Facilities in the room were very good, clean and comfortable. I liked the hotel appearance, grounds and decor. The breakfast was good also, apart from the coffee which was terrible. The staff were courteous. The room rate was good. The first impression on arrival was not good or welcoming, seemingly only one room booked instead of the two paid for. We had to send back our main course at the evening meal, as our meats were bloody and undercooked. The duck breast was still rubbery after slight further cooking and my mother still could not cut it up. I cut it up for her but it did not taste good so had to leave it uneaten. It was very disappointing as I chose the hotel based upon it's good cuisine claims and recommendation. We were asked to move from the restaurant to the bar before we had finished our wine. This was at around 9.15pm, our table was booked for 8pm. The place had no atmosphere, felt rather dead. It was a very impersonal experience. |

When we reported a problem with the shower it was dealt with promptly and a new room offered. Staff were very helpful.Lovely setting Breakfast was slow and basic. Shower pressure was not good nor was the water hot in the first room we were allocated. Some parts of the hotel looked tired and there were minor issues with the room that couldeasily be corrected. |

Friendly and helpful staff. Good-looking and historic hotel building. Plenty of car parking. Well located for Canterbury and the rest of east Kent. |

We liked staying here, but we also had the best room in the house (#12). Definately a rural location about two miles from the city. It was nice to have a bathroom larger than a closet. The hotel had about five wifi routers set up, but they did not work in our room. We had to bring the laptop to the sitting area near the stairs. The floors are a bit creaky. |

Nice old building reasonable well improved. An average experience when it has the potential to be very good. Food was not expensive but not much choice available and was only very average. The recent investmant at the hotel still has not brought out the best features of the lovely old building. |

Although we arrived early for our check-in, the staff were both helpful and flexible making every effort to accommodate our needs. Furthermore, all of the staff were courteous and friendly throughout our stay. Finally, the menu, albeit limited, was well cooked, well presented and good value. Set in its own grounds, the hotel is a little way (3km) out of Canterbury - not a problem if you have transport, but do not think it is in or very close to the town. |

Interesting old building, beautiful garden, quiet location. Room was spacious, with very good bed. Bathroom facilities may be a little bit out of date, but who cares... Breakfast was far from tasty; coffee almost undrinkable (but you don't visit England for their kitchen). |

Hotel setting and grounds. No attention to detail eg rooms looked shabby, curtains poor, window panes covered in mildew and mould. Staff doing basics and not attentive to clients needs. Standards and quality deteriorated since my last stay and I will not be staying again. |
