On the banks of the River Stour, just 8 miles outside Canterbury, The Grove Ferry Inn offers high-quality accommodation in Kent.

A delightful old pub close to the center of the city and its many tourist attractions. The ruins of the ancient water mill (hence Miller's Arms) on the River Stour remain alongside the pub.

Excellent staff and good meals
At times not enough staff to cope with guests requiring service
Very friendly staff who arranged table for 10 of us.Excellent food the family really enjoyed my birthday get together.Hope to come back.
Location: Very close to Canterbury on the route to P&Ride, yet still in the country. Room: Comfortable, clean, and of reasonable size. Breakfast: a good choice and well-cooked, and al-fresco dining in the summer! Evening meal: very good food. Parking: free. Staff: Friendly, helpful and efficient.
Noise: Our room was on the road side, where the marquee was situated. Overnight preparations disturbed our sleep as the weather was warm and the window open. Restaurant: beware of the ramp that covers only the central part of the steps between the two rooms. Going off the side could cause a fall for the unwary.
Staff were very helpful, especially Charlotte. Food quality and value were excellent both for breakfast and dinners.
Room 9 was a bit noisy - next to the boiler room? Sounds of running water late evening and morning.
We stayed for one night on the way to france and had a very enjoyable stay with nothing too much trouble for the staff as my partner was suffering from a chest infection and they helped me locate a chemist and were most concerned. The meal in the evening was good but the breakfast marvelous one of the best we have had and being a coeliac they even had bread.
We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it is such a shame that some people find such minor things to moan about. It is a beautiful old building in the country and people moan about spiders so silly but the staff dealt with the situation so well we will definitely be coming back thank you everyone for a fantastic time
The staff were extremely helpful and nice, the room was lovely and the grounds and hotel excellent! Loved our stay and will definitely come again
Location, parking space, overall quality and cleanliness
The fumes from the kitchen are not properly evacuated and entered our open window (room 14) straight away. This really puts us off. Too bad for an otherwise excellent hotel.
Caring and helpful staff. Excellent food. All in all a very pleasant three night stay.
A small table lamp would have been helpful on the desk area and a hook behind the bathroom door. BUT neither of these things would deter us from visiting Howfield Manor Hotel again!
the welcome friendliness of Staff breakfast
Location and excellent staff attention
We thought the Dinner Menu needs a few more items to choose from, like Fillet and Ribeye steak as we found the Sirlon steak a bit chewy side !!
everything especially the staff
nothing not to like
Restaurant last orders were at 8.30pm
Staff very helpful Quality evening meal
Very handy for an overnight stay en route to Dover ferries. Good breakfast and very pleasant staff. Sorry we didn't have more time to relax and enjoy the place.
Can,t not fault the staff, the hotel was very clean, the food was 5*
Wifi was not very good
Great location just outside of Canterbury. Characterful property with pleasant grounds.
Very few staff on rota, made it hard to get hold of anyone at reception or bar, but they were exceptionally helpful when eventually you found someone (except couple of jobs-worths in the kitchen who just ignored the bell).
Nice surroundings. Loved the breakfast room with the old well in the middle of the floor. Can't comment on the restaurant, as we didn't use it.
Although wifi is available, we could not use it in our room. We had to sit in a public area in the more central area of the hotel to pick up the signal.
Large room with sofa and a fridge too. Fresh milk to go with tea and teapot to make a proper cup of tea on arrival. Attentive and courteous staff. Wonderful evening meal. super-king size bed. excellent breakfast.
Umm .... the melon had run out just after 9am breakfast. Fruit was available, but a prepared fruit salad would have been nice. The bacon was slightly over-cooked.
Friendly welcome when we arrived. Clean comfortable rooms. We ate at the hotel, starting off outside on the patio, then beating a retreat inside when the summer weather broke into an almighty thunderstorm. The staff coped really well with this unexpected deluge of indoor guests and reorganised our dining very quickly.
* Staff were very attentive * Food in the restaurant was well presented, tasty and the portion sizes were just right
Location was good. Service excellent.
Toilet was not working properly.
Really old building but beautifully maintained food and staff were top notch
Job to find anything we didn't like even the weather was kind to us. Well done
I'm glad to have spent a night in Howfield Manor. The staffs are welcoming and helpful. The hotel sits in the quiet suburb with big garden and only 2.5 miles away from the canterbury city centre, hence getting around is easy. They also offered brilliant cooked and continental breakfast which is inclusive in the room rate. Wish they would have spa facilities!
friendly staff nice country house hotel feel close to Canterbury
