.25 for tea for 2 people ouch!
The building we stayed in had dirty torn carpets throughout the corridors, and the carpet in our room was filthy. The bed linen was stained and dirty. The pillows were uncomfortable. The room had a skylight over the bed with no blind, so curtains were a waste of time
Nice location and surrounds. Close to villages if you needed something and not too far into Edinburgh for a day trip.
Room service was expensive . £5 per person to deliver a tray to your room is too much.
the food was v good, very comfortable, leisure ,swimming v good.receptionist very helpfull.
attention to detail, not enough milk, coffee, only 1 biscuit for 2 people for 3 mornings, ftuit was not replaced once it was all eaten.some of the bar staff not that welcoming.
