On arrival we went to reception to check in, no one was was to be found.
On ringing of bell, still no one. After seeking out a member of staff he
politely told us someone would be with us shortly which they were. No
problem with key handover and were given relevant information regards to
our stay. The purpose of our stay was a friends wedding, so once checked
in we tried to book a taxi to the wedding reception. There was no signal
on either of our mobiles so I asked if they had a payphone in the pub, I
was quickly laughed at and informed that nobody has payphones any more
and I was to use the phone in our room. Ok. So I go back over to our
room and search high and low (I even looked in the bathroom!) No phone.
Back over to the pub I go and inform the owner (who has been dealing
with us since check in) that there is no phone in the room. He
begrudgingly allows me to use the reception phone to try and book a
taxi. A word of advice.....if you require a taxi in this area you've
got no chance unless pre-booked. We eventually decide to drive to the
wedding reception ourselves and leave the car there over night to
collect in the morning. With regards to the room where do I
start.....£120 Is a joke. It was tired and dated, stains on the towels,
room had a very unpleasant odour, mould in the bathroom, dirty windows,
hole in the door that had just been covered up by mdf badly! The noise
from rooms upstairs woke us up in the morning, you could hear everything
that was going on in all bedrooms upstairs, people up and down stairs!
The only positive thing I can say about this place was a decent pint of
real ale and the lady that served breakfast was great otherwise I would
avoid this place at all costs.
Nice pint of real ale, breakfast was ok with good service.
