Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.
Score from 992 reviews Very good
Set in quaint gardens, The Victoria Hotel offers traditional home-cooked food and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is a 15-minute walk from Canterbury centre, and just under a mile from Canterbury Cathedral.

A short walk from Canterbury city centre and its world-famous Cathedral, this privately-owned hotel is set within a Victorian townhouse, amid 2 acres of well-maintained grounds.
Score from 373 reviews Very good
Less than 3 miles from the historic centre of Canterbury, this luxury B&B enjoys a rural setting within its own oak woodland.
Score from 299 reviews Superb
the scenery, the conventional character and modern dancing hall
WiFi was FOC and signal was excellent throughout the hotel. On the whole, the food was very good, especially the English breakfast. Staff very helpful. Will definitely try and stay here again!!
First time but surely not the last... very pleasant and calm manoir. Excellent restaurant. Ideal for a short stay... avoid if you look for modern style :)
Bathroom facilities a bit noisy
A very cosy and comfortable hotel. Near to Canterbury, our intended visit. The staff were very helpful, the room was spacious, the bed huge and comfortable. The main plus was the food - fabulous cooked breakfast and the different choice of menu each evening, though limited, was superb. A very relaxing stay.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. Room in the old part of the hotel was very spacious, included a fridge. The whole stay was very comfortable and I would recommend anyone visiting Canterbury to stay there,
Part of the restaurant felt slightly bleak - stark white walls and overhead lighting. But this is a very minor complaint as the food was excellent.
Excellent hotel and very good value!
This the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel and as always it makes for a great weekend break.Staff are helpful, food good and location at just outside Canterbury is ideal. We will be back!!
Wifi, Food, Staff
Short bed, noisy room floor, No buffet breakfast, Showering in the bathtub.
The property was lovely from the outside and was quiet.
Upon arrival I checked it, but was given no information about wi fi or breakfast. I asked the porter. The heating in the bathroom didn't work, and overall the room etc was rather tatty. Breakfast was tasty, but I got poached egg instead of fried, and service was initially very slow. When I left, no one was at reception, so I just left my key on the side. Overall, fine -- but doesn't fit the grand facade!
The heating did not work in the room but when this was brought to the attention of the staff, an electric radiator was soon provided and then the central heating was fixed. Really friendly and helpful staff.
Noise until midnight
Was told we had to stay in our room as there was a wedding !! Wifi signal was rubbish
had an anmazing stay at this lovely hotel. the staff are fantastic. Nothing too much trouble at all. The breakfast was the best i have had. Our room was lovely with lots of tea, coffee etc. fantastic stay
room, food, staff very pleasant room though compact was very comfortable and had good sized desk Nice old worldy dining room
Superbly comfortable bed after a long journey. Staff helpful. Location Lovrly and quiet.
Attentive staff Value for money Good food
Nothing stood out
Heating in room wasn't working and overseas staff had no idea how to fix. Place had no real character.
Room too hot
beautiful hotel lovely room very friendly staff
my food was just average although my husband really liked his
Staff were very friendly and helpful. I can't remember the last time I was escorted to my room and offered help with my bags.
Food great! Staff helpful. Nice gardens.
Other guests a bit noisy - same last time we stayed but still worth it.
Good location and helpful staff
Fake beams in bedroom. Remains of fake 'tester' around bed and hanging from the ceiling. WiFi that didn't work smoothly.
Bed was comfy, staff are very friendly and good location without being right in the centre of town
everything was great - we loved the layout of the building, our room was lovely, the location was very near to city centre. breakfast was really good and the staff were wonderful. Would definitely go back
i do not have any negatives about my stay!
Friendly & welcoming staff. Good food at dinner - imaginative menu, good cooking, nicely presented. Very nice cooked breakfast (though breakfast cereals were uninspiring). Our order for afternoon tea was clearly unexpected (though the hotel brochure offered it), but the kitchen did manage to produce some beautifully presented scones (no cream, though) Interesting old building.
Bed had a protruding spring - very uncomfortable & kept me awake. At dinner, our first course was served promptly, but we then had to wait 30 minutes for our main course while other tables were served ahead of us. (We received apologies but no explanation.) I complained about both issues when I checked out but the staff clearly had no authority to offer any recompense. Everything was shabby - the hotel badly needs updating. Ceiling light in bedroom had a constant hum, the washbasin drain was almost blocked, the toilet flush only worked intermittently, and the bathroom was poorly lit (shaving was perilous!). Wall lights in corridors badly placed & too low (easy to hit your head on some - dangerously sharp - edges). Lighting in restaurant unwelcoming and lounge cold, gloomy & unheated at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Beware low headroom in the old part of the building (some rooms have doors barely 5ft 6in high). We expected a country house but it was next door to a small industrial estate. Seriously overpriced for the quality.
