Interesting location, close to ferry terminal. Comfortable bed, good breakfast. Friendly staff. More a holiday location than business location though.

Shower poor, room quite chilly even with radiator on, but then this was in February on Orkney. Didn't take credit card which made it rather awkward for me (who goes round with lots of cash in today's world). In this day and age that seems a little archaic and if it continues needs to be made much clearer on the booking form.

located next to the ferry to Lyness, ideal for a visit to the Scapa Flow museum. Large room, comfortable enough. Substantial but expensive breakfast. Knowledgable and garrulous owner/manager. Surroundings rather bare. Restaurant not operating while we were there

It had very good facilities it was clean and had everything you required or if not it would be supplied.

No signal on my both of our mobile phones but we did not let it bother us and Houton Bay Lodge could do nothing about that.

Linda and Alfie are lovely hosts friendly and helpful. The hotel is central to Skara Brae and other fantastic sites. Houton Bay ferry to the isle of Hoy is within walking distance.

Closest shops are some kilometers away in Stromness, the only dining opportunity is The Noust in the village of Orphir about 5km where the food is reasonably priced and good quality especially the Beef in Yorkshire (yum).

The owner managers went out of their way to be professional in making our stay most enjoyable. The food was outstanding and all services memorable. They aided us in suggestions as to the island sights. We highly recommend this hotel as part of a Orkney Island adventure. And have Linda and Alfie direct you to the new archeology digs reported to be 5000 years old. These folks were one of our highlights of the trip!

Family run hotel, very friendly staff and everything you need for a comfortable stay, especially the lovely glass of sherry left in your room. Breakfast is lovely & the room was clean, large and comfortable. Highly recommended.

No complaints but it would have been nice to have breakfast served later at the weekend.

Wonderful staff, friendly and knowledgeable. I only mark the location as "good" rather than excellent, as a car is fairly necessary considering the public transport on the island. It is only 8 miles or so from Kirkwall, but it's a very rural area. However, very close to most tourist attractions like the standing stones, etc. Small fridge in the room was great for some self-catering, along with a kettle and tea/coffee. We were very kindly given a large family room since we were staying for several nights, which was great. All in all, lovely stay.

Everything was perfect. Good staff, good service, good location. Tried to have a rest from hustle and bustle of big cities - this place is perfect for it.

Location is very hard to reach without a car. Whatever, it will be hard to explore the island without the car

All'accettazione non avevano la nostra prenotazione: pur essendo molto gentili ci hanno spaventato perchè non avevano idea del nostro arrivo. Purtroppo capita spesso in scozia che non abbiano la tua prenotazione, bisogna stampare tutto ed insistere; non ho capito se sono in buona fede?! Inoltre essendoci poche strutture nel nulla (bellissimo!) bisogna fare attenzione ad avere le prenotazioni corrette ed ai supplementi precisare sempre l'età dei ragazzi/bimbi, a noi sono capitati lettini da neonati con due bambine alte 1,70! che comunque dormono con I genitori. Attenzione anche ai moscerini in questa zona

Il pagamento in cash piuttosto esagerato in rapporto alla qualità dell'ambiente.

Auf unserer Motorradtour besuchten wir die Orkneys und verbrachten2 Nächte im Houton Bay Lodge. Das Hotel im Bungalow-Stil ist in einer Bucht sehr schön und ruhig gelegen, ganz in der Nähe der Fähre zur Insel Hoy. Von Stromness aus ist man in 20 Minuten dort. Das Zimmer war einfach, aber sauber und mit allem Nötigen ausgestattet. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen, obwohl wir recht spät Abends ankamen. Wir würden wieder in diesem Hotel übernachten.

Ein Nachteil der Lodge ist das fehlende Restaurant für Nachtessen. Dafür muss man Abends nochmals ins Auto bzw. aufs Motorrad steigen, da in Fussdistanz kein Restaurant zu finden ist. Allerdings sind die Distanzen zu den umliegenden Dörfern auch nicht so gross. Am meisten gestört hatte uns, dass wir erst bei der Abreise erfahren haben, dass man nur bar bezahlen kann, zumal kein Bancomat um die Ecke verfügbar ist. Wir hatten zum Glück genügend Bargeld dabei. Das Hotel sollte jedoch die Gäste bei Ankunft aktiv darauf aufmerksam machen. Wir sind der Meinung, dass eine Bezahlmöglichkeit mit Karte heutzutage zum Standard gehören sollte.

レンタカーでドライブする人以外使えない場所にあります。 泊まった部屋はシャワーだけで、最近多い電気の瞬間湯沸かし器です。 湯量は、とても少なく、シャワーカーテンが短く、どしても外に跳ね出します。 食事は、必ず別料金フルブレックファーストで、９ポンドです。 内容は普通です、シリアル、ヨーグルト、フルーツ等以下一般的なメニューでした。

Sink was in the bedroom & not in the ensuite.

The biggest bed I`ve ever slept in, pleasant and friendly staff, comfortable room it was good to be able to relax in comfort, great location, superb breakfast, I wish we could have stayed longer.

Having been given a key to the property on arrival, it gave us the freedom to come and go as we pleased without having to worry about returning by a certain time.

so far away from everything. You need a car. Not close to any amenities. they do not accept credit card cash only,that is not convenient AT ALL. no cooking facilities and no meals offered.
