Food great! Staff helpful. Nice gardens.
Other guests a bit noisy - same last time we stayed but still worth it.
Good location and helpful staff
Fake beams in bedroom. Remains of fake 'tester' around bed and hanging from the ceiling. WiFi that didn't work smoothly.
Bed was comfy, staff are very friendly and good location without being right in the centre of town
everything was great - we loved the layout of the building, our room was lovely, the location was very near to city centre. breakfast was really good and the staff were wonderful. Would definitely go back
i do not have any negatives about my stay!
Friendly & welcoming staff. Good food at dinner - imaginative menu, good cooking, nicely presented. Very nice cooked breakfast (though breakfast cereals were uninspiring). Our order for afternoon tea was clearly unexpected (though the hotel brochure offered it), but the kitchen did manage to produce some beautifully presented scones (no cream, though) Interesting old building.
Bed had a protruding spring - very uncomfortable & kept me awake. At dinner, our first course was served promptly, but we then had to wait 30 minutes for our main course while other tables were served ahead of us. (We received apologies but no explanation.) I complained about both issues when I checked out but the staff clearly had no authority to offer any recompense. Everything was shabby - the hotel badly needs updating. Ceiling light in bedroom had a constant hum, the washbasin drain was almost blocked, the toilet flush only worked intermittently, and the bathroom was poorly lit (shaving was perilous!). Wall lights in corridors badly placed & too low (easy to hit your head on some - dangerously sharp - edges). Lighting in restaurant unwelcoming and lounge cold, gloomy & unheated at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Beware low headroom in the old part of the building (some rooms have doors barely 5ft 6in high). We expected a country house but it was next door to a small industrial estate. Seriously overpriced for the quality.
An enjoyable stay. Staff were helpful and efficient. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel both especially the, cooked to order, breakfast were delicious. Of you like large hotel chains where all the rooms are alike then this interestingly quirky historical building is not for you but we loved it.
A bit far away from Canterbury so we did need the car
The friendliness of the staff. They couldn't do enough for you. Nothing was too much trouble.
There was nothing wrong with the room but it was extremely warm at night which made sleeping quite difficult. We had to have the windows open but even then it was still very warm. There was no thermostat control.
location, staff, value for money
hard bed and pillows
Bathroom & Shower Comfortable Bed Free wifi Excellent breakfast
Handy location right next to the A28, just a few minutes' drive from Canterbury. Despite being so close to the road, there's no noise inside. Well insulated, warm room. Spacious, and with everything a hotel guest could need, from a well appointed bathroom with shower over bath to the free toiletries and shower caps, and in the room from a safe, iron, ironing board and trouser press to a larger than normal flatscreen tv with a lot of channels, large desk, comfortable desk chair, coffee table and armchair, comfortable bed, frig, hairdryer and alarm clock. Fast and free wifi. Friendly and helpful staff. Homely feel. Nice garden and patio, would be nice in spring and summer.
Decor slightly dated, but somehow it seemed appropriate for this kind of hotel. Dinner menu not enough vegetarian options, so we had dinner elsewhere.
Staff and food
poor radio connection kept cutting out whilst having dinner.
everyone was very helpful would visit again
A comfortable hotel in a beautiful setting. Close (but not too close) to Canterbury, perfect for exploring the area. The room was clean and comfortable, the shower was hot and powerful. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
We had a long wait for our dinner on both evenings but when they did eventually arrive the meals were worth the wait!
The food, staff and location were excellent
Being woken at 5am by a breakfast meeting group. They were very noisy until they left just before 9am.
Late, late booking after being let down by our planned accommodation, but what a delightful find. Lovely setting with a beautiful four-poster room. Excellent value for money and fantastic staff, very accommodating. Can't wait to return
Wifi was a little hit and miss but it really wasn't a problem as I wasn't supposed to be checking work emails anyway
Our Room - No 1, was lovely. The bed is extremely large and comfortable. Staff were pleasant. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
The bar area could do with a "make over".
The breakfast was perfect, the staff was really friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and clean, the location was perfect for tired people wishing to find nice hotel not far from Dover on the was to London
Can't think of anything
We spent three very relaxing days in pleasant surroundings, and the food was excellent. Very handy for Canterbury and surrounding areas.
Quiet and easy to reach. We like the building and the garden. Price was reasonable when we there.
Lovely room, lovely staff, lovely food. What more can I say
Me and my partner enjoyed every minute of our stay! The staff was very friendly and nice, the breakfast was exquisite, the room was absolutely fantastic. I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent breakfast - very good choices. general setting very peaceful, lots of mature trees in grounds and close to surfaced riverside walk into Canterbury.
Too hot for good sleep. Toilet system in room needed attention.
Out of town location yet close enough to provide easy access and avoid rush hour traffic
Breakfast room was so quiet it lacked any atmosphere
Beautiful building, very old and rustic inside. Superior double room was very spacious and super comfortable. Convenient location, only a couple miles drive to Canterbury city centre. Breakfast included was of a very good quality + staff were very good.
Toilet was very temperamental, it would only flush properly after a good amount of hours even though the bowl was filling up fine.
staff were brilliant and friendly. food was brilliant much better quality than i was expecting.
