The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful in helping us to locate things in the city. Rooms were very comfortable and breakfast was delicious! If it had been a warmer day, air conditioning would have been nice. There is no food available in the evening, and we had a very difficult time finding anywhere within walking distance to eat (other than pizza or other take-away meals).

We had chosen a superior room so it had a very big bed. Very comfortable with ironing board and iron, tea and coffee and hairdryer. Plenty of mirrors and lights and a lovely big walk in shower. We were very comfortable. The breakfast was fine and as we ordered it the night before, stating at what time we would be ready, it was very good and fresh. Terry, the owner was very friendly and he served us at the bar. Food was not offered in the evening but suggestions were made as to where we could eat.

We stayed here for just one night on our way up to Edinburgh, taking the scenic route using a and b roads . . . as this is a trip we do often, normally using the m6 and m74, we never see the beautiful scenery in this part of the country. Huntingdon House is an imposing building at the top of a sloping driveway, it does not have a good outlook thanks to commercial development but it is well located just a few minutes walk from the town centre and very close to the station. We were warmly greeted by the owner Lynne who showed us to our room (5), which was a reasonable size with a very good sized bathroom - BIG shower! The bed was huge and very comfortable, We slept well, the hotel was quiet - no banging doors or corridor parties here! We were advised by Lynne to walk into town for dinner, which we did, but it was a little late and by the time we found somewhere we liked the kitchen had just closed . . at 9pm! We eventually found an Indian restaurant which was fine (I have reviewed this separately). A Thursday evening in Dumfries is not a 'not to be missed' experience - dare I say desert?! When we returned to the hotel Terry, the other half of the owner partnership, was in the bar doing what a good host does. We passed a very pleasant half an hour or so having a drink with Terry and another guest, who also knew the area well. We were given lots of helpful advice on what to see in the area and also the best route to use to continue our trek to Edinburgh. In the morning the breakfast was excellent and well presented. You choose your breakfast items from a list, and the time you want it serving, the night before which ensures it is freshly cooked. We left having thoroughly enjoyed our stay and following another chat with Lynne who was preparing to paint fences!! A hotelier's work is never done they say . . . !!

Clean, quiet, comfortable, friendly. What's not to like? We enjoyed our overnight stay (for a family bereavement). Nice comfy bar to sit in and only 5 minutes walk to Dumfries centre where there is a range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Would definitely recommend to anyone of any age. Mine host very obliging and friendly.

The house is beautiful & is in a great location. Dumfries City Centre is just a few minutes walking distance. Our room was comfortable & had all the amenities needed; hairdryer, toiletries, coffee/tea making station and tv. Breakfast is great, you fill out your card the night before with what you want for breakfast & what time you want it, making it very convenient. The best thing about this place is the owners, Terry & Lynn. We were welcomed by Lynn who was very sweet & gave us a great map of the city & some great tips on where to go. We met Terry later that night & what a great guy he is! He made us feel very welcome. They have a bar/lounge area, so we had a pint & chatted with Terry & 2 other guests & that was quite enjoyable. Terry was very helpful in drawing us a detailed map for where we wanted to go and giving us tips on other places/drives to do. All in all, a great experience! So happy we stayed here for 2 nights, wish it could have been longer:)

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms were very clean and catered for your every need. The extra personal touches were fantastic. Wi-Fi great and easy to use. Service from the owners goes way beyond the call of duty. They are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was great. Ordering it the night before made it a far better experience. Would highly reccomend to family and friends. Will make a point of staying here again if we are in the area. The only bad point is that we were only here one night. Wished our stay had been longer. Not one single thing! It was fantastic.

The fact that hotel is within walking distance of town means shops etc are easily accessible. We were only there for a very short visit, but the hotel experience was first class. The room was very comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was served at time we asked for and was very good. If visiting area on another occasion would definitely use and have already recommended to friends and relatives.
